The Manchester United Thread

I noted it. Pogbas second goal springs instantly to mind from Rooney doing just that.

Read some bollocks on him BTW overnight from Utd 'fans.' Personally thought he was as good as anything the park over the full game. People are now at the stage of narking at him for narkings sake.

In total agreement with you, it's almost as if he even if he plays excellent, if he misplaces a pass, he'll be highlighted for that, I actually feel sorry for him as a person alone never mind for the player I've loved all these years. Ok, he's had a few issues with the club off the pitch with contracts and such, but when he's on the pitch, his commitment for this club can never be doubted, it almost feels as if he's playing for his local team with the passion he plays with. Everyone I spoke to last night still loves him and are supporting him, everyone chanted his name on both penalties hoping he'd slot it away for record chasing purposes. Ok, I think he falls just short of making our first 11 in the league, but he's one **** of player to call to should you need something to happen, or to selectively use across different competitions, and when he is on the pitch, we should respect the legend. Like I said a few weeks ago, you'd think he turned into an invalid overnight or something the way people exaggerate.

Didn't know Smalling was injured, seemed to walk into the tunnel freely enough, thought it was just a preservation sub... hope he's ok for the weekend.

Jose Mourinho faces a tactical dilemma for Manchester United's trip to Chelsea

Jose Mourinho faces a tactical dilemma for Manchester United's trip to Chelsea | Football News | Sky Sports

Agree with this entirely. Mourinho does have a dilemma indeed. It's a hugely important game in context of the season I feel against Chelsea, where we really need a win.

As we discussed leading up to the L'pool game, I'll be shocked if you don't see similar Sunday from Jose. (Praying for the love of God we don't as unless Conte is having a career about-turn and going attacking, this could be one of the most boring affairs imaginable to sit through.). It's his MO. Particularly away against the top sides. Monday he took that to a whole other level of ale house ***** even for him, but that's just something you need to accept under him. He's not changed anywhere else and if Madrid and their attacking expectations couldn't change him no club will. (Cue someone to naively throw up the final goal tally's.).

I'll never forget Paco Ayestarán talking about him leading upto a Chelsea game and how L'pool would be approaching it, saying (paraphrasing) 'You're never going to get out footballed by a Mourinho side. That's no concern. The concern is mental concentration for the full 90 minutes. Because you make one mistake, and he has his side so well drilled they hit you and score. And 1 is all he needs.'

Your problem is you're nowhere near the consistent quality and he's had nowhere near the requisite time to implement those breaks to do that against the top teams. Credit to him (although that's somewhat contradictory with the amount of talent and money spent at his disposal), as God **** awful as it is to watch, that he's organised you as a team defensively to such an extent as you played at Anfield on Monday in such a short space of time. Even when your very visible lack of fitness showed from around the half hour mark and you dropped off you still were very well organised to block off the passing lanes. Where he got his tactics completely wrong IMHO and what would be frustrating me as a Utd fan was in not adjusting when he saw how flat and off L'pool were. If you'd of had ANY interest in the area 25 yards in to our goal the first half hour win particular Monday night when we couldn't so much control a ball let alone counter that press, it's far from a stretch to think you'd be sitting here now with a win.

The same happens Sunday, and that will be 4 big points dropped as much as 2 gained IMHO. Which is as vitally important a defining factor as anything IMHO against the top 6 in the final reckoning presuming the other 5 all do similar against everyone else.

Just a muscle pain. Mou said should be ok for weekend midweek at latest.

Very happy about this lad! He was up there with Chong last season in terms of ability. Our u18s are gonna be insane! :)

According to Ajax showtime, Ajax youngster Millen Baars has joined Manchester United.

The 16-year-old has been without a club since the summer after leaving Ajax and according to Ajax Showtime, Baars has now joined Manchester United.

The winger will join the clubs U18 side and becomes the third young Dutchman to leave Netherlands for the United academy in recent years after Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Tahith Chong. He will be available to play matches in January.

Baars was captain of Ajax’s B1 side last season but left after a disagreement with the Ajax coaching staff.

Sent away Baars (16) makes dream transfer

Millen Baars will quickly begin an unexpected, but no less beautiful adventure at Manchester United. Sixteen-year-old winger had to leave early this season at Ajax and after a few months of patience rolled an absolute top club from the tube.

Bass, who has played last season for Ajax B1, the season would initially start at the same B1. Coach Gery Vink made the quick dribbler even captain, but not much later it became clear that perch suddenly left. A brief statement shows that "did not correspond to the strong character of Bass with the wishes of the upper trainers.

Young Baars, who last season joined the management of Stellar Group, now will play in the coming years at Manchester United, where Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Daley Blind under contract. Perch starting at U18 and his family currently looking for a home. Since January he can play official matches. In England he will continue former Ajax Javairo Dilrosun, Donyell Grinding Familia and Juan Castillo against.

@BvdPloegg Ajax academy expert who wrote the article commented on him:

Millen is a very interesting and skilful player, quick, good dribble and has the ability to score a goal. Possibly lacks a bit on physique though.

If jose continues to park the tank in certain games and we still finish in top four come end of season i believe we will be happy.Like someone alluded to,we basically have a squad which is a mix of moyes/lvg and mourinho signings so of course will take time.Far more will be expected next season by which time our younger players will be that much experienced, the current players more settled and familiar with jose tactics and of course there will be a couple of star additions. No worries at all for the future imo

Not at all. Problems were between his new group and Ajax.

Unless I'm reading that wrong he was at odds with what the coaches wanted and what team they wanted him to play/ stay with this year.

Certainly suggests he's got an ego/ attitude when it's like that at 16.

Pogba scored a couple of goals (including a cracker) and Rooney put in a solid performance, there's the scapegoats out of commission, so it's back to Mkhitaryan on today's episode of United bashing, starring: The Media.

ESPN's headline today;
Will Henrikh Mkhitaryan get a second chance at Manchester United?

Remind me, when did he get this first "chance"? 45 minutes against Manchester City as his first start of the season after coming on against Hull to change the game?

Why would you be even arsed writing an entire article on this? Making something of nothing, again.

Just going off what I've read and been told by regular watchers who go to the Ajax academy to see games. Will see how he goes and what his attitude is like.

And not to forget TFM... To be honest it makes me sad and sick that this is happening.

Outside of money I don't understand why any Dutch kid would want to leave Ajax so young. There's still no better grounding/ education, on or off the pitch, in World football, than the Ajax academy. And there's EVERY chance you'll progress and play the first team. Which if you're then good enough, you'll get your big money European move somewhere. Probably real early in your career at 18-21/22.

Can only speak personally but were it me, or a child of mine, I'd be encouraging them to stick with Ajax to set them up in a great way for the rest of their careers

Getting the chance to come to a huge club is an attraction for a player (no offence Ajax), especially at a younger age like that he will see some of his idols and maybe even get to train with them at some point.

But how many ever do make it to make that worthwhile? The amount of kids that go to a club like L'pool or Utd and have everything done for them/ the whole game tailored for them at that particular club, who get released at 18 and fall out of the game and have serious problems because they can't fend for themselves lower down and they have no life skills is frightening. As per a recent study, 2%, that's TWO percent, of all 16 year olds at English PL clubs make it to a full time pro-contract at 18 with that club. But the glamour of being associated with such clubs has kids and parents wanting to chase that dream.

Honestly, although things are slightly changing under Klopp throughout the whole club, if I were a parent with a promising kid and lets say L'pool and Crewe are in for him, I'm encouraging him to go to Crewe where I know he'll get a good upbringing and really appreciate having to work for things than having everything put on a plate for him at a big club and more than likely not making it there.

And some of the stats on kids that fall out of the game at 18 and either end up in prison through turning to crime to try sustain the lifestyle they were on at a big club compared to their peers in normal life; or end up suffering bad mental and social problems through both not being able to cope without football and having every last thing done for them is frightening.

And that's not to say no kids should be at the bigger clubs of course. But too many ultimately f themselves up by going purely for the glamour and are totally f when the clubs spit them out at the end of it and don't want to know when the kids no longer have use to them as many do.
