2022 World Cup Preview: Keepers

attachment.php

If his strong 2020/21 season continues the way it has, Bill Hamid could be the U.S. third choice keeper.

I did this 'preview' last year and had such a fun time doing it, I figure what the **** let's do it again. This time around I added attack midfielders to the list. For the majority of this World Cup cycle the U.S. has run out in a 4-3-3 formation, but not that some of the top youth talent establishing themselves with their first teams at club level, we could see a permeant to a 4-2-3-1 soon. Let's start this at the back and make our up the pitch...

Locks: Ethan Horvath and Zack Steffen
Fringe: Bill Hamid and Sean Johnson
Outsiders: Brad Guzan, Alex Bono, and Zac MacMath
Youth: Brady Scott and Jonathan Klinsmann

Nothing has changed here from 12 months ago, however, I did add Zac MacMath to the list. The San Jose shot stopper has consistently been an above average keeper in the MLS over the past few seasons, and with no one taking a real step forward it’s hard to find three other keepers better than him outside of the guys listed as ‘locks’ or ‘fringe’ players. Horvath made the switch from Club Brugge to Anderlecht in last summer’s transfer window and has again shined for last year Belgium Champions. He was linked to some clubs in top leagues in Europe, but last years move is still a small step forward. Although Steffen’s ‘average rating’ has gone up each of the past three seasons, he’s now 25 and should be entering the prime of his career soon. I’d love it if he could land a move overseas to truly test himself. After a season and a half on loan in the MLS, Bill Hamid has established himself as the starting keeper for his club in Denmark. That is big news for him as he had the opportunity to play Champions League football this season. He helped his side advance past the play off round and into the group stages where he did record a clean sheet against Lazio in Italy. The other fringe player is Sean Johnson who has been one of, if not the best keeper in the MLS over the past three seasons. At 31-years old, it’s hard to see the NYCFC man move to Europe, but regardless, I’d still consider him a strong third choice option if he won the job. At 36-years old, Brad Guzan is past his prime, but looking back at last season, he recorded a higher ‘average rating’ compared to the ‘outsiders’. He just made another move back to Europe and is listed as a key player for Young Boys of the Swiss Super League. His club has finished in the top two of their league in five of the past six seasons. It would be fun to see the veteran leader gets a chance to play European football. Lastly, Alex Bono is a player who has a lot of potential, but is yet to show it. He’s still only 26-years old and has been a first choice keeper for Toronto FC for six seasons now, but (looking at his average ratings) really hasn’t grown as a player which is a bit of a disappointment.

2022 World Cup Preview: Center Back

attachment.php

After establishing himself as a Premier League regular, Cameron Carter-Vickers looks to be the second best option for the U.S. at center back.

Locks: John Brooks and Cameron Carter-Vickers
Fringe: Matt Miazga, Auston Trusty, Justin Glad
Outsiders: Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, Tim Parker, Walker Zimmerman
Youth: Mark McKenzie and Erik Palmer-Brown

Cameron Carter-Vickers is now considered a lock and is the frontrunner to lineup next to John Brooks as we march into 2021. The English born center back spent three seasons on loan in the Championship before Tottenham sold him in last summer’s transfer window to Premier League side, Fulham. The 23-year old has started in 24 Premier League matches thus far and all five FA Cup clashes helping his team reach the Semi-Finals where Fulham will play either Manchester City, Liverpool, or Wolves. Even at 34-years old, Matt Besler is still very much in the picture. Although his best days are behind him, the Sporting KC appearance record holder (285 app.) is consistently one of the best at his position in the MLS and should be included in any U.S. first team, but he’ll be 35 when the World Cup rolls around, so it’s hard to call him a lock. Omar Gonzalez is in the same boat. He wasn’t even on the list last year after falling out of favor with his club team. However, he turned things around in a major way last year starting 23 matches for Pachuca and recording a 7.21 ‘average rating’. I think it’s fair to say Liga MX is a tougher league than the MLS, so that rating is even more impressive with all the other ‘outsiders’ currently suiting up in the U.S. The other seven names on the list remain where they were last year. I don’t see the two players in the youth category having a chance to make the World Cup team, but could potentially play a major part next cycle.

If Jimmy Medranda commits to the U.S. he very well could be a World Cup player.

Locks: Antonee Robinson
Fringe: Jorge Villafana, Jimmy Medranda*, Greg Garza
Outsiders: George Bello and Brandon Vincent
Youth: Greg Trujilo (next gen) and Jaylin Lindsey

The left back position still remains an area of weakness for this national side. Antonee Robinson, who is in the last year of his contract with Everton, has failed to break into the first team with his club side after making just four substitute appearance in the first half of the season. He was loaned out to Feyenoord in January and has only managed four starts in the Eredivisie. Jorge Villafana is an established U.S. international with 28 caps to his name. But, at 31-years old, his best years are behind him and it’s only a matter of time before a younger option takes his place. He is the clear second choice left back right now, however. Jimmy Medranda is a new name in this list. The native Colombian left his home country last year to return to America and had a great first season with Toronto FC, which put him on the U.S. National Team map. He is yet to commit his future to the U.S., but if he does there is a very strong chance he could feature on the World Cup roster. Greg Garza had his best MLS season last year if we look back over the past three seasons. His name was on last years list, but that was because there weren’t that many other options. If he continues to play well, then he too has a chance to be on the plane to Qatar.

Tyler Adams will be heading to Qatar, the question is where on the pitch he will lineup.

Locks: DeAndre Yedlin and Tyler Adams
Fringe: Josh Emmanuel and Keegan Rosenberry
Outsiders: Shaq Moore, Reggie Cannon, Timmy Chandler
Youth: N/A

Yedlin has been the first choice right back since well before this cycle began and that will not change. One could even argue he is the best American footballer outsider of Christian Pulisic. After leaving the U.S., Yedlin made 65 Premier League appearances before leaving England for France. And, now with Marseille, he’s been one of the best full backs in all of Ligue 1. So far this season he has a 7.47 ‘average rating’ in 16 starts. Behind Yedlin is Club Brugge’s Tyler Adams. The former NY Red Bulls product has played as a right back and as a central midfielder under tbuc and continue to play both when needed. At club level Adams has not only played those positions, but can add left back to his resume as well. So far this season, Adams has made 21 league appearance (20 starts) with an ‘average rating’ of 7.49. He is now drawing interesting from Premier League side Crystal Palace. Josh Emmanuel now finds his name on this list after committing his future to the U.S. However, as long as Adams and Yedlin stay healthy, it’s hard to see anyone else seeing the field in a U.S. shirt. One last name to mention who also did not make the list last year is Timmy Chandler. After being stuck on the bench last season, the Eintracht Frankfurt man has reestablished himself and has a 7.07 ‘average rating’ in 22 2. Bundesliga starts this campaign.

2022 World Cup Preview: Center Midfielders

Kellyn Acosta's success in Ligue 1 has him listed as a lock to make it to Qatar.

Locks: Weston McKennie and Kellyn Acosta
Fringe: Michael Bradley, Emerson Hyndman, Tyler Adams
Outsiders: Danny Williams, Russell Canouse, Cristian Roldan, Gianluca Busio
Youth: James Sands

Weston McKennie, Kellyn Acosta and Michael Bradley are the top three options for the U.S. in the middle of the pitch. McKennie and Acosta are current first teamers for clubs playing in top leagues in Europe. McKennie has made 20 Bundesliga starts for Schalke and Acosta 18 starts for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 this season. Bradley has plenty of European experience lining up for the likes of Aston Villa, Borussia Monchengladbach, and most recently Roma before returning to the U.S. Bradley is still the captain and leader on the pitch with 157 U.S. caps to his name. However, at 33-years old and plenty of depth in the middle it’s only a matter of time before another option takes his place. Emerson Hyndman has had a very successful international career up to this point, but is just being blocked out by the talent ahead of him. He made a move to Torino last summer, but a hip injury as held him to just six league appearances this year. Tyler Adams is on this list, but is a lock to make the roster with his ability to play right back. Danny Williams is in a similar boat as Bradley. He has plenty of top club experience playing multiple seasons in both the Bundesliga and the Premier League, but at 32 his best years are behind him. Both Russell Canouse and Cristian Roldan are top quality MLS midfielder, but like Hyndman there is just too much talent ahead of them. Gianluca Busio is a natural attacking midfielder, but has the ability to play a little deeper as well. At 18-years old, he could be listed in the youth category, but with three senior team caps to his name I think he’s graduated from there. The final name on the list is James Sands. He’s taken major strides forward over the last two seasons breaking into the first team at NYCFC. He’s still only 20 and has plenty of room to grow. The big question with him is where he will play. He’s a natural defensive midfielder, which is a position the U.S. don’t use. Things will be interesting if he progresses the way he has and can’t be left of the senior team roster.

2022 World Cup Preview: Central Attacking Midfield

attachment.php

With the ability to play as a 10 or deeper in the midfield, Gianluca Busio could be the closest thing to a lock at this position.

Locks: N/A
Fringe: Efrain Alvarez, Gianluca Busio, Juan Pablo Torres, Darlington Nagbe, Handwalla Bwana, Kenny Saief
Outsiders: N/A
Youth: N/A

No one is a lock and that is because the U.S. have not fully committed to the 4-2-3-1 formation yet. It is the setup tbuc wishes to use, but with the talent depth deeper in the midfield and the lack of experience at this position the change in formation would see a most talented option left on the bench. But, with that said, they is plenty of top quality potential in the central attacking position. Efrain Alvarez and Gianluca Busio are probably the top two U.S. prospects overall. Alvarez broke into the first team with the LA Galaxy two season ago and became a regular in the starting 11 last year. He does have seven U.S. cap to his name has two goals and an assist to show for it. Teams like Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, and Tottenham have all shown interest in the Mexican-American. Gianluca Busio made 31 appearances for Sporting KC over three seasons before signing with Liverpool on his 18th birthday. So far this season he has 11 goals and nine assists for their U23 setup. Like Alvarez, it’s just a matter of when tbuc feels those two 18-year olds are ready to make a real impact for the U.S. national team. Darlington Nagbe and Kenny Saief are in the same boat. Both are wingers and have been regular call ups under tbuc. They have the ability to play centrally, but that would only pull them away from where they feel more comfortable. The last two names, Juan Pablo Torres and Handwalla Bwana, are both 21 and regular starters for their club teams. They have high potential and could made an impact with the national team, but may not be at Nagbe’s or Saief’s level yet and don’t have the hype of Alvarez or Busio.

2022 World Cup Preview: Left Wing

attachment.php

Will the eligibility of Jack Harrison to play for the U.S. knock Kenny Saief out of the picture?

Locks: N/A
Fringe: Jake Harrison, Darlington Nagbe, Kenny Saief
Outsiders: Sebastian Lletget, Fabian Johnson, Julian Green
Youth: Jonathan Amon and Zyen Jones

Jack Harrison is basically a lock, but having never played a match in a U.S. shirt at any level, I don’t want to give him that label just yet. Darlington Nagbe and Kenny Saief have been the two regular call ups under tbuc at this position and proven they are more than capable of handling the role. Now, with Harrison in the picture, it will be very interesting to see who gets replaced if the Cardiff City winger does get called in right away. Saief has been regular first teamer with the Belgian Champions, Anderlecht for three seasons now and has an ‘average rating’ of over 7.00 in each campaign. Nagbe, on the other hand, has spent his entire 12 year career playing in the MLS. To his credit the Liberian born wide man has been one of the best players in the league for several seasons. He scored a career high 12 goals last year for Atlanta United. All three outsiders have seen the pitch under tbuc, most recently Fabian Johnson, but at this point it’ll take an injury to one of the fringe players for them to see the further action. Most had written off Fabian Johnson after he fell out of favor for his club team in German, but a late career resurgence in the MLS sees the Munich born winger/fullback’s name right back in the picture. Julian Green was once the most promising U.S. talent and expectations grew even higher for him after scoring a vital goal in the 2014 World Cup, but his club career just never took off. After spending his youth in the Bayern Munich academy, he was sold to Stuttgart and after three and a half seasons in the 2. Bundesliga, Green made the move to Greece last January. He has been in flying form for PAOK, but is that enough for tbuc to give him a real chance?

2020 World Cup Preview: Right Wing

attachment.php

A strong 2018 MLS season has Joel Sonora's name listed as one of the top U.S. options on the right.

Locks: Christian Pulisic
Fringe: Joel Sonora and Darlington Nagbe, Timmy Weah
Outsiders: Handwalla Bwana, Duane Holmes, Paul Arriola
Youth: Konrad De la Fuente

Christian Pulisic is the best player on this team. He has an ‘average rating’ of 7.05, 7.28, and 7.69 over the last three years with Borussia Dortmund and has had similar success in the Champions League. Behind the 22-year old are three options, all of which have legitimate chances of making the World Cup roster. Joel Sonora was absent for this list last year, but after a 7.20 ‘average rating’ last year, talying eight goals and nine assist with Seattle in the MLS, he is very much in the picture. Darlington Nagbe has 45 U.S. caps and has primary played on the left wing, but with Jake Harrison committing his future to the U.S., Nabge could lose his spot. Timmy Weah is one of the top U.S. youth prospects and at 21-years old he should be breaking into the senior team at club level as well. That is not the case for the natural striker, as he’s been stuck in the PSG reserves since he joined their youth ranks in 2014. Regardless, he has the ability to play at the U.S. senior team level, but until he can find minutes in some meaningful football he just might be overlooked. Handwalla Bwana’s versatility could see him make the World Cup roster. He is a natural central attacking midfielder, but has the ability to play out wide. Adding him to the roster would allow to U.S. to carry an extra midfielder which is a major plus. He broke into the first team with the Seattle Sounders in 2018 and has played extremely well for his club. Duane Holmes and Paul Arriola are in the same boat. Both are 26-years old and have had good careers for clubs in just okay leagues. Arriola is in his fifth season with DC United in the MLS, while Holmes is now a third year starter with Derby in the Championship after two years on loan in League One. Both players are talented enough to play for the senior U.S. team and at this point I would say Arriola has the edge over Holmes with his prior international experience. Lastly, 19-year old Konrad De la Fuentes made the list this time around. It’s probably a little too early to truly consider him a legit option, but the former Barcelona academy product has broken into the first team at Oviedo in the second division in Spain. He’s a name to look out for in the future.

2022 World Cup Preview: Strikers

attachment.php

After a stellar 2019 in a U.S. shirt, Bobby Wood is the clear top option for the U.S. up front.

Locks: Bobby Wood
Fringe: Aron Johannsson, Jozy Altidore, Josh Sargent, and Timothy Weah
Outsiders: Dom Dwyer, Jordan Morris, and Andrija Novakovich
Youth: Folarin Balogun, Haji Wright and Steve Ashton

This is actually pretty tough. Bobby Wood has established himself as our top option up front, scoring five goals in six matches last year, but behind him it’s anyone’s guess. Two names were trimmed off the list from last year, but none of the striker who remain have really broken out or truely taken a major step forward in their career. In fairness, Aron Johannsson has gotten regular minutes in the Bundesliga, Serie A, and now in the Turkish Super League for Fenerbahce where he’s scored five in five for his new club. However, while he continue to have a successful club career, his form in a U.S. shirt has been poor scoring just four goals in 27 caps. Josh Sargent has started his U.S. career in flying form, scoring seven goals in 15 matches. The issue with him is at the club level. He’s now been with Werder Bremen for three full season, and only has 11 Bundesliga appearance to show for it, and only four of those have been starts. A loan move next season could really do him some good. I’ve talked about Timmy Weah before, so I won’t go into detail here. He, like Sargent, could do with some first team minutes to help progress his career. The last name on the list of outsiders has the third most international goals in U.S. history. However, he is past his prime and isn’t the same goal scoring machine he once was. Although, with his experience, Jozy Altidore is still a top option. The three outsiders are all quality strikers in the MLS, but really nothing more. Jordan Morris has the most potential to grow and is probably the best option of the three.

March 2021 World Cup Qualifiers Roster Announced

attachment.php

The team for the final two matches of World Cup qualifying third round action has been announced. Just one point should see the U.S. through, but if they take all three against Honduras, then the U.S. will run out against Costa Rica stress free. No surprises when we look over the roster. Omar Gonzalez is called in for the first time since he started that forgettable match against Trinidad in 2017. Most have hoped they’d never see his name against, but he’s been in great form at club level in Liga MX and his leadership at the back is key. Justen Glad is called in over the other fringe names. He too has been in flying form for his club team this very early MLS season. He only has one cap and deserves another chance to prove himself. Efrain Alvarez and Emerson Hyndman are back in the team. Hyndman is coming off a long term injury, but has proven to be a quality option in the midfield for tbuc. On the wings, Jack Harrison and Joel Sonora have been brought in for the first time. U.S. fan are very excited to see what Harrison can do for the red, white, and blue.

2022 World Cup Qualifier: Third Round Matchday 5

Michael Bradley proved today why he is still the captain of this team. We did dominated from the beginning, but in the first half everything went stale for us in the final third. The U.S. ended up settling for a long distance shot or just lost possession on the edge of the box. In stepped Michael Bradley in the 64th minutes and things turned around. The transition was much quicker and the ball was in the box before the Honduran defense could get setup. Christian Pulisic had one of his best matches in a U.S. shirt. He setup Jake Harrison for his first U.S. goal on what seemed like a 80 yard run. The Dortmund man picked up the ball on the edge of his own box, turn and sprinted past two midfielder, then a defenders, before putting in a low, hard cross for Harrison to tap home. Pulisic picked up the winner in the 55th minutes. Yedlin skipped past his marker and put in a low cross which hit of a center back and right to the winger. Three touches later it was 2-1. Bradley had the goal of the tournament in the 74th minute. Yedlin laid the ball off to the captan who took who took one touch and blasted one of the post and in from **** near 40 yards out. Finally the 18-year old Efrain Alvarez put the icing on the cake, scoring two late consolation goals. The first came from a Bradley free kick to the far post where an unmarked Alvarez just tapped it in from just a couple yards out. The second came on the counter. Pulisic, in acres of space, put in a cross right to Alvarez standing on the penalty spot and directed it in with one touch. The defenders just seemed to be standing there watching. With the shift the U.S. put in today can you blame them?!

2022 World Cup Qualifier: Third Round Matchday 6

attachment.php

March was godo to us, as we won both our matches with ease. This is very encouraging with some tough competition coming up in the Confederations Cup in July. Michael Bradley was the leader again winning the Man of the Match award. Also, Christian Pulisic was massive on the right. Every highlight of our attack seemed to go through him. The home side did get on the board first. It came from a free kick. John Brooks missed the header, leaving Ronald Matarrita to control the ball with his first touch and finishing in the bottom right corner with his second. We fought back and scored the next three. The first came from a header off the crossbar by Jake Harrison, which fell to Pulisic to tap into an empty net. After elected to run out in a 4-2-3-1 formation today, Darlington Nagbe was given the number 10 role. He took advantage, scoring the winner. The Atlanta Utd. winger picked up the ball on the edge of box, took two touches toward the middle and hit a beautiful curler into the top right corner. Lastly, it was the captan who picked up his 25th international goal to put the game away. Today marked Bradley 159th cap for the U.S. He is just five behind Cobi Jones for the most all time.

U.S. Qualify for the 2022 World Cup

Looks like the CONCACAF restructured their qualifying format without my knowledge. Thank goodness we finished at the top of our group, because now we're off to Qatar next year!!

Mexico and Jamaica will be joining the U.S. at the World Cup (Brazil and Argentina have also qualified). This is the second time the Reggae Boyz have ever qualified for the tournament in their history. With the commitments of world class winger, Leon Bailey, and English born striker, Dwight Gayle, the Caribbean nation look to set new records in the future.

2021 Gold Cup Group Stage Draw

attachment.php

April 9, 2021

The first thing that jumps out is how stacked Group A is. Three of the top four nations in the CONCACAF are all paired
together and, after failing to qualify for next years World Cup, and group stage exit by Costa Rica in this tournament would be devastating for their fans. Group B is the weakest. Reaching the next round would be an accomplishment for whichever two teams make it out. Group C is where the U.S. find themselves. With the first team taking part in the Confederations Cup, the B Team will get their chance to prove what they have. The American's were in the same group as Honduras and Panama during World Cup qualifying and took all three points each time they played. Even with a weakened side, I still think the U.S. should get through. Canada and Trinidad are the favorites in Group D. The Soca Warriors will be playing in a two legged playoff with the hopes of making the World Cup for the second time ever.

As you can see it's a busy time for the U.S. at all levels. The senior team will get together very soon for a match in Trinidad to kick off the second ever, biannual Nations League tournament. It was this tournament which the U.S. won helping tbuc lift his first trophy as a manager. Later in the month of June the team will take part in the Confederations Cup for the second time ever. With the senior team preoccupied, the B Team will represent the U.S. at the Gold Cup. This is the second time tbuc will manage his nation in this CONCACAF tournament, losing to Jamaica in the 2019 final in penalties. The U23 Team play New Zealand in early June. That match will be used to give some of the younger, fringe players a chance to prove themselves before the Gold Cup. Don't expect any of eligible regular first team players on the roster. That means no Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, or Tyler Adams. Lastly, the U20 Team are currently playing in the U20 World Cup. The Americans won the 2019 World Cup in a perfect Cinderella story beating Argentina in penalties in the final.

DeAndre Yedlin Out 5 Weeks

attachment.php

attachment.php

Right back DeAndre Yedlin has been ruled out for 5 weeks right before the U.S. team gets together for the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup. This is a big lose for the U.S. as that leaves only Tyler Adams left who has played right back more three times for the U.S. under tbuc. On a positive note this will give an opportunity for more than just one player to gain valuable minutes at the back. Josh Emmanuel was the last right back to be brought in outside of Adams and Yedlin. He took part in the Olympics as well and has played well in the English Championship for Derby County. Reggie Cannon was a promising youngster for several years and made three appearances for the U.S. back in 2018. However, after falling out of favor with FC Dallas he has fallen down the pecking order. The 22-year old did spend one season in Sweden getting his early career back on track before coming back state side where he is now a starter with Real Salt Lake.

June 2021 Nations League Roster Announced

attachment.php

The senior team is getting together for just one match. We do see a few changes because of injuries and lack of match fitness. A fractured finger sees Bill Hamid replaced by Sean Johnson. At the back DeAndre Yedlin is out with a hip injury and in steps Josh Emmanuel. The English born full back is being linked with a summer move to Premier League side Crystal Palace. In the middle Gianluca Busio and Cristian Roldan are in ahead of Emerson Hyndman and Efrain Alvarez. After a long term injury, Hyndman did play in the March World Cup qualifiers, but a lack of minutes at Torio sees him out this time around. Alvarez is dealing with a toe injury. On the wing, Paul Arriola is back in ahead of Joel Sorona. Sorona is healthy and playing, but tbuc went with experience here. Up front, Josh Sargent is out. He barely saw the pitch this past season with Werder Bremen, so he is dropped for Aron Johannsson.

March U23 Friendly Roster Announced

attachment.php

The U23’s will get together for one match against New Zealand in Frisco, Texas. Starting keeper at the Olympics, Brady Scott, is back. He made two Bundesliga starts for Koln this season. Carlos dos Santos, who left the U.S. when he was 15, is in the last year of his contract at Benfica. He’s now 20 and nowhere near the Portuguese clubs first team, so he’ll have a busy offseason looking for a new club. At the back most will recognize George Bello and Reggie Cannon’s name. Both have played for the senior team in the past and both are first team regulars for their MLS club sides. Greg Trujillo (next gen) has 28 U20 caps and was just drafted by the Philadelphia Union. In his rookie season he has eight MLS starts already to his name. Although he’s still just 21-years old, Jaylin Lindsey’s club career has stalled. He made 16 MLS starts in 2018 and followed that up with 23 in 2019. However, last year he managed just four and this term he has been loaned out to second division U.S. side Swope Park Rangers.

In the middle, Auston Trusty is no doubt the most talented option compared to the other three. He’s spent the last two years on loan in the 2. Bundesliga where he’s played well. His former club teammate in Philadelphia, Mark McKenzie, will likely start next to Trusty against New Zealand. He’s been a rotational player for the last four seasons in Philly. It may take a move elsewhere for the promising center back to get consistent minutes. Lennard Maloney just committed his future to the U.S. over Germany to take part in this match. The Union Berlin man was loaned out to third tier German side Oberhausen where he was a starter.

In the middle of the pitch we see three natural central midfielders and two attacking middies. Chris Durkin, who came up through the DC United academy, finally broke into the senior team in 2019, however since then he’s only gotten a few appearance off the bench. Regardless, with James Sands out with an injury, Durkin will be the leader in the middle. Partnering Durkin with be either Brandon Servania or Ben Lederman. Servania has come through the FC Dallas academy. This 2021 season is his first with the senior team, but he has only managed two appearance thanks to a few injures. Lederman left the U.S. at 15 to join the Barcelona setup, however, after just three years he decided to leave knowing first team minutes there would be near impossible. He’s now spend three years in Belgium with Gent where he’s seen the majority of his tenure with the reserves or making appearance off the bench for the first team.

Further up the pitch Juan Pablo Torres is in the team after making six senior team appeances, all in 2019. After leaving the U.S. he’s been a regular starter for Belgium side Lokeren. He’s very much in the picture for the B Team as well. Djorde Mihailovic is the other option. He’s been a regular off the bench with the Chicago Fire for the last three seasons. If he can get more first team minutes, he will be closely looked at as a option for the senior team.

On the wings Handwalla Bwana and Orrin McKinze Gaines are the options on the right and Jonathan Amon or Andrew Carlton will start on the left. Amon has four caps for the senior team and will likely take part in the Gold Cup next month. McKinze Gaines made 21 Bundesliga starts this year after helping his side gain promotion the season before. Upfront we see two striker who are severely lacking first team football. That leaves just Haji Wright. He had a successful stint on loan in the 2. Bundesliga last year, before staying at home playing for the Schalke reserves this term. He scored 10 goals in 13 matches, however.
