Darmian doesn't fill me with confidence, he gives away a lot of silly fouls too. .

He's Italian, they all have a degree from Universty of Dark Arts in Hogwarts. He knows exactly what he's doing when he fouls.

Darmian is miles better those those two at RB. Varela gets caught out and is pretty poor at one on ones and TFM is not even a RB and would be wasting his ability there. Darmian will be a defensive beast under Mou.

Varela is miles better going forward, so really it comes down to what you want to prioritise in a fullback. Fosu-Mensah is a better defender than Darmian IMO. If I had my way he'd be starting in midfield, but we're being linked with Matic, Kante, Acquah, etc. so it's unlikely he'll play there. I don't think he'll play centre-back, he won't be needed at LB either, so RB is his best chance at getting in the team next season.

TFM should not even be starting and is a perfect Mourinho CM. And there's no way Varela will be starting ahead of Darmian because first and foremost he is a defender which Mourinho likes. Plus Darmian going forward should not be judged under a season with LVG. He was very good going forward playing with Torino. TFM will get his chances in CM, but we should not be expecting him to be a key figure in our team next season or maybe the season after depending on his progression this season coming.

Fosu Mensah should get chances even as CB. Would love him more in the midfield though. He is a beast physically and can dominate midfield. Also he can break forward very effectively. His dribbling is decent and very good technically.

On Darmian, IMO we should give him free pass for last season. He was superb in the first few games before getting Van Gaaled. His crossing is poor but he contributes lot going forward with his passing and runs. He needs to toughen up though, he lost too many physical battles so easily and looked out of breath at half time.

Agree on both accounts. He should get chances at CB as cover. But future should be in CM. And Darmian will be good under Mou he will really help him as he is class at coaching and drilling his defenders.

Exactly my thoughts for Fosu-Mensah, spot on there. Fosu-Mensah could be a beast in midfield, hope Jose utilises this guy in the coming season.

Can you ******* not? It was hilarious enough when you blamed LVG for misusing Bastian, even though LVG literally invented Bastian as midfielder and taught him how to play there in the first place. I'd imagine Smalling doesn't mind that he got "VanGaaled" either, considering he transformed from the guy everyone wanted ditched, into England starter and most likely future captain in a span of two years.

If there's anybody benefiting from tight organization and endless drills, it's the defenders mate. They like having structure to everything, it's the attacking lot that had a problem with it.

Darmian's problems were due the side being unbalanced. Almost every opponent targeted your left flank, because if they lost the ball on the left, it was going to Martial who would have acres of space. Meanwhile on your left, with epic defensive cover provided by Mata-Lingard midget brigade, Darmian had to defend basically by himself, and he has no pace to recover if things go **** up. There's a reason why LVG prefered having Valencia as RB late in the season, even if it meant playing Darmian on the left and out of position.

Willian would be perfect signing if you could get him too. Can shut down shop on the right, and then the opposition can have a choice to go down your right and deal with a winger who will relentlessly track back, or they can go down your left and get buttfucked by Shaw's and Martial's pace. Not the situation I'd like to be in.

I don't know why people even excepted Darmian to leave. Jose likes a defender who can defend first of all, and it will be badly needed on the right side to balance Shaw on the left.

He was a wall when the season started, then had like 200 injuries, after barely ever missing a game during 4 years in Torino. Not exactly surprising he was shaken up a bit.

The weirdest thing is he crosses better with his left foot

When all your players except 2-3 play below their level then it's easy who is messing around. Van Gaal's rigid tactics means players were all restricted to their boxes. All the players (bar 2-3) played worse than they did in previous year or previous club.

I gave credit to Van Gaal for improving Smalling and promoting lot of youth players. He deserves lot of credit for that, for players like Rashford, Fosu Mensah, CBJ and many others but the point is because of his tactics there were many players who played well below their ability.

Schneiderlin from one of the best CM in the league to average player.
Herrera was excellent last season and before that and form there to average player.
Schweinsteiger from bossing the world cup and top teams to side ways passing merchant.
Darmian from the best FB in Serie A to such poor player. He started superbly though.
Rojo was a beast in the World cup and now looks like duck out of water.

This Van Gaal is very different from the old one. Since the Leicester beating he was scared to play attacking football.

Darmian looked low on confidence after first few games. Before that he looked brilliant and after first few games he just lost battle with every winger and became very shaky player.

Schneiderlin from one of the best CM in the league to average player. The guy is still quality, don't understand why he was benched.
Herrera was excellent last season and before that and form there to average player. LVG was there last season too.
Schweinsteiger from bossing the world cup and top teams to side ways passing merchant. The only reason we have him now was LVG...
Darmian from the best FB in Serie A to such poor player. He started superbly though. Think it was more like his injuries that had significant impact on his performances.
Rojo was a beast in the World cup and now looks like duck out of water. Same as above.

This is how I see it, can be wrong of course but having LVG here wasn't a total disaster, that's for sure.

Great to see Schweinstiger back on the pitch last night, even bagging himself a goal. And great to see DDG starting for Spain today!!!

Wow. Casillas actually dropped for the first time in like forever huh? Never expected to see that his last tournament with Spain.

Never said he was a total disaster. I said we have to give him credit for Smalling's development and promoting lot of youth players.

All the players I mentioned looked like fish out of water when played. Herrera was very good when played but benched for no reason in 2014-15 season.

Yeah we wouldn't have signed if not for Schweinsteiger but once signed he wasn't used effectively. Darmian and Rojo looked poor before injuries too.

On a whole it wasn't a total disaster considering how he promoted many young players who could be the core of our future teams.

Base crashes are infurating since it messes up quote tracking and stuff.

Blondie Felli is bossing tha midfield tonight.

Would of had the Napoli fella' starting over him against that D. Guile not brawn was needed. Origi needs on to stretch this Italian defence.

Like 17 minutes ago.

*Edit* I'd of left Lukaku on like to help him out and not gone for a straight swap.

*Double Edit* Oh Divock lad. You HAVE to bury that!

And another. Sighs. Two bad free header misses that should of been goals.
