The Manchester United Thread

Yes I think with this outlay for Pogba if it happens it is only natural we try and trim the squad by moving players on and getting some money back. Problem is we are very bad at selling players for a good price, in this market you should easily be able to get £35m for Mata/Depay... if Schneiderlin were to go £25m, Fellaini £25m. If we sold a few players we could get some decent money for them.

Why would we let schniederlin go tho?

Not sure why we would want to weaken the squad by trying to claw back money we dont need to.

Only player so far who will be immediately obselete is Fellaini. Questions over Rojo too

Blind's place depends on where he sees him. Given that we've only signed Bailly, could well continue as the versatily CB/LB

They were just a few examples of players we may let go and money we could potentially get for them.

Doesn't really matter about 'well we have the money' Mike, massive outlay if we don't get any money from players going out, if we include Pogba and our other signings will be like £200m easy.

Isn't United listed on stock market? There's no such thing as "we have the money, let's spend everything". If you sign Pogba, there will be a clearout.

It quite literally does matter than we have the money. The Adidas deal, the massive TV money rise and the marketability of our new signings, especially Zlatan and Pogba if landed is what is funding the deals, alongside our huge cash reserves.

We've spent £56m on the first three. So even with Pogba we'll just about cross £150m, which will them be amortised over the lengths of their contracts. We will then claw back tens of millions in marketing and shirt sales on them. If we keep Pogba long enough, he could pay for himself in marketing much like Ronaldo has done for Madrid.

Being listed on the stock market is actually largely irrelevant to having money and spending it.

If anything would determine sales it's United keeping wages at 50% of turnover, but that turnover has just jumped through the roof. What would now drive outs is usefulness to squad. The high wage low use Fellaini is an easy target, for example. Young might have been, but pretty sure he's taken a wage cut.

Its genuinely incredible how flush with cash every English club is now. I have a feeling sums of 60-70m will be the new normal for good players soon enough.

Marketing is such an unquantifiable entity though. How do we calculate how many viewers tuned into United due to Pogba? How do we ascertain how many season ticket members or fans turned up to watc a game due to Pogba? Only thing we know for sure in cold hard numbers is merchandise sales which long enough will claw back significant money for Pogba but I doubt it will reach €130m

Balague also say, Paul Pogba has distanced himself from Madrid in the last few days. Even told Zidane he won't be going to Madrid.

Its very much quanitifiable. You are looking at shirt sales, sponsorships. Overall drive in numbers, seasons tickets, image rights, tours. These things are tracked, thats why marketing is the massive business today, and why image rights are so important.

And United were pretty flush before the TV deal.
