The Manchester United Thread

I was surprised the lineup was as strong as it was tonight given the 3-0 lead and the final on Sunday. I was expecting Rashford to lead the line like at Blackburn (and scoring) with Martial on the left (pre injury) and Lingard/Young on the right. Schweinsteiger with Fellaini and one of Mata/Mikhitaryan in the 10. Darmian RB. Cant complain about fixture pileups then start Ibra, Pogba, Mata, Mkhitaryan and arguably our best CB pairing in Smalling and Bailly. You would expect every one of them starting Sunday (except Mkhitaryan now) so why play all of them in what was basically a nothing game being 3-0 up? They played well first game and could have had a couple but was anyone really expecting them to get 3 or 4? Mkhitaryan injured, Pogba and Ibra playing 90 and Mata playing over an hour. Really dont understand selections sometimes. Watch us get twatted Sunday and Jose moans about playing in the Europa.
Was right to pick a strong team and get the tie won early even despite being 3 up. A weakened team could of been tricky with an early goal. We have 3 days to get ready for the cup game, more than enough time. Not like it was a hard game in the end anyway. Mky injury was unlucky and not serious anyway by the sounds of things. We will be fine for Sunday!

Thats why I would start a weaker team and leave the big players on the bench just incase. Even after their performance last week I couldnt see them getting 3 tonight and thats without us getting a goal. The game was over after 10 minutes but still only took off Mata and Carrick through choice. Starting with a weaker team and throwing on 3 first 11 players if need be would have been better than starting 7 of your first 11, 1 going off through injury and subbing 2. Especially seeing as Schweinsteiger could have and should have started ahead of Carrick and played 90 minutes. Just cant understand it.

Carrick didn't go off by choice it was through a calf problem. Still don't see what the problem is. From what I've read and seen the injuries are not serious anyway. You can't not just play people invade they might get injured. I'm glad Mou picked a strong team and kept the winning momentum going!

If Carrick and/Or Mkhi doesn't play on Sunday, I wonder who'll tkae that spot with Pogba/Herrera in midfield.. Fellain? Lingard? Schweinsteiger?

I'm hoping for Schweinsteiger!

If we play 433 can see Herrera playing deep and Fellaini playing next to Pogba, letting Pogba get forward more. Or if we play 4231 can see Mata playing off Zlatan and Lingard or Rashford playing RW. Not a disaster either way.

Yeah agree, can't wait for the game!

Me too! Just get the job done anyway any score line and get Mourinho second piece of Silverware in the bag for the season :) then on with the change of FA Cup and Europa League glory. And top 4 finish. Could be a great end of season. Bring it on(6)

Regarding Mkhitaryan's injury.
Something in the back of my mind thinks Jose is playing with Southampton a bit ;)
(only a small feeling mind you... But it's there).

We're in a good moment, no doubt, but lets not get carried away, there is a lot that needs to be done before we call this a successful season. Winning on Sunday is a start, Southampton are a good team, we'll need to be at our best.

just a matter of time before he leaves, will be gone by july

By July, can't see why not but with a testimonial match, some good champagne, Eddy's wine and mince pie and what not. But I just can't see him leaving by next Tuesday (cos that's when the Chinese transfer window closes).

He's had his testimonial already.

Telegraph, Gardian and Spanish media saying-

Atletico have told us they want Griezmann to stay one more season with them, but have also lined up Lacazette as his potential replacement this summer. It also says we are prepared to trigger his release clause, but hope to sign him for less when the negotiations begin.

BBC radio just said Rooney agent will visit 4 clubs to try closing a deal for this month. But if not definately in the summer.

BBC Radio 5 live - 5 live Sport, City v United: Manchester's Cold War

At 19:30 BT, an 1 hour and half long discussion will be on BBC Radio 5 live:

Once it was only about trophies and derby day wins. Now the battle to be the biggest club in Manchester has gone outside the stadium and into the streets and parks beyond. A fight not only for the best footballing talent in town but for the heart and minds of the city's kids too.
We hear from those on the front line - youth coaches, scouts, academy directors, parents - about how children as young as four are being wooed and won, and how an entente at the top level is masking an increasingly intense rivalry on the playing pitches and playgrounds.

Will be interesting to hear what these people have to say, maybe we can get some discussion about the subject in here as well.

The problem is Jose crying about fixture congestion then playing most of his best 11 in a game where we are 3-0 up and just days before a cup final. I really don't see the need or point of it.
