The Manchester United Thread

Who would you suggest to replace him now then?

I would have said Carlo but that's unlikely, not much choice really so it's tricky, keeping him until the end of the season and hope he drags us to 4th again is the clubs best option unless they do want Jose.

I like LVG but I love the club a whole lot more, it's time for him to go. We should be challenging for the title, instead it's turning into another battle to be in the top four, and that's not good enough.

He's planning on retiring in 2017, so I don't understand these "give him time to rebuild the squad'' people, he's had time and the squad has definitely been rebuilt. We should prioritise Ancelotti, but if his head has been turned by Munich then go for Mourinho, the football probably won't be much better but we'll definitely see an improvement in results.

Stoke is playing very good defence right now and for CHE u can never know what they can be now. Also games are on 26 and 28 dec. so very tight scheadule and wont be good with all the injury.

Haven't won in 6 games also and i can't see between now and next week LVG doing some miracle work and motivating them enough to scrape a win.

You people need to lay off Mountain Dew. Van Gaal is not getting fired because he's 5th in December. That's all.

Don't think i actually stated when i wanted him sacked, i just want him gone in general most likely at the end of the season and hope the club snatches 4th.

Although with the strong possibility of no wins in 8 on the cards, losing the fans at OT and maybe some players it's not looking good for him.

Keeping him for the next season is another matter. But this season, unless he's mathematically out of top 4 race or has huge fall out with the squad, he's staying till the end. Might as well just accept that and move on.

And lets not pretend that even after the season replacing Van Gaal won't be tricky.

Mourinho is not an option, he plays completely different style and you'd have to start rebuilding from scratch. Simeone, same problem, you have no personnel to play in his prefered style.

Pep has succeeded making transition to posession-based tactics in Bayern, but lets not forget that he had massive, massive advantage in quality of players available. There's no telling if he can pull it of in United with Fellaini and Carrick in the pivot.

Ancelotti is locked for Bayern job by the looks of it.

Who else is there, Rafa?

What the bayern chairman said about LVG after he sacked him back in 2011 seems pretty familiar tbh.

Yes Van Gaal does rub people up the wrong way when he leaves but he doesn't leave the club in total chaos behind him. In fact, he usually leaves it in a solid position

Good point on the football style but what if the players respond better to a Jose or Simeone style? who knows man it's all ifs and buts atm.

I think we can agree that with lots of youth in key positions and Mata still an important member, Jose is the last person you want around atm.

Mata's been poor lately, fairly sure he's not that fussed on LVG either.

Good, goooood. This will speed up contract negotiations with Pep.

I don't even know what's going on anymore. The attacking play has improved a lot - there's speed, there's plenty of direct passing not just sideways to the nearest guy, there's chances, but nothing goes in.
No...it really hasn't gotten better...we didn't create a single clear cut chance other than the smallings header and the goal

Last 4 games, 7 shots on target is just simply unacceptable. Whatever happens, if he stays, something needs to change because right now I don't even know where we're going.

37m wrongly spent by moyes imo at the time, but i do like Juan.
Yeah, no it really wasnt. Mata's been our most effective player by a mile since he arrived, in goals, assists and chances created. That was the only time he was available. and he proved his worth from the get go.

This has Chelsea all over it, the players are frustrated with LVG, and they are playing like it. Somethings got to give. LVG has to adapt or die at this point. Also United would be ******* idiots not to approach Pep

Van Gaal just needs to go back to basics and use the lineup that worked last season, with some minor adjustments.

As I see it, the biggest problem right now is that you have 2 first choice full backs as well as both backups injured. With Mata and Memphis playing on the side that's opposite to their dominant foot, this system relies on full backs to provide width. Every opponent these last 2 months packs the center of the field and forces you to either attack from wide position, where they know you lack attacking quality, or to play tippy-tappy sideways football and pray for a miracle.

Now Darmian is no master crosser, but he does go forward with every action to provide support and passing option, and that helps a lot. Young was doing that constantly this game too, even though its not his side, and there was constant danger on the right.

Blind on the left cannot really offer that because he lacks the pace to get back if something goes wrong. So, I would start using Young as first choice left back. In CB, get back to the Blind-Smaling parternship, it worked great, no point breaking that up. Darmian hopefully is back in Boxing Day.

Bench Rooney, he offers nothing. Use Fellaini as #10 - he's no Kaka, but he does offer the option to play long and switch up play, which is crucial since you have no pace or trickery to break up sides that sit deep. Memphis seems to be slowly starting clicking, so that should help too. He'll start banging goals eventually.

And yes, Mata needs to start. Every game. Even if he's ****, he's the only guy in this team who can create something out of nothing.

It's truly baffling how they let City become favourites tbh. And they also let Ancelloti slip through their grasp. Serious questions have to be asked of the executives at this point
