Because you don't sign all the players you scout.

Apparently plan was to sign him next summer but to avoid competition we are moving in for him this summer.
 
36m is an absolutely ridiculous amount, I am sorry but there are so many players you could have got instead, maybe not right now but earlier in the window rather than waiting till today. Bad timing by United really whichever way you look at it.

Actually the real reason we moved for him now is because they got knocked out of the Champions League, so we then had the opportunity to take a chance and get him. Before that/earlier in the window the opportunity wasn't even there that's why approaches by Chelsea and Tottenham were knocked back before.

That was a ridiculous rumour that just got laughed out. We just signed Pedro and still had Cuadrado/Moses on the books plus three very competent strikers. Why would we need to splash the $$$ on Martial

Which ones? There is Pedro in that position, and thats about it. Perhaps Gotze once Costa had arrived.

I have little doubt there's no validity in it if truth be told.

Even Gotze was impossible for us when we signed Schweinsteiger, they wouldn't sell us any other.

Only other player I can think that we could of gone for is Isco because he's struggling at the moment to get a first-team spot. Apart from that can't think of anyone real obvious apart from Pedro and maybe Douglas Costa. But Bayern at this moment in time are probably more attractive than us to certain players like him.

There aren't that many out there. And yep, it took a couple of weeks for LVG to realize we need to score in this game and these weeks turned out to be a bit costly for us.

c'mon Mike when we are talking this amount of money anyone is possible, especially with United being practically zero spend. If you had moved earlier anything would be possible because United are one of those special clubs. What I am saying waiting the day before deadline is poor. And also all this talk about waiting for Monaco to go out of the Champions League what happened if they stayed in then?
