The Manchester United Thread

I still for the life of me, don't know why we're keeping Fellaini. We have a big lump now in Lukaku who we can hoof the ball up to if need be, so we don't need him for that. We have Matic coming in to our midfield who is just as physically imposing but much better in a footballing sense. So we don't need him for that. Carrick will be the cover option for Matic if he gets injured or whatever.

He won't be a good rotation option for Herrera or Pogba if they get injured because he doesn't have the footballing capability to cover either of their roles. We have players like Pereira, Tuanzebe, TFM etc. who I feel would all be better at covering positions like that. As well as Carrick who can be another good option for us in midfield.

I just don't get it... as a squad moving forward.. onto hopefully bigger and better things. Why keep a nearly 30 year old Fellaini, when he offers very little now? Our last chance to probably make half-decent money from him as well to recover our losses.

Knock me down all you want, but an opinion is an opinion. It's not a meltdown when I have just reason to be moaning.

Fellaini has played more preseason minutes than TFM, Tuanzebe, Mitchel and a host of others who we should be getting into the fringes of our first team now. Who all have a much better future ahead of them and potential to be stars, if Mourinho allows it, but it's looking unlikely.

Already looks a lot stronger than your side last year on paper

I don't think so. Going off that team I think we're about the same. Our depth may be slightly better but I don't see any massive improvement from that compared to last season.

You're basically just replacing Zlatan with Lukaku and Matic with Carrick?

The LB still looks a glaring issue and the CB's don't look great still. Bailly is our no.1 CB obviously but not available there. I rate him a lot higher than all the others so far. Not really seen enough of Lindelof but he looks a bit shakey so far. So he needs more time.

Still think we're lacking if Pogba/Herrera is out of that team, it's a totally different story. Although I'm happy we have Pereira who hopefully Jose will trust this season in positions like that.

The side didnt need massive improvement, what it needs is to fix issues withing the current set up.

The side can now hinge forwards on Matic, but its upto the remaining player to finish chances squandered.

Every single one of the supporting band of attacking players is more than capable of double digit goals and assists.

Left back is the only area of doubt, but lets see what happens with Shaw first

I'd agree with that generally, still concerned though about our depth in certain areas and how they'll cover the likes of Pogba/Herrera if they are out of the team.

It's true that a lot of our players just need to step up this season, we know players like Martial can deliver a lot more. Here's hoping that this is the season where he shows it.

It would have been (or will be when it eventually happens), an interesting 'exercise' to see the change in opinion on him when he does eventually leave. When he plays for you, as much as you know he's completely mediocre and a serious danger to other players health the vast majority of the time, you let that all slide and try justifying him being around as some wholehearted, decent weapon to possess.

I suspect it'll be much the same way as it was with Evertonians. When he was there, they'd argue relentlessly that it was just L'pool fans hating on him as we couldn't cope with his style of player and what a great fella' he is to have in your team etc. Then, miraculously, as soon as he joined Utd, it was like they could stop hiding being the B/S and it became 'Yeah, yuse were right. He's utter sh*te and a complete thug that shouldn't be on a football pitch. Says it all about Moyes that he's taken him again.' (Or words to that effect.).

Mourinho and his reluctance in youth I'll leave you to debate as people get even more arsey about that than they do about Lukaku.

*Edit* Fellaini. Not Lukaku. My bad soz.

They have to. Lots of United's issues were not about transfers, but performances. The players need to raise their level.

Would like one CM in the mould of Herrera/Pogba, but I really like the look of AP, could really be his season, and Jose very much likes him

I think we have strengthened the squad compared to last season, but still need to get more out of what we have. Like Scouse said in the Pool thread there's not a lot between the top 6 as things stand now. That could all change before the start of the window!

BBC saying medical complete. Expect announcement later today. Liking the Jadon Sancho talk going around today from various reports, would be a fantastic signing. Think the Neymar transfer is really gonna kick things off.

I'll believe Neymar is downgrading to Paris if and when it's official.

Until then I personally don't see it at all regardless of all the twitter 'ITK's' and PSG's mouthpiece L'Equipe claims that it's 'done.'

The only reason I care about Neymar is that like Griezman before it was cancelled, and Mbappe; its a cascading transfer. Lots will happen because of it

No one if they can help it. Verratti could go to Barcelona.

Barcelona will move for Dembele or more likely Coutinho
Yeah ideally I think Emery would like to keep them all. Did see this morning in 2-3 places that Aurier, Moura, Pastore, Kry would be able to leave for the right prices.

Krychowiak was playing for the reserves a decent number of times last season for PSG and didn't feature much after December and if they need to sell for FFP he is an obvious one to ditch

Some fall from grace that. As a lot of Utd fans were crying for him last Summer.

With Bailly, Jones and Blind all suspended for the game against Real Madrid and as Tuanzebe, Smalling and Lindelöf played together in 5-3-2 yesterdays game during the 2nd half.

Could we see those 3 in that lineup against Real Madrid? I'm hoping so tbh, I think we've looked great in that 5-3-2'ish formation!
