The Manchester United Thread

Mourinho said will have to wait on see for Fellaini next week he felt a problem. Also said Periera will start in goal against Palace and Romero against Ajax, and De Gea will return for the first pre season match against LA Galaxy.

He's just said he's playing Perrera and a good few kids Sunday.

Which could lead to finishing out with 6 games without a win. (Already Mourinho's longest ever non-win streak the PL apparently at 5.) Not a good confidence booster to be taking into next week.

There's two ways of looking at it and he'll stand and fall by next Wednesday on this year.

But going in with no momentum is a risky game to play.

Tbf most people do say it all goes out the window for a final.

Can't say I'm confident, but in all reality Ajax aren't all that, so hopefully we can beat them. It's as good an opportunity as you'll ever get to be in the CL, so if we don't it's purely our own fault, no excuses.

Talking about goalkeepers and no one mentions Oblak

Fools

Also I think and expect the nature of the football to change again next season. Jose doesn't trust the centre backs outside of bailly, and *** result it affects the full backs and thus our width.

I still don't think De Gea is going personally, these rumours always circulate around now.

What has changed? Are Real Madrid suddenly going to cough up what they need to? Considering how Perez is as stubborn as he is I doubt that.

We're not going to lower our demands either, so.... what's budging? Nothing in my eyes, I expect him to still be here unless something monumentally changes.

He would be top of the pile for me! Suppose that would possibly hinge on Griezmann no? Atletico not wanting to lose both.

Its not really rumours is it. He would of been off last season if not for a clerical or fax machine **** up!

If we win the EL and get Champions League footy it will be a decent first season on the project, however, not only do results have to be better next season, we have to do it in a different, devastating manner. Far too cautious atm, will give him the benefit of the doubt in maybe he just completely trust what he has, but I can't help but feel we were almost half deceived by the attacking footy we played in the earlier months, because we didn't get the goal on numerous occasions, so we never saw the negative shitfest that followed it. Scoring & shutting up shop/ATTEMPTING to shut up shop just isn't the United way, or any way for a top club with the title aspirations for that matter.

A few will disagree I know, but it's the harsh truth

It's the payoff when you employ him though, isn't it? It's not like it's anything new his career or unexpected.

It won't be pretty 9 times out of 10 but he get's results. It's when he stops getting results like the last couple of years that it all unravels and fans/ players stop buying in and accepting it.

He's backed himself by putting everything on next Wednesday so he'll have to deal with the justified criticism of the above if he fails to deliver the win.

Put yourself in De Gea's situation. If fax machine didn't malfunction, in on likelihood he'd have one Champions Cup and next week he'll be battling for another. There's just no way he is satisfied - at all - with how things turned out.

What motivation - other than a massive pay rise - would Oblak have for leaving Atletico? And even more importantly, why would Atleti agree to sell him when they'd not only lose their world class keeper, but clear the way for their rivals to upgrade their own?

You have answered your own question really. Massive pay rise! And to play for a bigger club no matter how you cut it we are. And they wouldn't have a choice if we activated his clause.

  • EARLY TEAM NEWS FOR CRYSTAL PALACE

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has guaranteed there will be some fresh faces in the line-up when the Reds take on Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Paul Pogba also set to return.

The boss name-checked several youngsters and confirmed Joel Pereira will make his Premier League debut in goal against Sam Allardyce's Eagles at Old Trafford. Demi Mitchell, Matty Willock, Josh Harrop and Zak Dearnley are also in line to make their senior bows at any level as none of them have even had a loan spell away from the club.

Pogba will get a run out in the final Premier League game of a demanding season after being granted compassionate leave due to the sad death of his father.

"Sunday will be a big day for the kids because lots of them are going to play," said the boss. "I hope the crowd enjoys that, in spite of it not being a big, strong Manchester United team.

"I hope to play Joel against Crystal Palace. He’s a very good goalkeeper so we’re in safe hands."

When asked about when David De Gea will next play, Mourinho replied: "I think in the first match against LA Galaxy in pre-season in Los Angeles [on 15 July]. David is the top [keeper] in the world and obviously we want to keep the top [goalie] in the world.

"I don't go with 'if he leaves' as I hope he doesn't leave. I think we need two top goalkeepers and a top young goalkeeper and this is what we have in this moment. David is David and Sergio is Sergio. Spain's national-team keeper and Argentina's national-team keeper.

"For me, it's amazing to have it. Everything went very smoothly during the season. Everyone was accepting my decisions and I'm really happy with both of them. I'm also very happy and, the next match, Joel is playing his first match in the Premier League. The kid also deserves this."

Mourinho went on to reveal virtually all of his squad news for the weekend during his press conference at St Mary's, after the draw with Southampton.

"I don't tell you," he initially insisted, but then added: "I will bring Mitchell, he was on the bench. [Scott] McTominay, he was on the bench. Of course, Axel [Tuanzebe]. Of course, Eric Bailly and [Matty] Willock will come too. Josh Harrop will come. Zachary [Dearnley] will come.

"Pogba will come because Paul is not training or playing since his dad passed away. I will put two or three of my boys rotating during the game, making some changes to save them, but I need to give a little structure of four or five of my boys to give some stability to the kids. I don't think, by themselves, they will be in [the right] conditions to play the game."

Isn't his clause 100 million though, doubt we will spend that on a GK

...... And they wouldn't have a choice if we activated his clause.

Depends on the actual clause. For example, that's why Arsenals £1 bid over Suarez's £40 million release didn't trigger it as it wasn't an 'automatic' release. Contracts are complex and football clubs sneaky.

Then of course even if it is triggered with the bid having to be accepted, it's still down to the player to agree to move.

Not always as straight forward as just meeting the valuation of the clause.

All Spanish clubs have to include minimum fee release clauses in their contracts and the law has changed so they are far easier to trigger so if you are willing to activate the clause the club has to hope they stay

90 mins of my life I won't get back. Worrying thing is that at least 6 of those who featured will start in the EL final. Very very lacklustre. I appreciate there's nothing to play for league wise, but ffs there are places up for grabs. Good game Romero & two centre halves, I reckon Jones comes up trumps in the "audition", wouldn't be surprised if both start tbh.
Lol. I'm actually glad I missed the game.

Aerial duels won in the Premier League this term: Michael Keane (149) Chris Smalling (46) Marcos Rojo (45) Phil Jones (42) Eric Bailly (36)

Don't know how many games were played for each to get a real comparison. That's a lot of headers for Keane anyway

Joe, I do believe your defensive stats would look good if you were a centre-half in a team deep sat as deep as Burnley.

League average defender who's a product of Burnley's system. Don't get the interest at all when he'd be asked to actually think for himself and play football.

Squaka had him as the highest for the most headers won in the top 5 leagues in Europe. Also very high in tackles and interceptions as well. Don't get where people think he can't think for himself. He's actually very good with the ball at both passing and composure. And I'm not just saying that as I'm happy he is possibly coming. I'm saying that as I've followed him since he was 16. Seen him live at all age groups. He's never gonna be world class. But for the price he's gonna be a good Prem defender. And can stay fit for more than 10 games a season. Be an upgrade on anything we have after Bailly and Rojo! Seen people say he's really slow, which again isn't strictly true he's kept up with Martial and Rashford when we've played them. Little slow on the turn that's all.
