The Manchester United Thread

He has more than enough quality needed for the games he would be used in. Bottom half teams in the league when the team needs rotating, League Cup, FA Cup depending on the draw, the odd Champions League game results in the group permitting or even starting Europa League games if t came to it.

The way the transfer market is going, and the money we have, teams are going to want an arm and a leg even for squad players, so why spend upwards of £20m for somebody to sit on the bench when we have our own more than capable of doing the job when required?

Debatable to be honest because Lingard has been used in many big games this season by Mourinho. We all know he seems to favour those work hard, so in that sense he has been picked a lot of the time ahead of other players.

He can do a job... kind of.... just not a very good one... if you want an attacking player who can fill the space and not offer much going forward I guess he's good.

You've just answered your own question. He's been used in big games because of his work rate and doesn't offer much going forward. None of the team offers much going forward in the big games because thats how Jose sets us up. Be hard to break down and get a draw or nick a goal on the counter with pace.

Plenty of games this season, especially at home, Lingard has ripped teams apart, like the rest of the team has, but we've not took our chances. Lingard has provided many good assists but if they dont get put away thats not his problem. the only thing he can be guilty of is not taking the good chances hes had himself, but you could say that about all the forward players.

we all know lingard isnt top class but hes a united boy,has come through the system and those are the kind of players who tend to give that extra bit of effort which in some games can be crucial.

Sisto much better though as a player, gave Valencia a run for his money both games, took him on the outside and beat him to the byline and delivered some great balls into the box. How often you see Lingard beat a man to the byline and deliver in a good ball?

Plus Sisto can also go inside and cause problems, as we saw.
Different players tbh.

Yes but at the same time, when you need a goal or when we have that odd chance away from home against a top 6 side, that extra bit of quality can be crucial. I guess there are two ways of looking at it in that sense.

United fans naturally like him because he's local and came through the system. But if we are looking at it from a totally neutral perspective, I think we can question how he is ever good enough to be near a United first team.

I admire his dedication and he has a knack for scoring at Wembley which is always good, but every time I see him play I am questioning him moreso than most other players in a United shirt.

Is Warrington 'local?' Kind of a no-mans hodgepodge half-way between both City's.

VERY wool. VERY weird place.

Back to your discussion .....

Hes good enough atm because of injuries, players out of form and the situation we find ourselves in needing to rest players. Think we can all agree that after better players have come in and the ones here step up. He will defo not be starting as many games next season. But will be a very good option to have in the squad.

Bank my house he still start Lingard in final and bench one of Mkhi or Martial. Rightly or wrongly, I guess we see at the end.

Would start the Final with

Romero
Valencia-Jones-Blind-Darmian
Herrera
Fellaini-Pogba
Mky-Rashford-Martial

Interesting, I'd have Smalling over Jones personally. I have no idea why other than I rely still more on Smalling despite his fuckups this season, Jones hasn't looked much better than his usual self.

Other than that I debate Carrick instead of Fellaini, but logically you need that outlet against a team like Ajax. So I think Fellaini will be played up with Rashford somewhere.

I've been iffy on Lingard too, complete match winner one day, anonymous the next. But he has got definitely got talent in his own right. Doesn't score enough but pops up with big goals, good personality to have in the camp (little things like that are underappreciated, he's the class clown at the club, very liked), links up well with teammates and particularly Rashford, knows where he is in the line (happy to be a squad player), fills the Homegrown rule, and leaves nothing on the pitch. All in all, no point getting rid when there probably aren't any players out there that tick all of those boxes.

The reason he's been playing a lot lately is because of the injury to Zlatan (Rashford would've been predominantly wide if Zlatan was still fit & firing), no doubt his 'squad' role will be in more effect next season if we have a big summer

Just starting to watch the u23s vs Spurs at OT. Said no Tuanzebe as he will likely start against saints. And Mourinho is there to look at players for the last 2 league games.

Good win for the u23s 3-2. End to end game in pretty terrible weather. Players i think would of impressed Jose. Periera, Olosunde, Kehinde, Bohui, Harrop, Warren. Good cameos off the bench from Buffonge, Dearnley, Hamilton. Poole, CBJ, Redmond, Willock very dissapionting. Gribbin was ok trying to make things happen. Harrop with the hat trick. 3 great goals tbf!

If Fellaini does leave this Summer. We know for sure that means game time for TFM and Periera next season. As there is no sign of a new deal for Carrick and he might take a coaches role in the u23s while doing his badges. Leaving us with Pogba and Herrera as the only recognise CMs. Unless we can get Fabinho and someone fairly cheap like Matuidi as well. Pogba, Herrera, Fabinho, Matuidi, TFM, Periera would give us great options and all offer different things.
