The Manchester United Thread

Do you think you can get away with that midfield + Mata on the wing? Would be interested to see Schneiderlin there in there instead of Herrera. He's playing well, but might be needed for the good of the team.

Provding you had Shaw, on the left one of Martial/Miki/Rashford, and Valencia playing, you could, they would provide the blistering pace and endless running for Mata's guile and intelligence. Schneiderelin is certainly being underused though, imo

I would've agreed with you if carrick was 26 or something but he's hasn't got much left in the tank.

It's Mourinho, if you're looking for long-term rewards you've gone to the wrong man. You guys need to focus on exactly it is that you want to achieve, and seeing as the manager is a pretty nonshiftable factor at this point, immediate success and consistently challenging for the title should be your best bet. Which means doing the best with what you have, even if it's not the best thing long term. You guys had time to do that, to speculate and say "it's just one more season" and you ****** it up. You're honestly not too far from saying "next year is our year!" at this point.

Both he and Carrick!

6 weeks: Reports coming out about Bailly injury after scan. 8 at the most

City (H)
Burnley (H)
Fener (A)
Swansea (A)
Arsenal (H)
Feyenoord (H)
West Ham (H)

Realistic target date December 4th, which is Everton (A).

We really should be fine over that fixture set.

I loved watching their reasoning evolve over the years.
"Time for The Chosen One to take over. Amazing players, amazing legacy."
"Ferguson won the league with this squad, Moyes is *****, shouldn't need money for transfers"
"This a rebuilding time, good squad but LvG needs time to get his philosophy into the players"
"The squad is pretty bad, Moyes didn't buy anyone good. LvG has to go though.
"The squad is awful, despite costing half a billion pounds. This is a rebuilding time."

I eagerly await: "Mourinho just wasn't the right person for us, but Tuchel understands the club and what it means to be United. He's like a better Klopp." or "we need someone who is United through and through, someone who lives and breathes the United way. Our own Guardiola. Ryan Giggs."

I feel this is harsh, yes Moyes was the chosen one by Fergie and obviously we as fans had to back him because of that. But I can honestly say that loads of fans doubted Moyes from the start and did not see him as the right appointment.

Im still baffled how any fan can call this squad awful but with a new manager it is always going to be a rebuild.

My my main problem with Mourinho all along even before he was appointed as I wasn't the greatest fan of his appointment is hat he doesn't suit United. We really needed a manager that would imprint a style onto us that is more progressive than LVG, as LvG laid the foundations very well in terms of organisation and defence but we couldn't get any further with him. Also his personality is really irking at times and I can't see players staying on his side for long if things continue to get worse. Next two months are absolutely vital, but especially the next two league games.

Been reading quite a bit from Utd fans about the manager and players not going over to them the end of the game and disappearing down the tunnel. Absolutely HATE that from footballers. You might be ****** off that you've jut got a 4 goal *** whooping but the very LEAST you should do is go over and thank the lads that have travelled to support you.

A little bit of respect and appreciation shouldn't be too much to ask in return for our commitment.

Probably too embarrassed.

Anyway despite the horrific loss we just got to move on now and back the players/manager to hopefully turn it around from this performance. No game is easy but Burnley at home next is favourable and then Swansea away. Opportunity to rest a few and play a few youngsters on Wednesday.

Well that just means Klopp didn't do his homework to exploit Valencia's side properly. And don't get me wrong here, I like Valencia a lot. He's tough, he's hard working, and it's impressive that he was able to transition into a new position in his late late 20s.

But ultimately the guy is not a defender, and when faced with really good players he is lost.

Valencia is a one trick pony whose one trick was found out ages ago. Hard working one trick pony but still ...

One trick pony but he doesn't need to be anymore than that because of his new position.

Shame, because I'd say he's actually almost ideal to play next to Pogba in a midfield 3 if you have an aggressive DM behind them.

Which I am convinced Jose could mould TFM/Tuanzebe into an aggressive DM, surprised he has not tried that already. It's not going to be something that works straight away but worth trying surely. Then I remember I just set myself up for the Jose doesn't play youngsters.

Thought it was interesting that TFM went straight into midfield against Fenerbache.

No way with Tuanzebe he is destined to be a top CB. TFM I would love though!

No reason not to see Tuanzebe on bench at least now with Bailly out. Rather him than ****** Jones or Rojo.
IMO he is definitely ahead of Jones. Rojo will be in the squad for his versatility, for this season anyway. In the next few years would like to see

DDG
New RB - Bailly-Tuanzebe - Shaw
TFM
Pogba-New CM
Mky - Rashford- Martial

Would love new CM to be Weigl not sure about RB. O Conner, Warren have been tipped for great things by **** and Joyce. Be more than happy to stick with Darmian ATM. Or you could swap TFM and Weigl.

Very interesting, and many would so totally on point, read from Tony Evo:

Jose Mourinho must stamp authority on Manchester United like Jurgen Klopp has done at Liverpool - ESPN FC

Has Jose Mourinho lost his touch in era of Klopp, Guardiola and Conte?

The main job of a manager is to motivate players. The best can pull off this trick year after year. When this ability fails then careers begin to drift. But what happens when a manager loses the knack of motivating himself?

Jose Mourinho looks tired. The man who arrived at Chelsea 12 years ago with a grin and an urge to cause mischief has gone, replaced by an older version who seems to have forgotten that football is fun. It does not appear to matter whether his Manchester United side are on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing at Chelsea, frustrating Anfield by shutting down Liverpool or trouncing the champions Leicester City 4-1. Win, lose or draw, the game seems to have become a joyless experience to the Special One.

Unchanged line up v Arsenal: Johnstone, Williams, Poole, Tuanzebe, Riley, Harrop, Willock, Redmond, El Fitouri, Olosunde, McTominay
U23s kicking off now! Demi Mitchell replaces McTominay up top due to injury.
