Remember when people said we should have sold him for peanuts in July?

Now we have few blokes here who ended up with egg on their faces. Saying we should have signed for peanuts and how De Gea will leave on free next season..

Fantastic news for United.

Wonder how Scouse will spin this and put some negative light on it

Fortunate? ManUtd stuck to their demands which Madrid didn't agree until last day, they risked to lose De Gea for free and ultimately he signed new deal. You can type "Lucky" 100 times that doesn't change anything about how ManUtd rejected all the silly offers from Madrid.

I'm sure some will try. But there is no way this isnt excellent news for all concerned; United DDG and Mendes.

United had the same stance from the start: dont really want to sell, but the offer was near world record fee and Navas. They didn't budge on that and Madrid only tried to "meet" it at five minutes to midnight

Indeed. I am actually astounded as to how people can come out gloating when it was only by sheer luck that events played out as they did. Now watch people worship De Gea after claiming all summer how they had 'lost respect for him etc etc

Yeah, i presume its only a slight amendment to the offer that was on the table already, but surely there has to be a clause in this near the £40mil+ mark now.

I'd be very suprised if there wasn't. Either way it will cost Madrid a pretty penny now. Certainly a lot more than the £29m originally demanded

I think the negative aspect is that it reeks of Suarez mark II... Push for a move, doesn't materialise, signs a new contract and leaves the summer after for a bigger fee

United would obviously rather keep him, but losing him for a world record GK would go down well, especially a target is alreayd lined up (Leno is the obvious one). The speed at which it was signed is curious though

Yep, as I said on the previous page - United have played a blinder.

If he stays, fantastic. If he doesn't then you will now get a very high fee and suitable time to find a replacement

The speed at which he signs shows he's genuinely unsure about making the move to Madrid now. Not saying he will stay by any means, but the fact he's not set on it is big.
