How am I clueless? Woodward has publicly said all this stuff in the past, about our finances and how we WILL sign the best players. It is utter stupidity, even if opponents or other clubs know our finanial strength already, saying these things out in the open is still very inept for someone in his position and will make things more awkward when dealing with other clubs undoubtedly. Oh and makes us look totally stupid as a club when we don't pull things off which he spouts, which often happens.

Yeah because when ManUtd negotiate, selling clubs think "Yeah Woody made that statement, so lets ask for more" isn't it. Like I said, go and check the history and you will see big clubs always end up paying more because they have more money.

We are going nowhere whilst these people like Woodward have a say in footballing issues, at least appoint a Director Of Football to help run the footballing side of things and then shove these money men like Woody back to the commercial side. That's our only hope if you ask me. We're going to be Ac Milan, a giant fallen so rapidly people will no longer even realise the fall from grace that has happened unless things change.

DoF doesn't mean it would be a success, Didn't you see what happened with Spurs when they appointed one? Woodward is criticised for making money for the club which is weird. You want big money signings but hate the person who is bringing money to the club.

All our board cares about including Woody is revenue and they have no interest in the football whatsoever unless it puts the revenue under threat. A club totally controlled and run by money men we now are apart from a few ambassador icons like Charlton and Fergie. Even Journalists have stated this numerous times. For example: -

That's a ridiculous point. ManUtd are famous because they won trophies. Businessman like Glazers know that, they don't give **** about the club but they do about money. Only way money flows is by winning trophies.

I guess a shortened version is the Glazers are the root of all evil in this club and our only ultimate hope is for a takeover led by a fan consortium or someone who genuinely has a passion for the club.

When in effect you're just A N Other club living off the reputation who very little fear anymore.

The parallels between ourselves the early '90's and Utd now, albeit with far more money at play (which continues to be waisted like we did and gets less and less attractive the longer you're out Champs League and away from a sniff of winning trophies) are uncanny.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the signs of Utd going down that same path and fans deluding themselves into thinking it's temporary because 'We are Manchester United' are glaringly familiar.

They do it for themseleves but they never interfere with management of football team. It's entirely on manager and Woody is for signing players and commercial deals.

Like I said, when the going gets tough, just blame anyone and everyone. Clueless. Those Red Knights and MUST are the worst that happened to the club.

Glazers are not great owners but they aren't even bad when it comes to football related decisions. They are making money with lot of commercial deals and letting manager to use that money.

Did you know we used to miss out on players before because we had to wait that "PLC" to make decisions or we had rigid wage structure which meant we couldn't sign Batistuta or came very close to losing Keane?

You should really check the history first. You are under the assumption that everything was rosy back in the back, which it wasn't.

Wouldn't really argue with any of this, not like I'm seeing anything that will prove to me that we are not going down a similar path as Liverpool did anyway.

The only good thing that if we truly do fall, the Glazers will go eventually because the money will slowly dry up. That could be the biggest blessing in disguise.

Not many Utd fans would disagree with you on the Glaziers, but let's be honest here, there's VERY few owners/ Chairman of football clubs today in it for the love of the Club. They most ALL are in it to milk every last drop they can out of today's cash cow for themselves.

Yup. Its looking dire if they don't turn it around quickly. Sponsors won't stick around forever if there are no trophies, and global fanbase will jump the ship if footbal continues to be garbage. Its one thing for Europeans, all of Europe and UK is in the similar time zone. But there's millions of people all over the world, staying up or waking up early at weirdest hours, just to watch United. And those guys will give up first.

To revisit this point, did you forget how Gill used to give interviews when the season tickets were on sale and at the start of transfer window like how manager has big warchest and can sign anyone, only to end up spending **** all.

It was Fergie's brilliance that saved years of not spending properly. Who was the CEO at that time? Gill. He was brilliant though but when it comes to transfer market he was poor. He was good with laying foundation for the club long term though, so I don't have any bad word to say about Gill when it comes to non transfer side. But when it comes to transfers, it was all talk with nothing to back up.

I don't hate Woodward like lot of clueless people do by blaming him for everything. He is doing job correctly, signs lot of commercial deals which brings lot of money and signs the player managers wants. I'm not a huge fan of his, but atleast I have sense to blame the correct person.

People think he is clueless because he tries to sign big players, not his mistake if selling club can't keep their gob shut. He at least tries and when they are not available, he goes for plan B or C.

You want United to be an elite club but blame Woodward for trying to sign big players that ManUtd manager wants.

Manager wanted Di Maria and even mentioned his name when he wanted wingers, Woodward signed.

Now tell me why you think he is the problem. What's the mistake he has done.
Is trying to sign big players a mistake?
Is backing manager by spending big a mistake?
or is signing lot of commercial deals which gives the club money to spend a mistake?

The Glazers are business men. Nothing more. They have improved the commercial side of the club 1000% since they came. You can argue about the money we have to spend paying back the debt but the fact is that the money being used to pay the debt is covered by all the sponsorships that the Glazers and their team have aquired over the years. The money for the debt is only a fraction of what we generate because of them. The term ppeculate to accumulate is perfect for them.

They have set us up for the foreseeable future from the commercial side. We were the first to have a training kit sponsor, training ground sponsor. and everything else they have done. When these deals are up for renewal, they can only get bigger.

They never interfere with the football side of things. Which is the best thing any owner could do. All they are interested in is making money, and we have made 10 fold with them at the club

David Gill admits he is still recovering from the devastating blow in the title race but has stressed that moves are already afoot to bring in new players during the summer.

The chief executive has confirmed there is cash for Sir Alex Ferguson to spend to improve his squad and targets have already been identified.

“It turned into a very difficult afternoon but that’s football for you,” said Gill, recalling Sunday's events. “We’ve had a great season, got 89 points and the title has never been decided on goal difference before. All the players and staff can be very proud of what they’ve achieved.

“I do think everyone at the club, from Alex down, agree we underperformed in Europe this year. We felt confident of getting out of our Champions League group and the Europa League was new for us and took some getting used to. But it demonstrates the high standards set for this club.

“The very fact we finished second and no team has come second with 89 points means we’ve got a lot to be proud of. We’ve got to move on and I’m sure we’ll come back fighting next year.”

When discussing moves on the transfer front, the chief executive is awaiting developments over the course of the summer.

“The manager, Jim Lawlor and the scouting team, everyone is looking at it and discuss it throughout the period,” he explained. “Obviously, the work intensifies now in terms of actually doing deals and we’ve identified players so let’s see what happens.

“It’s a 365-day-a-year job that talent is always on our radar but the paperwork is done in the close season and transfer window – we can sort out the deals beforehand and get them moving.”

In terms of competition from Manchester City at the head of the market, he replied: “We have to sell what this club is about. We still pay very well in terms of transfer fees and wages. City have raised the bar again and we’ve seen what they’re prepared to pay for players and to players but we’ll see what’s happening with the financial fair play and how that’s implemented and what the sanctions are going to be.

“It’s interesting. We should recognise we’re a very successful club, one of the top three in terms of turnover in world football and it generates a lot of cash to invest in players. We will continue to do so and our style is both buying players and giving youth a chance.

“Without doubt [there is money to spend]. We recognise we spent quite a bit of money last summer when we bought Phil Jones, David De Gea and Ashley Young and we understand that. I think we’ll be looking in the next few months and there could be some interesting developments.

“Come August, we’ll have got new players, had the Euros, the players will be back, we will have been on tour and start again. That’s the beauty of football. Everyone starts on zero points and we’ve got to step up to the mark and do well.”

It's common for CEO to back manager and give some assurance to fans saying there are funds for transfers. Even Arsenal owner said how much reserve cash they have if Wenger wants to spend. Woodward is not the first one and wouldn't be the last one to talk about how much money there is for transfers. ​

Every summer it is always this, we need 3 or so signings, that only applies if they are the right ones. Name me a transfer window under Woodward where you have been confident that it has been well thought out and not involved a panic buy.

Even last summer you can say that Martial was a panic buy and there was next to no thought put into it, we ship out like 4 strikers and then bring in 1 at the last moment then wonder why in this season we are struggling for goals.

Same can be said for defence and all our other problem areas that was evident way before this season.

Obviously LVG has a big responsibility to this as well.

It doesn't work like that mate. It really doesn't. Whole world knows about Adidas deal and Chevrolet deal. No need to hide and Woodward is not stupid.

CEO talks about money all the time. He says he want to sign big players which is what ManUtd CEO should be doing. That's what big clubs do and Woody has balls to do that.
