God. Lee Martin. I just mentioned him and a colleague replied at the same time 'that NY's day debacle with Hooper in nets'

The only thing I remember of him outside the Cup Final goal was getting wallopped 3-1 to a terrible Utd side, with such 'greats' as Ralph Milne, New Year's day when even Russel frigging Beardsmore scored before he disappeared without a trace!

True, but this is 1990ish? Snapping a tendon back then is seriously bad injury, and we we didn't have the strength and conditioning we have now. Lucky not have seen his career end there and then tbh.
 
Already nervy ahead of Wednesday, god knows what I'll be like on the evening on the final.

This Ajax team will be fresh, full of energy and will come at us intensively. They've got a lot of pace in their forward areas as well so I do fear us coping with that as lets face it our backline will be makeshift at best, especially at CB.

I fear it will be a sit deep and nick a goal job from Jose, but logically speaking do we have much other way to go against this Ajax team? We won't out-play them so.....

You really are bigging this Ajax team up a tad to much. They've been woeful this season at times. And have been dire when the pressure is on. There a very young side and it's definately shown a lot this season.

And Utd have been very underwhelming, to say the least, this European run. Particularly the knock-outs. Doubt the Dutch are running scared at all for Wednesday either.

You'd make Utd favourites purely on the ridiculous financial disparity between the two squads if nothing else. But in reality, I make this a real even, hard to call final. Mourinho's gonna' do what Mourinho always reverts to. Particularly in big games. So I can't see it being pretty at all. But I really think Utd need to get 2 ahead early like the League Cup Final as you'd think Ajax would be much the stronger side second half.

Even if United get 1 goal ahead I think this young Ajax side will be under a lot of pressure, 2 ahead and it could be game over. How often do you even see a side come back against a Mourinho team in a final to recover it? Hardly any come to mind.

Still, I'm ******** bricks either way, although Mourinho has an excellent record vs Ajax. But all good records come to an end at some point, so who knows.
 
Looking forward to this final far more than Madrid- Juventus.

But then I would have been more interested in that had Monaco made the final. Ajax are a just a slightly less exciting version of them.

Wont be pretty I'm already expecting a snooze fest ;) Don't think either team is scared of each other. Just think we have the better quality and even more important bigger experience.
 
United are hardly a side lacking in energy. Especially now they've all been rested.

Was thinking the same. Blind, Damian, Valencia, Smalling, Jones more than good enough! Don't think we've ever been exposed by pace. Just individual mistakes during games. But Ajax are woeful at the back.

Lucky them, 'cause you're terrible up front :D Still going for a 1-0 win for United.
 
Wednesdays all about winning. Not expecting anything prettier than what we've been seeing the past few months, perhaps even uglier, but it's absolutely vital to just get over the line. Do the job, guarantee CL footy, and have a big summer.
 
Tell ya what the ore season tour looks a bit tasty! Then add to that Madrid or Juve again in the Super Cup if we win the EL. Can't wait!
