The Manchester United Thread

Watched the match again today. McTominey actually was doing a very good job on Benega cutting off his passing lanes and forcing him to go backwards a few times. Wasn’t as effective when he was moved to the right of Pogba after Herrera went off. Clearly in the team to follow the manager instructions to the letter. Defo has more in his locker after following his career at Utds youth level.

Delighted with the DDG news this morning. Didn’t expect him to leave this Summer. But need to get him signed up anyway. Hirst, Sucker usually reliable. And Mitten on US TV said the same after the CL match.

None of this means a thing. Mitten says a lot of ****.

FA Cup quarter-final between @ManUtd and @OfficialBHAFC on Sat 17 March. 19:45 kick-off. That's a lot of traffic heading back down the M6 late on. Good luck with that.

Balague;

Real Madrid found out that De Gea would cost about 110m euros, that’s the figure that was suggested to them by an intermediate linked to Manchester United. They said that was far too expensive, which was their way of cleaning their hands and saying ‘OK, if you are going to renew and stay at Manchester’.

From the Chelsea presser :

“For the past 10-15 years, Manchester United versus Chelsea have been big matches,” Jose says. “We are both fighting for the top four, but it is always a big game, regardless of what’s at stake.” #MUFC

Ander Herrera injury update
Ander is out, I don’t know the final diagnosis but I know he is out for a few weeks, I don’t know how to say ‘few’, two, three four five or six

Mourinho on difficulties with Conte
I don’t want to speak about it, I’m not going to speak about it. That’s not the point, very good manager, fantastic team and that’s what is important for me.

Fellaini, Ibrahimovic, Blind, Rojo and Jones remain in the United treatment room. Herrera is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks. #MUFC

Mourinho on Pogba: “Sometimes players on the bench take five minutes to play, they don’t have shin pads, strapping, shirt, he took 10 seconds to be ready, to show the professionalism.” #mufc

Mourinho on Lukaku: “I don’t know, 21 goals is not not bad, I don’t measure his performances the same way you do, I have other points. I’m happy with his performances, even when he doesn’t score goals.” #mufc

Mourinho: “I think i don’t give trust for free. I think it’s the other way round. It’s not about the manager to trust the player. It’s about the player to make the manager trust him. It’s as simple as that. The confidence the trust I show towards Scott, he earned it.” #mufc

With all due respect to Lindelof, that would be the true heir to Rio & Vidic.
Yeah would be fantastic partnership. Beat in the league possibly one of the best in Europe. Not sure how much would cost 45-55m?

Think Lindelöf has been very good his last 5/6 performances. Great on the ball! Looks to be settled now.

"Alderweireld's situation is complicated by the nature of his contract, which is due to expire in 2019 but has a clause that enables the club to extend it by 12 months. However, the same clause also allows Alderweireld to leave next summer for £25.4 million before the final 14 days of the transfer window, so the end of this season represents Spurs' last chance to achieve his full market value, which would be more than £50 million. Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid are among the clubs monitoring the situation"

When you both play the way Mourinho plays with that protection for the defence first and foremost, and you have the best security blanket in the World in de Gea, spending major money on central defenders is WAY down on Utds list of priorities.

He has a 25M RC I think I read somewhere lol

I see where you're coming from mate, but if you can ship out Smalling for a fee that all you have to do is add 5-10M MAX to get Alderweireld, the best CB in the league, then it's a must move.

As you've shared before with the xG conceded stats, our defence is not as solid as "goals conceded" suggests.

Smalling's a donkey. Lindelof looks real tidy, but not completely trusted yet. Rojo's decent but a red card & career ending challenge waiting to happen. Jones is solid and underrated, but he's nowhere near Toby. Reads the game, controls the backline, builds it well from the back, we're crying out for him.

Would mind shipping 2 CB out this summer Jones injuries are starting to come again. Rojo struggling to regain fitness after that terrible knee injury and yeah Smalling. Tuanzebe back off loan and Alder in.

Yeah, that maybe came over not how I quite meant it. Don’t get me wrong, you can never have too many top players. And yeah, Utd’s defensive record is misleading thanks to Superman in nets. (PLEASE Madrid save us all from him the summer. We beg you. Sincerely, the other 19 PL clubs ...... But I digress ...... ).

I guess I was just trying to say Mourinho drills guys so well within what he’s always done that he you can plug in most anyone the back so long as they’re competent yer know? Defence is the last area he ever really needs to spend major cash on. But it naturally help.

For me its not even about solidity, neither of the buffoons can play out the back without having a brain fart
