The Manchester United Thread

Yes, i think that too. But that also means that a multifunctional player will starve for action in his team because, as long as there are specialists, the multifunctional one will be last option.

Depends how he see's Blind really. He may see him as the back up left back to Shaw, with Rojo as primarily a central defender. If he see's Blind as a midfielder then he wont be playing many games.

FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM JOSE MOURINHO'S EXCLUSIVE MUTV INTERVIEW
Jose Mourinho shared some of his immediate plans at Manchester United when he provided an exclusive one-to-one interview to MUTV after his maiden press conference.

We pinpointed the following five things that we learned from Mourinho's conversation with MUTV reporter Stewart Gardner, which was first shown on the club's official television channel on Tuesday evening:

TRAINING STARTS ON THURSDAY
When asked how hungry he is to get started, the new manager replied: "I'm desperate! I want to train on the pitch and, in spite of many players not being here to start pre-season, I have a group that is waiting for me on Thursday and they will feel my passion!"

A DIFFERENT STYLE WILL BE PLAYED
Mourinho explained he will bring his own style of football to the club. "Yes, we want to play differently than last season. Mr [Louis] van Gaal is an absolute top manager and his philosophy is very clear. My philosophy is different. It's not better, it's different. My football is different. I am more vertical, I am more intense and I like the ball possession as a way to create a chance to be vertical. I don’t like ball possession as a way to just keep statistically possession of the ball and be afraid to play a game with transitions. Transitions always come during a game. I’m not afraid to lose the ball, I’m not afraid of risk."

WHY WE SIGNED BAILLY
The manager feels Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly possesses a rare blend of qualities. "It’s not so easy to find a big guy who is really fast. But he is a player that we believe has all the attributes. He is very strong physically and [is also] very fast."

ENGLAND TRIO WON'T PLAY ON TOUR
Although United's England Euro 2016 contingent of Chris Smalling, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney are set to travel with the squad to China later this month, they will not feature in the games against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. "I'll take them but I'm not going to play them," revealed Mourinho.

TWO YOUNGSTERS PROMOTED INTO SQUAD FOR WIGAN
Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe are likely to be involved in the pre-season friendly at the DW Stadium after the two young defenders were name-checked by the boss during the interview. He told MUTV: "I don't know them well but I just trust Nicky ****, [head of football development] John Murtough and the [youth] structure's judgement, when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players."

We Chelsea fans (myself included) eventually paid the price for giving Jose a 'free pass' for so long. His repeated digs at Wenger, Pep, Pelligerini and Benitez were sometimes justified and other times not but always tolerable and we defended him to the hilt. The problem as we realized is that when you let someone get away with small things, it can eventually lead to a massive ****-up like the Carnerio scandal which is when most of us could no longer defend him. By then the damage was done.

The difference is, you could have killed that stone dead. Poor management from the very top.

I'm so tired of this whole Carneiro thing.
It's like the Keane/Saipan incident...

Build a bridge and move on.

So how do you think we will line up against Wigan as the game is only just a couple weeks away? My guess would be

Johstone
Varela-Jones-Rojo-Shaw
Carrick-Blind
Januzaj-Mata-Memphis
Wilson

**** Forgot he was at the Copa thought he missed it through injury :) Most probs Bailly and Jones partnership. Or maybe Mourinho will want a look at players like TFM, Periera, Herrera maybe see a few he might not be sure about keeping.

Regardless of how some of us (including myself) felt about Jose.
After the last two managers, did anybody else get that hard to explain excited feeling in their chest today?
Like a kid thinking about christmas?

Not in the slightest. It's a moot point and we're the last ones that would ever effect being as you still trail behind us in those big silvery things. ;). :P.

It was just the fact he felt the need to say that. It's as cringe worthy as Moyes with the 'Peoples Club' line. You're on the first 'official' day of the job at Utd. And even that's not enough? He just can't resist being a *** and trying to feel superior to massage his ego.

But again that's Mourinho doing Mourinho stuff. Just thought he'd wait more than a day this time to try start winding people up.

Actually he said biggest in the UK and as your definition of biggest is most "big silverly things" it is Rangers not anyone else who is the biggest team in the UK.

still have major wood even now :)

Nice. Charity Shields. Not seen that one used before. Even from a United fan.

I thought we were on 44/ 43 major trophy's respectively Would never of dreamt of adding CS and the Screen Sport Super Cup (Oh what a fun competition that was- NOT! <Although the 9-2 was it aggregate final win over Everton was something.>). Being as that was a European ban filler, does the Dubai Super Cup count as well? That was another European ban filler between the English and Scottish Champions. In Dubai funnily enough with the winners getting a whopping (back the late '80's) £1 million in prize money. Which was basically just a **** up for both teams in the desert.

One needs to know as you're now scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Maybe you'd like to throw in second division titles too for the set? ;).

The trophy game is fun but the one club you don't want to play it with ..... Yeah, we'll leave that there.

Tuanzebe is currently away with England U-19's at the Euro Champs BTW in Germany. First game for England is next Tuesday for anyone interested.

So you won't be seeing him at Wigan.

I don't want to be scrapping in any barrels (I'm wearing a nice shirt).
But where do you think United will finish next season Scouse?

Pick a Champion from L'pool, Utd or Tottenham. They're the two that concern me if I'm looking at a serious L'pool challenge which I am. Utd have the Mourinho factor and Tottenham are as settled as anyone. With probably City making up the top 4.

You?
