Odd, I remember actually seeing him play almost the exact same role with my own eyes at Goodison a few years back. He was always better when he was playing AM/pushing up, but lots of people mistakenly saw him as a DM because of his strength and lack of fine ball control.

-Edit-
Yep, looked it up. He played the overwhelming majority of his last season for Everton as a Striker/Am.

At this moment I think it would be better for Kompany to play, he's been in pretty bad form lately.

Premier League may not suit Di Maria, but I think it's too early to tell, he's not exactly been Falcao bad, but not as good as you'd expect of a player of that quality admittedly (not disregarding the money outlay either).

But we have to bare in mind that he will probably improve in the second season as he has had to put up with language barrier, personal issues and adapting to the new country/league in general.

Finally I will say he has created 47 chances (more than any United player) and 10 assists. Not giving him another season would be stupid.

I agree.
A knee jerk reaction would be silly in this situation.

Yeah I would definitely keep him for sure. If anything add, to that quality if we are serious about the title, and Europe should we qualify

I still don't get all the hate aimed at di Maria. He's been bad at times, sure, but so have most others at one point of time or the other. It's a new league with a different style of play, and taking the problems he's had off the season into account, he's had an excellent season from what I see.

Sure, his final ball is lacking at times, and misplaces passes a bit too much for my liking, but when he's on the pitch, he tries to make things happen. That is vital. He brings the dynamism required. Now, if you assume that he'll improve on his problems (if LvG can make Young brilliant, I won't even question di Maria), you'll find that we'll have an unbelievable player in our hands.

The problem was, for that price, people expected di Maria to virtually carry the team forward. That cannot happen, and hence all the hate. He's got 10 assists despite having a rather bad second-half season, and is coming dangerously close to equaling Beckham's record. Anyone thinking of offloading him is smoking high.

Not many clubs can afford to have two 50m pound signings coming of the bench :^)

Why? We are not selling club. Players like Di Maria wont be available every year.
im not saying sell him i would love him to start playing like he did last season and i know he will given time but if we could get back what we paid then i WOULD THINK ABOUT IT im only saying think about it thats all

On a possible return for Angel Di Maria, van Gaal added: "Not only Angel [is pushing for a place], but every player who is training in the first squad are pushing because they want to do their utmost. I played 11 vs 11 today and the team in white was very good - the white team was not the basic line-up, so they are pushing always and I like that. I said that to all of them, that I like the fighting spirit of every one of them."
