The Manchester United Thread

Apparently West Brom have agree'd a fee for Evans. £8mil. £6m upfront with £2m add-ons.

I think McNair was above Evans in the pecking order anyway but having Evans out of the way certainly wont harm his chances.

But in a scenario were the daley blind experiment fails and smallings gets injured, do you mean we have to rely on jones and mcnair?

I dont see the point of buying another centrehalf unless you know for sure it will be a top class cb e.g ramos or otamendi. Buying a backup centrehalf will just add to the wage bill and block a young players chance.

Have they still got anichebe and ideye? obviously wilson will get games if they leave or one does. Tough for young strikers going out on loan these days especially to prem sides as many don't play with two up top and i can't see wilson leading the line for a prem side yet.

Yup - plus the mint fresh RONDON.

lol wage bill, like a fan should give a **** about that and the glazers have made and saved enough money this summer.

See, apart from the odd pseudo knowledge that people seem to have about players, I don't think we get any of that here any more. Outside of Mike desperately trying to get people into more involved discussions, it's all basically "this is good, this is bad, I'm going to overreact to some silly statement and drag it out into a 5 page argument now." A few years ago I would have expected to see people here discussing how Fabregas' lack of positional discipline often gives Matic too much ground to cover and leaves Chelsea's fullbacks exposed if they choose to go forward, and how that tends to leave Hazard isolated on the left and the right in a state of vulnerability with Brana bombing up the pitch. Instead people seem scared to actually develop an opinion deeper than Ozil=lazy, Sanchez=good, where's our DM Wenger?

I know right, it's almost as if i want there to be some kind of rational discussion. If anyone else wants the mindless ****, they can alsways go to redcafe or read the sun. Only in football is it a bad thing to actually try and articulate meaningful thoughts, seriously embarrassing.

Enough with your common sense observations or I'll have to take action :P

You guys are being too hard on yourself. People resort to faking expertise because the game has gotten so much more complex over last 20 years.

Back in a day all you had to do is know what 4-4-2 was, and you were resident football expert around the block. Winger was a winger, striker was a striker, and goalkeepers were glued to their line for entirety of the game.

Now the game went into opposite extremes with Benitezes of the world exclusively doing like-for-like subs to mantain the formation, and Pep's of the world playing formations that nobody can even figure out. Winger can be inside forward, outside forward, false winger and whatever Mueller is doing. Frodo The Hobbit can become a centerback because he is left-footed and for some ******* reasons that's important. Goalkeepers are actually doing the distribution. Strikers have more defensive duties than they have offensive ones.

Even the professional pundits are lost. Couple of weeks ago I watched Carragher in a segment with Roberto Martinez, and Carragher was so out of his depth it was painful to watch. And this is a guy who together with Neville raised punditry to a completely new level.

What chance does an average fan have.

In one more scenario, Smalling injured, Blind experiment failed, Jones injured, Rojo with visa issues, McNair suddenly coming to senses and saying **** I don't want to play as CB, Carrick losing his balls, Fellaini going bald.....

We might play Van Gaal as CB.

I'd rather play Giggs than Van Gaal. Van Gaal is very injury prone...

Blackett to Celtic on loan and Evans to WBA only leaves Smalling, Jones, rojo and McNair with blind also as cover and Carrick as an extreme. So does that mean a defender may be coming in? Probably end up with vlaar on a free lol, not that I'd complain, he could do a job. Who else is there? Unless he's looking at stepping up another youngster if another **** storm of injuries happens

Might actually sign Garay for real, although i wouldn't mind that monaco lad but it seems he is off to valencia i think.

Either penny pinching glazernomics stopped us from getting otamendi or LVG genuinely didn't want him.

I'd actually like to sign Garay as he can do a job, and it would be one less transfer rumour a year :p So we'd only be linked to Snijder, Bale and Ronnie haah

Can't really go wrong with Argentinian defenders.

They and Italy truly do produce the best ones going.
