The Manchester United Thread

The speed at which he signs shows he's genuinely unsure about making the move to Madrid now. Not saying he will stay by any means, but the fact he's not set on it is big.

It's either that, or the contract offered included an acceptable clause to leave next summer.. Who knows!

Spee at which he signed. hasnt this offer been on the table for a few months?

Oh look at all the "I told you so" from people who thought DDG shouldn't be sold.

So, all out of a sudden, sorting your goalkeeper situation before the season starts, is not critical for the club?

Yes he should've been sold and replacement should have been brought, as early as July. Through sheer stroke of luck the transfer didn't work out, and through another stroke of luck, Romero cost you only 2 goals instead of 8. That doesn't change anything. The club still handled this like complete amateurs, but evidently had more luck than brains.

There is some rampaant bollocks on this thread at times. Dont care because he's here and he's signed. Deal with it

Yep, as I said on the previous page - United have played a blinder.

If he stays, fantastic. If he doesn't then you will now get a very high fee and suitable time to find a replacement
Ultimately, thats more than United expected. Also shows up Madrid for not being as serious as they claim.

Some love to still point to United as the bad guys. Give it a rest. It's Madrid who should have been more proactive, not United.

I guess you must have Ferguson down a peg or two in your estimation then for the multiple times he tried hard to sign him. Along with Mourinho.

Ferguson also signed Bebe and Ferguson trying to sign him doesn't make him better CM than other 3.

Indeed. I am actually astounded as to how people can come out gloating when it was only by sheer luck that events played out as they did. Now watch people worship De Gea after claiming all summer how they had 'lost respect for him etc etc

lol.

I think the negative aspect is that it reeks of Suarez mark II... Push for a move, doesn't materialise, signs a new contract and leaves the summer after for a bigger fee

But at the end of the day United have a world class keeper for one year at the very least

Sort of agree but it's lot different from Suarez deal. De Gea had only 10 months on his contract and could have walked away but didn't.

I said many times I will respect him only if he signs contract and he did. At least he has more sense than lot of people here who thought it's ok to stab the club. I for one will cheer his every save and even if he leaves at least he gave us some bargaining power, something I told months back that I respect Suarez for.

Also few clowns always try to abuse and discredit Woody but he is making very good job.

And it is always by the same people.

Rhetorical after the Gerrard line?

Seriously man, there's no shame in admitting just what a top player he's been the Premiership era. The most influential player for his club side to never win the league IMHO. (Through no fault of his own.).

I doubt you'd get many that wouldn't unanimously agree he'd be in any all time PL XI.

You would get many including your Liverpool manager who didn't pick Gerrard in his all time PL 11.

Just because I say he is not as good as other 3 doesn't mean he is not a top player. You make lot of assumptions which is not my fault.

Gerrard was world class player and awesome behind the striker but he wasn't better than the 3 midfielders I mentioned.

He was 'World Class', but (always a but) wouldn't of gotten in ahead of the other three in an all time PL XI? Interesting distinction.

One can only presume he wore the wrong shade of red for your liking but as this is a subjective argument going nowhere I shall leave it at that.

There is not a chance you pick Gerrard at CM ahead of Keane, Vieira or Scholes.

You would if you wanted to make a balanced team ;)

Anyways, LVG presser was gold today.

Dude, do you even know what you are arguing? He was world class doesn't mean he will be in PL 11. Rooney was world class for years but that doesn't mean he will be in PL 11, same with so many world class players.

VDS was world class so is De Gea but they won't make PL 11 because great Dane was level above.

I will say it again, the shade of red is the only reason why you think he will be in PL 11.

DDG is possibly 6th on my list: Schmeichel, Seaman, VDS, Lehmann, Cech, DDG. And I'm probably missing keepers

Partner him with one of them (particularly the first 2) and you have the perfect combination.

No, because his positioning was horrific. There was a reason he was played as a 10 and performed at his best then. Scholes and Vieira is probably the best combination there. People forget how much ground peak Scholes covered.
