The Manchester United Thread

Looks like a lot of clubs round the world are already offering help to Chapeco club in the form of money, loan players, etc, whilst some Brazilian Clubs are calling for the club to be exempt from relegation for the next 3 seasons. It's a sad day for all football and for sports journalism (we must not forget that not only were club players and officals on the flight but sports journalists as well).

Absolutely. There was a tweet I saw before the game last night that was just heart wrenching of the changies with all the empty lockers and a few grief striking players just sat down that hadn't travelled.

Great that the club they were due to play the final immediately requested they be handed the victory by default.

Terrible tragedy you just couldn't imagine.

The really chilling thing is the press conference where the coach says if I were to die I would be a happy man.

Its an absolute tragedy, I actually saw these play when I had my time in Brazil. There's no words really just hope the football family helps them out and bands together.

Presuming you beat West Ham, and I'll be real surprised if you don't, particularly if they make changes, I think out of what's left I'd rather Utd the semi's.

Hull would guarantee you a final day out all things being equal, but it'd be two ***** games and Hull's a **** place to go. Grey and dull with not much of anything. And with the current stay-away protests and not increasing away allocations, chances are they'll try make it back by bumping up the ticket prices again. Defo don't want a trip to Arsenal or Southampton on a Wednesday night. (Or West Ham if they did win tonight.).

So help me for saying this but I'll take Utd the semi draw please out of what's left.

Manumad, a minutes silence before the game.

I mentioned us being a rich club and one who suffered the same huge loss on purpose. Also on purpose I mentioned we should do something substantial. Minutes silence etc is all very nice but lets be frank it does fck all to help.

I think that UTD especially could spare a couple of million to donate (or give through entering into an affiliation with Chapeco or whatever) so that a proud little club which has been obliterated does not have to fold.

Agree with all of these verdicts.

I think the otamendi handball was a clear peno and I think sending mourinho to the stands for kicking a water bottle was ridiculous. only happened cos it was mou.

I didn't know they gave a verdict on the Mourinho sending off, I thought it was just the simulation from Pogba.

I agree it was harsh, I said this as soon as it happened:

If Mourinho was sent to the stand for kicking the bottle, it's harsh. If he was sent to the stand for giving the assistant abuse, then I'm ****** off about it (with him)

They did. Both in that piece and a linked referees piece: Referee's column: Arsenal could have conceded three penalties - and six other controversial decisions rated | Squawka News | Opinion

Knew they'd had a serious clampdown on that sort of aggression. You just can't cross that line anymore.

He's been pretty fortunate to escape with just one game given the accumulation.

Yet another really strong line-up from Mourinho, say what you like about him but he doesn't disrespect the "lesser" competitions at all.

West Ham: Adrian, Reid, Cresswell, Feghouli, Kouyate, Obiang, Ogbonna, Fletcher, Payet, Antonio, Fernandes

Randolph won't be haunting us again this time. Also Reid has returned from suspension.

Mkhitaryan to net his first United goal tonight. Heard it here.

I would NEVER class the League Cup as a "lesser" competition personally. ;). :).
