Back line isn't make shift at all. Just missing Bailly

Any defence with Phil Jones or Chris Smalling in a final has a right to be called make-shift. That's not even considering that Blind is as much a CB as he is anything else like LB or whatever.

Was thinking the same. Blind, Damian, Valencia, Smalling, Jones more than good enough! Don't think we've ever been exposed by pace. Just individual mistakes during games. But Ajax are woeful at the back.

Tbh you kind of answered yourself there by saying 'Individual mistakes', not marking their man or positionally caught out, all kind of amounts to the same thing.

Tbh despite Bailly and Rojo being good both have been extremely rash lucky not to see more cards, don't need any of that especially in a Euro Final. You can pick fault with all our defenders tbh. And Jones is a good defender just gets injured to much, very rarely makes mistakes same for Blind. They will be fine!

Our CB's don't fill me with confidence but anyone who watches Ajax knows that they like playing deep blocks. But on the other hand they don't like being pressured high and being on the back foot.

This is basically what worries me, will Mourinho do like he did against Chelsea when we played them at Old Trafford and make us play to expose their defence and pressure them at every opportunity. Or just play into Ajax's hands basically and do a typical Mourinho instinct which is sit deep and hope to nick a goal. Sadly I think it will be the latter, which will make it harder in my opinion.

Was talking with a mate at work today. He's seems convinced that Mourinho will set up like against Chelsea. Not sure about that tbh. Another thing I'm not sure about is the availability of Fellaini because I think he could be good in this game. Against a small, young Ajax team who are weak in defence.

Fellaini is a sure starter for me! He could be useful in this game tbf, depends how we use him.

Are you saying there's more than one way?????
You can utilise the right elbow or the left one depending on the tactical plan, if Mourinho wants to pull out a big surprise he could go forehead like at City

Always said the past year that Smalling was as solid a defender in this league, but on this season's evidence, it looks like it really was the possession based system that made him look better than he was, rather than his game come on.

im sure there will be plenty of offers for his services.can see him at someone like a west ham or southampton, dont think he would get in a top five/six defence

Arsenal ;) Griezmann said in an interview on French TV it's possible he could join Utd. Then said odds were 7/10. :)

Southampton with Sakho and Smalling at centte half.

My word that has the potential for comedy gold game-on-game. One week it could look completely solid. The next a 90 minute walking calamity waiting to happen.

Be a sad day for everyone bar Utd fans when Smalling is no longer there.

He'd walk into Everton's side as a Jagielka successor? As clumsy as he can be, he's an honest defender that would be a slight upgrade on Funes Mori? (although haven't seen a lot of him second half of the season)

All this talk of Smalling going may just suggest that Jones will get the nod for the final.

So he says: "Lets talk next season. What comes to mind if I say "Manchester United". Grizou says "Possible".

Then the guy says "If 10 means you've already (secretly) signed, where would you say you're at right now?" and Grizou says "7".

The guy asks if he realizes what he's saying and Grizou says yes. Then the guy asks if it's the first time he's said this publicly and Antoine says yes once again.

From Griezmann live TV interview today.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a Jones/Smalling pairing on Wednesday tbh. I know it's made out to be a matter of which of the 2 will play alongside Blind, but Mou always seems to be more comfortable with physical CB's, I doubt a European final would lessen that.

And who knows, what's to say all 3 won't play...

Just seen that Griezzmann T.V. interview via twitter, very interesting, especially considering he has such respect for Atletico, this definitely isn't a wind up by him.

I'd say this move may depend on two things: -

1) Us acquiring CL

2) Atletico's transfer ban
