This would be perfect game for Mkhitaryan to come back in. After all Burnley are the worst team form wise playing away from home.

Jose Mourinho has suggested Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs time to adapt to English football, but the Manchester United manager has backed his signing to become a top player for the Reds.

The Armenian has just featured since the Manchester derby on 10 September and that is partly due to him suffering an injury while representing his homeland in the recent international break.

Mourinho confirmed during Friday’s press conference at the Aon Training Complex that Mkhitaryan is no longer injured, telling reporters that he is working hard on his fitness behind the scenes.

“He is not injured,” the manager said. “Sometimes I confuse the word 'fit' in the English language. Sometimes you can say that it is 'not injured', but you could also say that you are in great condition and ready to compete. That is different for me as we use different words in Portuguese for the different situations. Mkhitaryan is not injured, he is training with the team 100 per cent.

Asked if it takes some players longer to adapt to the English game, Mourinho continued: “I think so, yes. Some players find it very easy whereas others need more time. They need time to feel the intensity, the aggression, the game without the ball and the competitiveness.

“The realities are often different, particularly in terms of the competitiveness. It doesn't matter who you are against, you have to play at the highest level otherwise you will not be able to do it. Micki needs time to become the top player he knows he can be.”

Mourinho expressed his confidence in Mkhitaryan when expanding on the topic that dominated Friday’s press conference, pointing to two of his former players at Chelsea and Real Madrid who required time blossom in their new surroundings. “I think Micki will work here for sure,” he said.

“I don't like to speak about players from other clubs because I don't want to be misinterpreted, but I don't think he'll mind. A player who had a problem to play when he first arrived was Willian. He went through a process and then, after a few months, he became a top player. Then, when we won the championship, he was phenomenal and still is. That is just an example.

“Similarly, Di Maria had to learn a lot about his game when he came into Madrid from Portugal. Sometimes this is what happens. It happens with defenders, but it is often easier for them to adapt than attackers. Some go straight to success and others it takes more time.

"In Micky's case the process was interrupted by injury, which does not help the process of evolution. Being out for a month meant he has had to go through the process of getting match fit, then once he has that he needs the competitive level to do it. We believe him and, sooner or later, there will be no problem.”

Paul Pogba is presenting a "big problem" for Jose Mourinho and has "no positional sense," former Manchester United midfielder Johnny Giles has told Newstalk.


Giles, who won the 1963 FA Cup with United while playing under Sir Matt Busby, was also critical of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic after United's difficult start to the season.


"I don't think Jose Mourinho is convinced about anything that he's doing at Manchester United," Giles said. "You've got the Rooney problem, you've got the Pogba problem, you've got the Ibrahimovic problem.


"I think Rooney has taken all the publicity on what's wrong but the big glaring thing that's wrong is Pogba. Pogba was bought as the complete midfield player. Mourinho said he's the complete midfield player, he can control the game, he can do this, he can do that. He can't. He's a big problem.


"I think Ibrahimovic is a problem because, if Ibrahimovic is not scoring a goal a game, he's not justifying his position. Early on, he was scoring but he hasn't scored for six matches now and I'm not sure he's going to score that many goals for Manchester United."

Mourinho initially used Pogba as one of the deeper midfielders but has pushed him forward recently, including in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Manchester City in the EFL Cup, when the France international produced another unconvincing display.


Giles said: "I think he needs to find a position where he doesn't have any real responsibility, a bit like the [Eric] Cantona position when he was playing at Manchester United.


"I think he has ability but he certainly doesn't have the midfielder's ability to control a game because he has no positional sense."

Think he's wrong about Pogba tbh. I watched numerous games with Juve even when Pirlo or Marchisio wasn't playing and Pogba was disciplined and helped dictate tempo, but in a settled side and formation he will do the same. People say he was poor France I disagree, he was following instructions for the deeper role he was asked to play. Give him time not a few months and the right environment and the Pogba neysayers will be eating there words! Same goes for Zlatan. Just because he's not scoring a goal a game, doesn't mean he's playing poor. His link up play has still been good, and his work rate has been good also. In a couple of games his hold up play has been a bit poor. But overall he ain't been playing bad. Plus the service ain't been the greatest either.

I think everyone is expecting too much, there is no such thing as a complete all round midfielder. The fee has put huge pressure on him and he'll never deliver that expectation. But I'm still confident we have a great player in the making and he has blown hot/cold so far. I know I've made this comparison before but he very much does remind me of Yaya Toure but without the clinical shooting at the moment. But I'd say one benefit Pogba has over Toure is he has more skill on the ball and he has more positional awareness. Saying Pogba has no positional awareness is quite frankly just stupid, it made me disregard that article straight away.

For what it's worth on the earlier posts, in my opinion, Johnny Giles, Liam Brady & in particular Eamon Dunphy (The main Irish pundits/analysts) all talk as much **** as one each other... they haven't evolved with the game at all, still stuck in the 70's. Dunphy slated Ronaldo year after year in his United days, just a show pony, etc... so I wouldn't pass a great deal of heed from either of them. But entitled to their "expert" opinions, they are.
 


Ft 1-1. Good game of football. Goss,Willock,Osolunde,Riley were good especially Goss. If he can get back to his best could be a great replacement for Carrick!​

A bit odd for Liam Brady especially as he had a decent coaching career. He was director of the Arsenal youth academy and got 1 or 2 decent managerial jobs.

In fairness if I had to name one of them that talks the least ****, it'd probably be him, but that's only if I was pushed to give an answer - he still talks a lot of waffle majority of the time. That panel are only good to watch for their constant bickering among one another and controversial opinions, it's like a soap opera, but I wouldn't be tuning in for any analytical insight.
