The Manchester United Thread

We all knew what West ham's game plan would be today. Use their height, especially with Carroll, and the set piece deliveries from payet. I don't think there has been a player putting in this many great crosses from set pieces since Charlie Adam at Blackpool.

We really missed fellaini today. It would have made so much difference.

I've not looked at heights of players but Rojo doesn't look particularly tall to me. I could be wrong. How tall is CBJ in comparison? How tall is TFM and where was he? Ok you could argue Rojo is a senior, more experienced "defender", but when his defending over 90 minutes is 90% made up of dealing with set pieces, he's been completely taken out of the game.

Like I said, I could be wrong and look stupid here, and if I am I will hold my hands up, but why did LVG not try to include a few more taller players to deal with the obvious threat we knew they would use?

If I am right then it's very poor management.

We don't have any tall players look at the bench. Lingard, Memphis, Januzaj, CBJ no height what so ever. Poor coaching is to blame imo and lack of concentration.

Is CBJ not taller than rojo? Or is it just his hair lol

Just had a look on transfermarkt and Rojo is 1,86m and CBJ is 1,88m so probably not enough to make much of a difference. Ignore my ramblings lol

BBC saying we have a verbal agreement with Mourinho.

SpoilerIt is understood talks have taken place with Mourinho, who has also managed Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Porto. A verbal agreement that the 53-year-old Portuguese will become the next manager at Old Trafford is believed to have been reached.

United chief executive Ed Woodward has been silent on Van Gaal's future at the club.

After losing at West Ham Tuesday, United must now beat Bournemouth and hope Swansea defeat Manchester City on the final weekend of the Premier League season to claim top-four finish and a place in the Champions League qualifiers.

United meet Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on 21 May.

I guess I missed quite the game. And Herrea has been utter **** the entire season, I'm always amazed when fans sign his name.

Exactly. Don't know why fans were calling for LVG's head when he got benched for fellaini. He hasn't done anything to merit a starting berth.

Blind isn't the reason why this is **** season. But he's the part of it. Not the biggest, but still big.
#1 - Creativity in the attack.
#2 - Midfielder who can offer protection and control the tempo.
#3 - Getting a RB and CD
and then maybe #4 - a new striker
Believe it of not but we created waaay more chances with Tom cleverly and Carrick in midfield.

I had this argument with scouseindahouse before. System is more important that the players. System is the difference between making a player look quality and look awful. Some united fan on here, who actually said he'd take lvg seeing out his contract over mou taking over, said our current attacking players aren't good enough to break defences. That is completely false. We had one of the best playmakers in europe (di maria) yet we still struggled to create chances (bar the first few weeks). I don't understand how any manager would make di Maria look as awful as lvg did. Same thing is happening to Memphis atm. Again, attacking players never thrive under lvg cos he obviously restricts them and he constantly moves them around the pitch.

If Stone's accurate in his reporting, then that has to put a serious question mark over the widespread belief he's being sacked off.

Well that was before top 4 race was effectively over.

Yup. Herrera seems to be a graduate of Paul Scholes Tackling School.

Lol I remember when I made a comment about subbing Herrera off for Carrick at halftime yesterday.

LVG had the right idea. We lacked composure in the middle but the big mistake was subbing schneiderlin off for 2 reasons

1. We needed tall and gritty players on the pitch there to counter west ham's aerial threat so taking off schneiderlin makes us a whole lot more shorter.

2. I know schneiderlin was having a bad game but Herrera was perhaps worse. I think the DM role doesn't really suit schneiderlin. I remember the city game at the Etihad where he had that license of getting forward and he looked absolutely fantastic. That's where he's at his best. I suggested pushing him upfront alongside rooney with Carrick sitting in behind the 2.

That's being said, that DM problem is still present. We need a younger Micheal carrick. I'd seriously like us to try McNair or fosu Mensah at DM and see how they do. Maybe we won't need to splash out cash on one.

Yeah but still bizarre and ridiculous regardless to have him over seeing plans if there's any doubt.

But it who knows what to believe/ think? There's that much different speculation on a daily basis that until he's officially binned or kept everyone is just speculating and forming their own conclusions.

Pjanic would actually be a really good buy for United like someone here said. He can score and assist and his free kicks are top class.

United really do need another recognized central defender and a right back backup for Darmian, though There are not many amazing players in that position that I can think of
