The Manchester United Thread

Well, we're a lot more stable now compared to when we met chelsea during that 4-0 demolition so it should be a good game.

I would also like to know who are those people that said Zlatan will not work, because everybody here was saying Zlatan should thrive against ****** PL defenses.

The only doubts were about his fitness, and most of us expected him to be rotated with Rashford. So can we drop the act about how any of you predicted that Zlatan will turn out fit enough at 35 to start almost every game, because you sure as **** did not.

No one has said **** about Zlatan's fitness Tyton, only that some people thought he counldnt score goals. He may not be hiting 50 in a season, but he is on 24 already and we have 3 months left

I think zlatan will hit about 34 goals by the end of the season.

Well apparently we only won 4-0 because we scored 4 goals on the counter attack anyway so doesn't count lol.

Really looking forward to this tie, no doubt will be/should be tighter just because Utd have found a settled line-up.

So far Zlatan does what he did his entire career - banging them goals against **** teams. There's a reason why he almost guarantees a league title, you win the league by crushing the low and mid table teams, and he always shows up in those games.

The big question for you is whether he will show up against all the heavy hitters you have lined up at the end of the season.

He scored against City and Liverpool, didnt play against Arsenal, caused Spurs problems, and should have scored.

we've got better as a side so I'm not worried about him against the heavy hitters

Wouldn't go that far, but it was a comedy of errors, hello Chris Smalling.

Take nothing away from Chelsea though, they're the last team I'd want to give an advantage to and you punished us deservedly so.

The Chelsea game was a real strange one. We were stunned by the early Pedro goal, which threw our entire plan out the window (no doubt Mourinho wanted something similar to Anfield, stay solid and try nick a goal) and it just went complete and utter pearshaped. We played right into Conte's hands by being forced to take the game to them, ultimately being picked off on numerous occasions (not just counter attacks) and efficiently punished. Every time Chelsea went forward that day they looked dangerous. Still don't quite think it was a 4-0 game, felt we had our moments, but hey, that team are more than likely going on to lift the PL title, and that was our last defeat (willing to forgive the controversial Hull defeat as we were still the team that done the job over 180 and booked our Wembley place) so it's definitely been onwards and upwards since then.

We're definitely a much steadier ship since then with a lot more confidence in what we're doing. Touch wood no injuries from both sides, and it has the potential to be a cracker!

but we still lost to hull in the 2nd leg yes we won over 2 legs but we did lose the 2nd

That's true, we 'officially' lost a game since Chelsea. And as bonkers as I look saying this, I simply don't count it. Considering we won the tie, and in truth, probably half switched off after the Pogba goal, knowing we had an arm and a leg in the final... booked our final spot, and were in a celebratory mood after the game, I just don't really count it as a defeat.

But to make my opinion less controversial, Chelsea was our last league defeat. ;)

And you may thank your favourite keeps that ever graced Anfield representing your beloved club; Mignolet ;)

Being 6 foot 5, is Zlatan the best 'big man' ever?

Not gonna go through the archives, but he most probably is. The only other memorable big guy I can recall from the top of my mind is Jan Koller.
EDIT: Oh, and Luca Toni. That guy was tearing it in his good days. What a striker. Zlatan gets ahead of him because of his consistency.

Hey Mr Milan man! Marco was 6'2. But for injury and all that ..... And another Swede who was even taller, the clubs all time top goalscorer and probably the greatest Swedish sportsman to ever live, Gunnar Nordahl, was the best there's ever been if you ever listen to any old Milan fans/ Italian journalists of the time.

Modern day big guy greats well over 6' who compare are what, Van Nistelrooy? Drogba? Batigoal?

Hard to compare top players from different era's but reading up on Nordahl (listed between 6'3/ 6'4) he takes some beating doing what he did in that period of ultra defensive Italian football where strikers got kicked to F.

My favourite United striker is and probably always will be Ruud Van Nistelrooy, that guy was just something else. His sixth sense for the right place in the box and poacher instincts, I've never seen someone come close to him in that regard. Plus so lethal when he had any kind of chance.
