The Manchester United Thread

No one has said Pochettino has achieved as much as Jose has. But you know for a fact that he wouldn't approach a big game like Jose does. It's just really horrible to see a team full of so many quality players that are being asked to play such a negative way. It;s not just against City, it's against every single big team now. Yeh we got the result last week against Arsenal, but they still outplayed us.
Maybe if he did he would win some.

If he did, he might actually win one. His away record is worse than Jose's

We've got to be better, absolutely. But spare me the woes when we're still second in the league.

Domestic season almost feels over though. Need to keep the appetite and make sure we don't get complacent with top 4.

Would give my left arm for a proper crack at the CL.

Dont think Mourinho will let that happen in the league. Can see us doing well in the cups again this year. Progress definitely being made. City just better atm.

It's looking highly unlikely we aren't going to win the league, but we are second, and if it weren't for City playing like they are we would be 1st. We are strong defensively, and when Pogba is playing nearly unstoppable ourselves. Martial and Rashford are back playing some good football.

We finished 1st in a group when 3rd place was eliminated on 9 points (last happened 12 years or so ago a team got relegated on such a high points total).

Also, Chelsea, Pool, and Arsenal all dropped points today. We may have lost against City, but I don't know why everyone thinks its the end of the world. We finished 6th last season after all.

It was always going to be another rebuilding season after finishing 6th.

The only thing I don't like is how un-creative we are without Pogba We shouldn't be so reliant on him. Even if that does prove what a fantastic player he is

That's why I want Milinkovic-Savic. He's an all-round CM who can take some of the creative burden off Pogba from central midfield. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Matic is top drawer in what he does but he's never going to score/assist double figures from midfield or be a creative spark. Herrera just doesn't have it in his locker, he's a trier, who can pop up with the odd goal or assist, but that's the height of it. Without Pogba we have nobody that brings to the table what he does in the middle of the park, Milinković-Savić does and could play alongside him & Matic in a 3. Would be a class midfield.

Nabbed from twitter:

Jose Mourinho was involved in a bust-up with Ederson and had milk and water thrown at him after the spat. Mourinho had gone to the door of City's dressing room to ask them to show more respect as they celebrated and played music. Mourinho allegedly had water squirted at him and was hit on the head by an empty plastic bottle while a melee ensued involving more than 20 players and staff. Some players tried to swing punches at each other while police looked on in disbelief. United's security staff were forced to disperse the brawl as United players blamed City's for ‘rubbing their noses in defeat’ by ‘whooping and cheering’. Mikel Arteta received a cut eyebrow and another employee was injured when Romelu Lukaku threw a bottle.

I love the start comes before the actual harm. liquid thrown, oh yeah guy hit with a bottle.

milkgate? in the papers incoming.

Booo United for not allowing amazon to film all this.... would have been amazing!

The thought of Mourinho handing out lessons in humility has totally tickled me there.

Needed that after Anfield today. Or yesterday. Whatever time we're now on.

Second in the league and 11 points off top means next to nothing to me. Yes it's good to be in the top 4 places but we're United not Arsenal. We're not competing for the top 4 trophy we're competing for the title and when we don't win it it's an unsuccessful season. The thing that really irked me yesterday is how we just so easily let City dictate the game, it was always going to be their game to lose when we setup like that. Which Jose does in every single big game, barring the freak result last week vs Arsenal, our record against big teams is absolutely woeful. Yes Pochettino's isn't great either, but at least he has a style and philosophy that he uses to actually try and win the big games. No one can honestly tell me yesterday we were going to win that game, we had like 3 chances in the entire match, The most annoying thing is how much space we gave City even in our own half with De Bruyne and Silva on the ball. Furthermore, every time we attacked (which was like I say, like a maximum of 5 times in the entire game).... Delph looked vulnerable every single time. We didn't do it anywhere near enough though. A complete lack of a winning mentality or a desire to win from the manager in that game. Even if in his head he wanted to, with that setup we were very unlikely to unless a freak result where City had 30 chances like Arsenal and we scored from our 2 or 3 chances.

You're in for a horrendous season then zzeezzy, as short of city collapsing, no one is catching them. You might as well stop watching for the rest of the season. And if you really hate Jose you might as well not watch until he leaves.

Poch's style has seen them fall even further away, ans score less goals, and achieve less. So if we're aren't arsenal, why the **** would we want to replicate Spurs so far?

TBF z Utd have been nottin' like a title contending, top side the 4 years since Ferguson hung it up. And all credit to him he managed to motivate one of the poorest groups he had the PL the title his last year. Which was a major surprise to everyone in all honesty. Not least in the final points gap.

One of 6 teams competing for a top 4 slot is the reality of where Utd currently are.

To go from 7th/4th/5th/6th to currently 2nd, if that holds, has to be seen as big progress surely?

Indeed. This also ignores the fact that any other season apart from city being ridiculous, we'd be genuinely fighting at the top or very, very close to it. Whether one likes Jose or what he does, we should he clear, any other season and we'd probably be top of the league. We need to find something to be a bit more special. And I don't think it's at the club yet. We're still not playing at our best, and we need to find a way, whether that's a spark from Jose, or an outside player influence.

Mike, even David Moyes would of been more adventurous in that game yesterday than Jose was. Even Huddersfield and West Ham looked more of a threat in recent games against City than we did. It's ****** embarrassing in big games and I'm really tired of people trying to defend it. The most annoying thing is that we gave City space in our half, their key players had all the time in the world. The few times we did attack, their defence and Delph looked vulnerable. Ffs, they had Fernandinho as a CB for that entire second half!

Go and support city then mate. Because he's not going to change.

Is that really the answer? Jose deserves to be criticised for his big game approach. We're United not West Brom.At least yesterday if we had a bit of a go and they won, you could of said alright we gave it a go. Rather than just doing what 90% of other beaten teams against City have done this season.Yesterday was the opportunity for us to have a go, with that lineup we really should of, rather than just let them walk all over us and hand them the title on a platter.
