The Manchester United Thread

I'm mad excited about De Gea, Bailly and Smalling.
How many clean sheets do you think we will keep this season?

We kept 18 clean sheets last season without Bailly... So I'm going for 25 this season ;)

Doubtful we exceed that by much, more games if we take Europa League even half seriously, but with the fire power and it's being Mou's first season, I don't expect world dominance just yet.

Have to say that I have no idea (how many people even know him?) who this Bailly is and would he truly give you that much to defense?

Same here lol. Seen a lot of people saying how hes great in the air.... Looked at his aerial duel success rate and its 53%. Smallings was at 63 I think

Surprised we haven't heard more rumours on the players leaving yet, I assume Mourinho has made up his mind who he doesn't want. maybe shifting them is the issue.

This is my deal for Pogba > Fellaini, Depay, Blind.

Perfectly reasonable. No cash to be spent. |)

Wouldnt get rid of the last 2 at all. Young and Valencia. Both 30. the others have big ceilings, especially Depay

Speak for others. With Zlatan never having scored against against L'pool and Klopp owning Mourinho, no fear down the other end of the East Lancs. :).

Mourinho does have a great record against Liverpool though. 8 wins a draw and 2 losses including a win where he played his back up team

There was 'that' Liverpool. (Although with 2 European Cup and 1 FA Cup semi final defeats to Rafa's L'pool I guess he'd rather not talk about that either. ;).).

And there's 'Klopps' Liverpool.

The later will see yers October 15. Or whatever date Sky decide to move it next week when the TV changes are out.

But there are differences between his Dortmund and Liverpool sides as well (For your Klopp vs Mourinho). Namely the Dortmund one being better and therefore more likely to win

Liverpool is Liverpool, records don't change because another manager was in charge.

Many people today sadly just see the big fee and don't take anything else into account. Forget the fact Memphis was only 21 last year. Forget the fact it was his first time away from home and his family in his life. In a completely new Country with all that entails. Forget the fact he was suddenly stepping up from a sub-standard league in relation to one of the major leagues in Europe, with the spotlight firmly on him after the big money move. And forget the fact that most all young players go through up's and downs through there development. Often with more downs than ups unless you're exceptionally lucky until they mature. (In football terms.). And that's before you even start on LVG and the bad situation for anyone to come into. Let alone someone under Memphi's circumstances.

Just look at the £25 million fee and all the media hype and he should of been tearing it up out of the gate God **** it!

Not directed at zz in particular. Just a general point as we read it often on here from many and elsewhere but it's WAY too early to thinking of binning Memphis after year one. Let the kid grow and develop. If we're still having this conversation a year or two down the line then it's relevant. Right now, it's not.

You wonder how quickly people will turn on Rashford when he inevitably dips as youngsters most all do and goes through a baron spell?

Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra

Two modern day legends. Two players who were utterly awful in their first seasons.

If we bin players after a season we might as well give up.

And as all Dortmund fans last year would (and did) tell you leading up to the European tie they got stunned in, 'On paper, we win this tie easy. We're FAR ahead of you in development. But you have Kloppo. And he equals things out. He makes everyone believe!'

See you in October. We relish the challenge. The battle alone in the North West should make next years title battle fascinating.

It's not really a matter of giving up, it's more considering the attitude and mentality of the player as to whether he is likely to reach his 'high ceiling'. In my opinion the answer for Depay has been a resounding no from all I've seen so far.

But my main reason why would not be against including him in a deal for Pogba is because we really don't need him now. He'll be behind Mkhi and Martial, will struggle to get regular games and will become unhappy quickly.

Depth anyone?

It may improve.. Memphis knows that Mourinho doesn't suffer fools, and after the season he has just had, he will also be itching to prove himself relevant. Especially because it can only go downhill from here if his status quo continues. He was a tremendous talent when we bought him, feel we should stick with him and see.

And then again, we have Martial, Lingard and Depay on the left hand side, along with Rashford who can also be there. That's still pretty good for rotational games, considering Europa League..

Yeah we do we need. Depth. It's been one season and he's a young player. Jesus.

We could have 60 games if we are remotely successful next season.

If we had used your logic, we'd have binned Vidic.

I think most United fans are happy.

Depth anyone?

Why would we need depth it's not like last season we had more injuries than a season of casualty and Zzezzy was annoyed at the club for lack of depth.

We should hold onto Memphis for sure a huge talent if he doesn't work and perform this season then we can talk about moving him on

Not at all, Vidic's personality and mentality has never been questionable, totally different. Depay comes across as arrogant and lazy a lot of times, fans got frustrated with him quickly last season. He seemed to boil under the pressure.

Depth? Lingard, Januzaj, Mata, Rashford, Valencia, Young - They can all play out-wide and act as cover, no issue there.

So did Ronaldo, for almost 3 seasons.

Mata could be sold and isnt a pace forward, but a playmaker, different role.

Januzaj has the same issues you throw at Depay, but is actually even further down the line.

Lingard is covering the right, and isnt a finisher.

Rashford is already the 2 centre forward.

Valencia doesnt play on the left, is a right back, and may get sold.

Ashley Young, is the only viable option, but he is 30 and wont get any better, whereas Depay can

No player LVG signed should be sold! Just think of them as new signings under Mourinho. Selling Memphis would be the stupidest thing ever after a season.
