The Manchester United Thread

Just don't see that holding true. Irrespective of other leagues, more or less every team goes full pelt for 90 minutes all season long here. The quality isn't that high, particularly defensively. which invariably leads to great excitement. But there's very rarely easy matches for anyone over the course of a season.

Just watch some BL games, it's visible to the naked eye, don't even need any stats.

Back when England was tormenting our NT in WC/Euro quals throughout the 90s, I was always scared shitless before these games, because you've played like on fast forward. It seemed that all your players have 4 lungs. The 96's team was ******* terrifying, they were running like on cocaine and had technical ability to support it too.

And we had really solid team back then. We played very close games vs France in the WC 98 quals, we could fight Italy, we could fight the Dutch, but England would always run us off the pitch bleeding.

But now? We could go toe to toe and you wouldn't see who's more physically fit. The world has caught up long ago, and the intensity of Premier League is just an outdated meme.

I heard demichelis is planning on retiring at the end of the season

How hilarious would that be! Rashford put his *** to retirement

He's been saying that for 2 years, he'll see out here then play a final season back in argentina.

This post might look completely out of blue as im not arsed to quote the relevant post.

Mighty Liverpool can sign class players if they are not in CL but poor ManUtd should be in CL to sign any decent player. Atleast thats what i read in the combination of 2 threads.

Not sure whether they/someone are trolls or just retarded not to see the contradiction.

Also zzeezzy, saying you want Berta as he is sporting director and talk as if woodward is clueless on football, Berta was also former banker. He wasn't a "football man" either.

Yeh I heard this, but still, doesn't change the fact that Atletico are a well run football club and do a lot of good transfer business. Woodward is a good commercial guy but he's in the wrong job, his lack of know how in this role I think does have an effect on some of our deals.

Still if Mourinho wants to bring him in, have faith that he think Berta can do a better job than Woodward in this field.

Yes I find it rather odd as well, I mean over ln the looney thread they are talking about players of the ilk of Gotze, without champions league. I mean unless he is totally in love with Klopp (which I admit is a possibility) I could never see him leaving Bayern to then join a club in Europa League.

Ansewred your own point mate as regards that one. His former manager.

I know, but still the point stands, you surely must realise you are not going to be tempting to players if you are outside of Champions League?

I mean you may attract the odd German who loves Klopp, like Gotze, which would be a massive coup given the circumstances, but still.

There wasn't any real top bracket 'name' being discussed was there outside of the continued Gotze rumours from Germany and his relationship with Klopp?

The recent example to the 'Champions League' point would be Matip turning down Bayern and guaranteed success to come. They went in hard for him by he and his agents own admission. The managers a leveller somewhat to a lot of players the Continent.

FWIW, unless there's someone of that ilk (Gotze) available that fits, I don't think we'd be going after that sort of name anyway. Klopp's far more about coaching players up and getting the right players for him that fit. Whereas Ed's more about the major name that sells jersey's and pulls in sponsors.

So being "football man" is not all that important as long as they do proper job. Woodward has completed most of the signings manager wanted, he is not the one who is scouting players. We have a team for that. Woodward role is to get the player and he is doing good job.

Saying that, from what I read this Berta guy is highly rated and has eye for talent. If so hopefully we get him along with Jose.

Woodward is not in a wrong job. He knows how to make money and how to spend it. It's the people between who aren't doing the job.

I can see him joining Liverpool. Like I said, Champions league is a good tool to attract players but that's not be all and end all. Players like Yaya, Silva, Dzeko all moved to City when they were not in CL. Gotze is hardly a youngster, he has not improved at all and he is a part player at Bayern.

He need a club where he can play all the time and he knows what to expect from Klopp. So this might happen considering the massive wages PL clubs can pay.

What I have issue with is, few saying ManUtd can't sign players as they are not in CL and at the same time discussing Reus moving to Liverpool. How few say ManUtd's pull is not that great as they are on decline and at the same time they say Liverpool pull shouldn't be underestimated especially in Europe.

Full of contradictions. Tbf, it's not even few. It's just one and everyone knows who that 'contradicting one' is.

Here we go again with Woodward.
Dont poke it.

Just clarifying few things for zz ;)

Being a banker shouldn't be used as stick to beat them when there are many examples of successful managers/CEOs/Sporting directors who were from "Outside football"

Whereas Ed's more about the major name that sells jersey's and pulls in sponsors.

Herrera, Shaw, Rojo, Blind, Depay, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Romero, Martial were all big names and for selling jerseys.

Only Di Maria, Falcao and Schweinsteiger were big stars and no club would turn down Di Maria if they have money to buy him.

Only in England people moan about targeting big players to improve squad. Not sure how this "selling jerseys" myth had legs to survive this long when there are 100s of articles to prove it wrong.

Really do not get the woodward rhetoric at all, he has two qualities you want, makes a **** tonne of money and can close a deal. Its not like he wull be identifying your targets. Think some people just like to clutch at stuff to moan about, and need to take a step back and think about it logically.

A few reports coming from Holland that we have agreed to sign Tahith Chong, Feyernoords and Hollands hottest prospects. To be announced soon.

The theory of this is that Klopp will improve their pull, makes sense.

But then we are talking about Jose Mourinho, and Mendes backing him, and that's makes us incredibly dangerous in the market

Absolutely. Mourinho's stature is another leveller again regardless of where Utd finish this year.

Just be nice when that's official (or not) to have something substantial to go on.
