The Manchester United Thread

Enjoyed an article about how Jose doesn't like Luke Shaw, despite him starting 10 games this season, while also having injuries.

From something as good as Marcotti, to that.

Yep. According to reports today he's trying to drive Smalling and Shaw out. Won a game so obviously had to find something to have a dig about.

Presume it's all related to José inferring, without directly naming, them being fit enough to play if they'd of toughed it out?

Yeah he wants brave players who will fight for every ball no matter what. If only there was someone like that in the squad...

Pretty much. Jose says x, "OMG HE HATES THAT PLAYER"

The only player who genuinely needs looking into is Miki. The rest is drivel

Something appears to of gone badly wrong between those two doesn't it?

Pointless speculating what as we're not privy to what goes on a day to day basis. But the evasiveness/ misleading things of Mourinho on it, then not even having him involved as part the 18 most weeks, even now he's back fully training; you have to be thinking something has gone seriously awry between the two.

I thought Mourinho actually asked for Mkhitaryan in the first place?

Or am I muddling that up with some other player?

As far as I know yes. While we was waiting for Pogba, Jose kept saying that he gave Woodward 4 targets and he's got 3. Just waiting for the 4th (Pogba). So from that I take it he asked for him.

Jose specifically asked for Miki. I wonder if it's less something going wrong, and more Miki having personal struggles. Club did the same for martial for a couple of weeks last season.

Wasn't there Arsenal interests? I wouldn't put it past Mourinho to ask specifically for Mkhitarian just to **** with Wenger.

This is what I think is happening. Miki is having trouble personally and isn't in the right frame of mind. Although wouldn't it be a good idea to actually say that instead of having people speculate?

The rhetoric he is using to justify Mkhi's exclusion is extraordinarly similar to the one he used to justify Filipe Luis' exclusion. Both were simply 'not ready' and 'had to do more' however vague that sounds.

I am not sure why you all are trying to suggest that the papers printed the articles without any basis or justification. Jose made a clear inference that some players like Shaw and Smalling did not want to play through the pain barrier and criticized them for it. So its not like the papers pulled this story out of thin air. Its also not the first time that it has been suggested that there is some tension between Jose and Shaw.

Thats the problem with Mourinho. He becomes the story at the expense of the club. Thats what makes him different from SAF even though both have their run-ins with FA and refs.

Yeah and the first time, Shaw said there was nothing it.

Papers overblowing the story =/= you making yourself the story.

Be interesting to see how much game time Smalling and Shaw get over the internationals.

I agree that Mourinho does not make himself the story. He just becomes the story due to the nature of the media.

There are definitely times where he doesn't need to speak, always been critical of that. But it doesn't mean he's then at fault because some journalists are a joke.

I personally can't stand the man but come on mate. To go from him questioning players toughness to that being spun to 'he's trying to force them out of the club' is **** poor journalism that is completely uncalled for.

I can empathise here. We went through, and continue to go through, exactly the same thing with Sturridge. Klopp questioned his toughness early days to play/ train through knocks (which has lead to a completely different attitude to Daniel and his availability which is at it's highest in years); and that has just grown in continued, almost weekly bullshit that there's a problem between the two/ the manager doesn't fancy him as he isn't a regular starter right now/ Sturridge isn't happy et all. Which is all agenda driven, made up B/S. Sturridge is killed saying he's loving life and you can't stop the manager gushing about Daniel when he's asked.

To suggest Mourinho wants the pair gone with absolutely no basis behind it is nothing short of unjustified, agenda driven journalism.

Tbh, manager shouldn't go around media questioning toughness of a 20 year old kid who just came off a year long injury. I don't know what Jose was thinking lashing out at Shaw like that.

That's another issue again and I don't think many would disagree.

But it's a massive stretch to go from that to him 'trying to force the boy out of the football club.'

That's amateur journalism.

Mourinho on Shaw, is very similar to Klopp on Sturridge. There's a debate as to how you handle players coming back from injury. Some need an arm, maybe some need a gentle prod. But he hardly lashed our at either.
