Ahh, so another Alexis Sanchez situation whereby you have to pay majority of the wages for someone else to take a player off your hands. In case you have forgotten but De Gea is the highest-paid GK out there, you ain't shifting him without doing a Sanchez. I know Z said he hopes personally De Gea will realize he isn't up the task no more but that's wishful thinking for someone to walk away from a contract that was given to him by the club and still has some time to run on it. The whole thing is a mess as you now have another first choice gk on 100k plus on the bench who is going to want game time. This is why a DOF is a must as amateur decisions like this could be avoided.
 
Uhffff so that is 500k a week on two GK + Sergio for maybe 50-100k. Dont get me wrong, Dean is worth around it, a bit less but it might have been only option to hold him in the club, but De Gea situation should be cleared.

It's all part of the grand plan to sell DDG lol.
 
This season should still be fine. Henderson is still untested at the Top-6, mind. He will most likely be a Cup GK initially, taking on the Romero role (who is likely to be moved on). Which is fine. And if DDG regains his confidence, nothing like it. Still prefer him over almost any other GK for pure GK skills (ignoring the Sweeper role).

If not, won't be too much of an issue to sell him on, without taking the brunt of the wages (depends on how Covid goes and club finances). I mean, it's not a Kepa situation where he makes atrocious errors. For DDG, I reckon it is more of a confidence issue. Wages could be a concern, but I'm not as worried as I would be a la Sanchez.

And to be fair, he was in his prime when our defence was leaky AF, so he was facing more shots very regularly. This was something that was reduced last season, making it harder on the concentration, I guess.

It will be interesting to see how that's managed. I do understand the whole situation given Henderson hasn't played for a side that keep a higher defensive line. I voiced my concern over this sometime in Jan: he may look great in a Burnley side that set up with low blocks but how would he fare playing for a side that keeps a high line? How would he fair with the pressure of playing for United? One mistake and he'll get eaten alive (he did make a few mistakes with Burnley mind you).


I can understand the cautious approach here of not putting all our eggs in one basket. DDG will eventually be sold but it's about finding the right replacement first rather than go through a turmoil period of GKs like we did between Schmeichel and VDS. As for selling DDG, he's still quality even though mistakes have crept into his game on a more consistent basis. I don't think we'll get the money we're asking for but he could be part of a player swap.

You echoed something Mourinho said a couple seasons ago. He stated DDG does tend to switch off when "the action is further away from his goal"

That still won't be helped with Badiashile. Need a proper sweeper-keeper to maintain the high line, while having defenders with pace who can keep up with strikers who poach from the defensive line. And good understanding to maintain an offside trap. It'll take time, not that easy a fix but atleast there is some semblance of improvement.

Why would you move AwB to CB? His positioning is not the best and neither is his heading. Nor is he exceptional at passing out from the back. That would be a last ditch thing we deal with occasionally when we revert to a back 3 (a la Shaw).

Yeah his passing is pretty bad tbf. But he’s actually quite good with his head. Only think he was court out positional a few times and then he has the pace and those legs to make up for it. Just thought it was interesting and could see it being tried maybe. ??‍♂️
