Considering we have used CBJ, Varela and Fosu-Mensah I don't see what the issue is really, they have been performing better than our so called 'senior fullbacks' that LVG chose to go into this season with which includes the likes of Darmian, Rojo, Valencia and Young. I do not care what anyone says, you are asking for trouble if you go into a season expecting Valencia and Young to be fullbacks.

Ok we can all agree Shaw was a massive loss, but like I say, CBJ/Varela/Fosu-Mensah have all been worthy of playing in senior team and have not looked out of shape playing in senior team. They have been better than the players who they are covering for (apart from Shaw).

Fortunate in the sense that Smalling has never had a season like this injury wise, playing so consistently and if you don't know that Jones is going to be a constant injury note looking at his history well... that's just poor management from the start that you didn't address that area.

Most fans wanted a CB at the start of the season and your point about Blind is true, but probably just backs up my point. We wasn't sufficient in this area going into the season.

Or he could of had the flip side which Klopp has had to deal with at FB (not to mention the rest of L'pool's horrendous injury list to key players the majority of the season) where he's had the top two, Clyne and Moreno, having to play almost constantly all year round. 50 and 48 games respectively out of the 60 the club has played this year. Which I believe is the most of any team the top 5 European leagues. He had nottin' behind with Flanagan out and the completely inexperienced (and by no means good enough IMO) Randle and to a lesser extent Brad Smith. Both Nathaniel and Albie have been in desperate need of rest most weeks this year but have had to play through circumstance. And the way we now play really takes it out of you physically game-to-game.

Have Utd had a horrible run of luck in one position injury wise? No question. But injury's are part and parcel of the game and Van Gaal's had no worse an overall situation to deal with this year than other managers. It's football and you deal.

(And that's before you look at Utd's specific situation and the natural FB's he overlooked for so long in place of wingers he insists on having back there. Or the player he released in the summer leaving him light in the position.).

Like yer man but every time I see you run with this it just smacks of the perfect excuse Van Gaal likes to throw out there to cover his massive short falls at Utd.

Really feel for Sir Bobby through all this.

Always had the utmost respect for that man who's always comes across as humble and exceptionally dignified whenever I've heard him speak. Not least on my own club. To be torn over wanting the best for the club he's given a lifetime to, but not wanting a man who is the complete opposite of that must be horrible for a Utd man of his values.
 
Honestly, I didn't hear these protests on mourinho when united fans were begging for him to replace fergie. I remember prior to when moyes was announced, ALOT of united fans wanted mou to take over when he got sacked by perez. They were little to no mentions of these "united values" at that point. Why start now? Obviously one season of him failing at Chelsea has probably changed everyone's opinion of him.

I dont really. He wants a man with no credible experience in Giggs in charge.

If he wanted the best for United, he'd work with Mourinho and keep the balance.

Most [eople wanted Mourinho when Moyes was hired. That hasn't really changed

To be fair, if we're honest, after a lot of the **** that played out under Ferguson and what he came out with, any talk of 'Utd values/ Utd way/ however else you want to term it' is pretty moot today.

But someone like Charlton is from a completely different era and still adhere's to those values.
 
Whilst I'm thinking on, is the Cup Final another stupid (and un-fan friendly to be kind) tea-time kick-off again?

think it might be seeing as money talks these days should go back to the season ends cup final sat after then on the wensday cl final then last games over the bank hoilday weekend should be the playoff finals but thats just me

Charlton is a very sharp man and has been there for all 26 years of Ferguson's success and antic. He's not torn at all, and he's not naively caught up.

Not so great for Utd fans from Manchester/ the North West though. After the disgrace of no trains back the North West after the semi-final (when they had 2 London based teams kicking off the afternoon on the Sunday), the last train home is 9 PM out of Euston. You can't book anything earlier in case it goes extra time and peno's. And if it does and you factor in Utd potentially lifting the Cup, you're liable to have to miss that to get out and through the crowds to make the train.

But then since when have the footballing authorities cared about the paying football fan?
