The Manchester United Thread

Just watching the replay of United v Feyenoord 1997/98, forgot all about David Connolly, he was an FM legend for me over a decade ago for lower league sides.

Warford/ Wimbledon's David Connolly? Irish fella'? Wasn't a bad lower league striker him. What was he a 1 in 3? Something like that.

I fancy Memphis Depay to have a BOSS game tonight if given the chance! He's bound to be looking at the current side & thinking; "Ok, Martial has started slowly, the boss wasn't happy with Lingard, this is my chance"

He has played against Feyenoord twice in the past, scored in both games. Looks much more comfortable in European matches as opposed to the Premier League, my gut is telling me he'll show up if called upon my Jose.

Yeah mate I remember managing Ireland on one of FM's, 2006 I think it was, he got me to like the WC quarter final haha, bear of a target man on the game!

Can't wait to see Mkhitaryan setting up Rooney tonight

I'm going for 2-1 United

Really interested to see how Eric Bailly & Chris Smalling fare together.

Really interested to see how Eric Bailly & Chris Smalling fare together.

Not that I know a great deal of Utd fans granted, but those few I either know personally or whenever I listen to any on anything locally; none of them really rates Chris 'always a catastrophe waiting to happen' Smalling. It was he and not Blind they all wanted replaced this summer which Mourinho seems to concur with.

The only place that he seems to be really rated is on these here boards. (And the media who are just desperate for anything English at a big club.).

Take all that FWIW.

He was our best outfield player last season in my opinion, along with Martial, not that that's saying a whole pile. But I do rate him, gives 110%, superb in the air both defensively & offensively, reads the game well, no nonsense, quick across the ground... the only thing is, that's describing Eric Bailly too, which is why I'm interested to see how they'll fare together. Surprised to hear the people you know think that, but everyone's entitled to their opinion. I think his aggression can maybe leave that impression with some people.

Seeing the Feyenoord captain reminds me of how much I miss him. By no means the greatest footballer in the World. But man did he make the most of his limitations through sheer hard work and man did he score some majorly important goals.

I shall pay particular attention to Smalling RhQQ. Give me an interest.

Really cant wait to see this team play. If you swap Rojo and Rashford for Shaw/Zlatan I would say that would probably be my preferred lineup. I think these players will complement each other well and play more as a unit. If I were to change it further then maybe change Herrera for Pogba and put Mkhitaryan on the right with Mata at 10.

So many options with these players. If they put in a good performance tonight I can see a massive headache for Jose. Pick a TEAM not individuals on a team sheet.

Smalling made a huge progress last 2 years. He used to be an error waiting to happen, but LVG seems to have beat a lot tactical awerness into him. Still, Smallings biggest enemy is Bailey, who does everything Smalling does but better.

I'm really curious about this three-man midfield. Can't wait to see how Pogba wil perform. I've been really critical of Rooney and Fellaini, so i hope Schneiderlin and Herrera can seize the opportunity.

Anyone see that absolute beaut of a tackle from Schneiderlin? Superb

Is it just me or has darmian's crossing improved? His crossing was always good even at Torino. Was good at the start last season, but then got injured and lost form. He was very good for Torino not only defensively but attacking also. Just needs games and confidence. Still a top FB for me.
