You discount Pellegrini because he is being "dumped" by Man City. Man City are bringing in Pep. Probably the best manager in the world right now. I think you can cut Man City some slack and realize that very few managers would keep their job if Pep wanted to come to the club. I think the only manager that people wouldn't replace with Pep would be Alex Ferguson unless Ferguson was retiring.
But if you discount Pellegrini because of that, why aren't you discounting Jose? He got sacked for leading Chelsea, the team that won the league last season, on the brink of having to fight for relegation. He wasn't replaced by a better manager or anything, he was sacked because he was doing a **** poor job of managing the team. But you're just going to ignore arent you...

My main concern with Mourinho is basically his whole attitude off the pitch (he's no saint while on there either haha).
This season he imploded. Things did not go right so he kicked off at anything and everything he could. United would not be happy with that behavior.
My kinds of manager are the Ancelotti / Pelegrini mould. Even Wenger to a certain extent.

He actually came back to Chelsea and won the title, which you seem to forget.... the second season was a mess totally but I'm not discounting Pellegrini because of the job he done at City, more because it would send out the total wrong messages coming straight from a direct rival and Mourinho is a better manager.
Pellegrini looks like someone near his retirement as well, so there would be no hope of any longevity in comparison to Mournho either. They would both most likely be short-term spells, so in that case only logical option is the guy with a proven track record of instant success.

We all know he had a bad season. But you don't write off Mourinho for that. Mourinho would come back with a point to prove, that is a more hungry/determined Jose, if he could come back with that kind of attitude and give United some short-term success I'd take it over Pellegrini any day. The only thing Pellegrini has over Mourinho is better temperament and better person generally, but that doesn't get success.
It was unexpected though, them winning the Champions League was arguably Jose's finest achievement other than what he done at Porto with them in CL.

I would not mind Pelle tbh very likeable by players and media, plays good football to. My only worry would be his age not his ability as a manager.

The point wasn't really about how well any season went in particular. I was trying to get across the fact that Jose seems to upset everyone at some point. He doesn't stay very long anywhere and it's not really because he wants to manage in another league, he becomes a nuisance as much as a genius by the time he leaves any club bar Porto.
And we all know which man really gets under his skin.....*eyes towards Pep*
But your original reply didn't make much sense because you were arguing that his success wasn't unexpected. But the biggest thing in football that he won with Inter was unexpected.
So his spell in general over Inter was unexpected success. Winning the league with Inter was also a bigger achievement than people on here seem to give credit for, tougher league than it was today and he managed to do it consecutively.
If that's not unexpected success I don't know what is? What's he got to do? Win a club world cup?
Many managers got under Fergie's skin over the years and he still had success against them. Pep may well get under Mourinho's skin but again, he has still had success against him so it doesn't mean much.
Most managers today will fall out with players when they are playing spectacularly *****, that is the way of the management world.
I'd rather have someone with a bit of charachter and fight in him than LVG or Moyes. Plus a manager like LVG has had plenty of history of 'incidents' shall we say at clubs before.

If we're saying Mourinho or Pellegrini it's an absolute no contest. Going for Pellegrini in this situation would be stupidity.
How any United fan wants Pellegrini instead of Jose is beyond me, even worse is comparing rivalry between Chelsea and United with United and City. There is no rivalry with Chelsea except they were our rivals for league. With City, Liverpool, Leeds, Arsenal it's completely different.
With Pep going to City, only way to bounce back from that is to sign Jose. All these "long term" thing is of no use in modern game. Even Pep will stay for 3 years before packing his bag to PSG. We should be competing for league title before sponsors starts pulling out. No one wants to pay huge money to the club that doesn't win titles or even can't qualify for CL.

I'm not a big fan of Mourinho coming to United but now it makes more sense and definitely if it's between him or Pellegrini.
Why would someone want this old fart at the club? lol
If we miss out on Jose then good bye to challenging for league title in the near future.
I honestly have no idea.... because he is a nice bloke? That's all I can think of.
