Hererra isn't good enough if United want to be elite. He shouldn't be near the first team. At best a 4th choice CM. Offers nothing in the final third and he's limited in the first phase. Good to include young talent but the reality is that some aren't good enough. Rashford is good and Jesse Lingard is one of the most unique English talents in recent years. Fosu-Mensah may become a fine versatile backup.

He's not 'elite.' And you have to have 22 (perceived) 'elite' players.

Some players like this can hide tactical deficiencies. Hererra has to an extent with his counterpressing because at times, United have been slow in transition. Fair play to Mourinho who's improved this in his short stint.

I'd say he's just tidy on the ball. He is ok under the press but there are lots of players who'd be better in the role. Kevin Kampl would be a nice upgrade but Dahoud would fit nicely imo.

His attacking output is pretty mediocre. United can do better. Fans need to ditch the sentimentality.

He only offers nothing in the final third if you discount the 14 goals he's scored and his 15 assists in just under 100 games for the club, he is involved going forward and contributes a lot in covering the defence despite only being 4th in interceptions.

Also how many of these lots could you name that would be willing to join United.

Was talking about an elite team though any of those players would help United compete at he highest level. They would all be significant upgrades over Hererra. Adam Lallana would have been perfect if he wasn't at Liverpool. Pretty much all of those players would improve Barcelona.

With everything you just said, You must also think that Arsenal also need a complete overhaul of their squad to compete at the highest level.

Considering Man Utd are only 2 points off from Arsenal at the moment, and its probably biased, but are playing much more exciting football than Arsenal right now.

Why do you keep going on about him in the attacking third? Thats like saying Carrick offers nothing in the attacking third. Its not his job. Under LVG he was used in a more attacking way and he provided quite a few goals and assists. IIRC he went months without even having a shot off target. Now Jose is using more as a bridge between defense and attack. He's basically Carrick with slightly more attacking play. Carrick sits, Herrera is the bridge, and Pogba is more attacking.

I personally think Herrera has been one of our best players this season. Quietly going about his business keeping the midfield ticking over. Also considering he's playing in a slightly new position to him tactically, he can only get better in tht role. Im not saying he's going to be number 1 in that position, but I think your being way too critical of him. Your argument only seems to be about attacking, but thats not what he's in the team for really.
