The Manchester United Thread

It was the initial fee that's still stunning.

£35 million down for a 19 year old with one full season under his belt. In France. That's over inflated however you cut it and then some.

I actually really like him and he may well develop into something that outweighs that. But there and then, that was a **** of a price to pay on potential.

Maybe so but since he has an ballon d'or clause in his contract it shows how much the scouts/clubs rate him and believe in him. He has already showed he has raw talent and has been one of our best players. Hopefully when he's given more creative freedom he will shine even more.

Same was said of Shaw, no one talks about his price anymore. Now it's now important it is that he gets fits for the Euros/United

Luke 'played around 20 games for United' Shaw?

Haha I know what you're trying to say but many don't bring it up as he's been forgotten recently. I'm sure he will turn out to be good value assuming he comes back well from his injury.

If not, his price would be talked about again.

I think he will be fine though.

Yeah I saw that but I didn't get how your reply was relevant to the point I made.

Ah, alright, sorry. Well, I just wanted to point out that with this signing Chelsea also wanted to make this move quicky avoiding to lose out on Pato.

Oh ok, got it now. Cheeky but well played.

I read your initial post wrongly :P

Little fear of that.

His is guys have hawked him round for months to no avail.

Shaw started this season off fantastically, we're a different team without him and I think it has been a big contribution to our downfall since losing him.

Such a sad injury to a player with so much potential and current ability above most already, really hope he comes back well.

Transfer-wise, I don't imagine it will make much difference who the manager is. The current preoccupation at Old Trafford is with trying to sign "superstars". So that means more scattergun bids for Ronaldo, Bale, Muller, etc in the hope that one of them comes off. There is another serious transfer target that I've found out about in the past 24 hours, but I think I'll wait to reveal that in the paper rather than in a webchat ...

That will be interested (this is from Oliver Kay)

****** hope not, why is the actual world would we splash the cash now on Ronaldo? I mean it makes literally zero sense. I don't care if he's still the best player in the world it doesn't make any long-term sense. He's 30 now so if we're lucky it till be 3 seasons in his prime and even that is debatable.

Honestly I hope we at least try to be a bit shreweder with our business rather than going gung-ho with the big buys because they don't often pay off. It's basically trying to be like Real Madrid galatico style and I don't like it, plus if you look at their track record they have spent fortunes but won little. We should go back to the Fergie approach where he was signing good players and developing them into great players. Only thing you could say with Fergie is that his genius could often work with average players, which most managers can't do.

FFS, it's Cavani.

This is me putting Delaney's report with Kay's webchat

Wouldn't really buy into that mate, I mean we were linked with Cavani in the summer. Would be a silly buy if you ask me, no real need for him, Woody is just interested in galactico signings and doesn't seem to care about building a team.

Nah, United have a freakish obsession last few years, and that's based on it happening this window. Delaney saying Cavani's entourage approached United. That's very new, and unsettling.

Yea, ****, just seen the ESPN report. I honestly don't know what to make of this. Would he really leave PSG in this window? I doubt it, plus they are in CL.

Who knows. In fairness, he doesn't know anything about price, and he was up front with that. Just that there is mutual interest and that Cavani's side approach the club, rather than other way round. Not that long in the window either. It's less likely for Cavani to go United in summer, than now.

Idk what we would really solve now by getting Cavani, especially with Rooney in form and if he doesn't play striker I want Martial there. Odd transfer if it happens, plus if we did look at a striker mayswell wait for summer and go for someone more long term like Morata.

this sounds like edd being billy big balls and saying look at us sepending **** loads on players than rather than build a team

A 433 of

De Gea,
Darmain, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw
Herrera,Morgan,Mata,
Cavani, Rooney,Martial

isn't a bad FM team on paper. :)
