The Manchester United Thread

Did he play against anyone of note? (And that's not knocking Utd's Europa run before somebody jumps in. You can only beat what's in front of you. But as regards Romero, if you're making the case for him playing well in Europa last year, you need to also add he faced nothing like PL opposition.).

Did we play anyone of note you ask?!?! Romero was tested by the one... the only...

JOHN GUIDETTI.

Not really the target himself, it's more how unrealistic it is as well. Tottenham outright don't want to sell, we'll get fleeced by Levy and for Dier, it isn't worth it and a big waste of time. Especially when there is better DM's out there who we should be getting. We all know Fabinho would be the best target, even if it doesn't work out for DM we have a great RB as well.
At the end of the day it doesn't really matter who we thinks better. It's what Jose wants. I agree though getting from Spurs will be tough. But if the player wants to leave then there's a good chance for the right fee. Same for Matic.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter who our opposition is as long as he is saving shots and dealing with things in the box. We was pretty poor in our last few months with even decent-good teams getting very good chances against us, and he never let us down once. I for one would be more than happy to have him as 1st choice. But like I said I can't see DDG leaving anyway.

Quality of opposition would play a big part in what he's facing so I'd disagree.

Minus de Gea and no adequate replacement signed you'd be giving Everton hope of the top 6.

Nothing changes there. Key player and the one Utd just can't afford to lose.

Yeah ok so losing DDG would make Everton go above us. Ok I'm done on this convo!

Don't underplay De Gea dude, ok not as important last season but been our best player by a mile for a few seasons before.

weve seen how important big pete and van der saar were to us.look at those that came in between them,it was a horror show.de ge is in the top 3 keepers in the world no doubt whatsoever

I only said you'd be giving them hope. You would be far less of a threat to get back in the top 4 without him and the amount of points he saves a season if that helps.

If you think it'd put them above you that's your bag.

That right there. How long and how much mediocrity and worse did Utd go through between Schmeichel and dropping on van der Sar?

The Schmeichel-esq importance of de Gea can't be understated in any facet.

Not underplaying him at all. Just don't think he would be the huge game changing miss that you do. He wasn't tested half as much last season. And he made some clangers. And with Mourinho defencive organisation and slowly building the team he wants he will be relied on even less. There's absolutely no reason to say Romero wouldn't be a good first time going by his time at Utd so far!

If januazj meets all his add ons he will become the tenth most expensive player sold by the club
