yes, they are a really good team, I just don't post so many news about them as no one showed interest in them. When I return, in nine days, I will have plenty of time to post news and everything...

thanks, it's really an hard work, but the most important is that there are people following... if there weren't any replies or "liked posts" this would have ended earlier.

Cheers

OVERVIEW
Liga Sagres

Benfica- clearly, at the time, the most predictable team to win the portuguese league, but in the next week (this saturday) they will have to face Sp. Braga, the team which is making more pressure in the leadership. The "eagles" come from an undefeated streak that lasts since their defeat against Braga in the first round, in the beggining of November, and will have to prove that they have got what it takes to be in the front, even having to face Braga, Porto and Sporting in the following months.

Braga- the biggest surprise in the championship has to win against Benfica next saturday in order to keep in the fight for the title. However, the most important thing for the northern team is to secure a Champions League place.

Porto- after an amazing winning row, the four times champions have been losing and drawing one game after another, and the biggest question is if they will awake and return to their normal form or continue sleeping and losing the 3rd place for Sporting. The title is more and more far everyday, and they are now 11 pts from Benfica, the championship leader.

Sporting- after an awful beggining and middle of season, it seems like the lions are now running in the final sprint. the win against Porto awake the Lisbon team, which was completely ruined. Now the biggest question is if they will achieve the 3rd position, 9 points away, since the title is almost lost, with a 20 points disadvantage to Benfica. With no more competitions to fight for, and trying to save a season which is completely lost, without any titles won.

V. Guimaraes- the fight for the 5th place is even more lit up than the fight for the title, with Guimaraes, P. Ferreira, Leiria, Naval, Nacional, Rio Ave and Maritimo trying to save an European spot for the next season, but the biggest rival of Braga (Guimaraes), seems to be the most probable team to secure it and even fight for the 4th place against Sporting, as there are only 5 points separing the two teams.

Carlsberg Cup

After defeating Sporting 4-1 in the semi-finals, Benfica battered the another big rival Porto in the final 3-0, and won the first official competition of the season, after winning all the friendly competitions (7) fought for. This was also the first national title for the new and skilfull manager Jorge Jesus, after winning the Intertoto Cup with Braga. The coach dedicated this victory to his dad, who died in the beggining of the season.

Millenium Cup

In the semi finals, the biggest surprise is the appearance of a Liga Vitalis team, Desportivo de Chaves. Note to the fact that Porto qualified for the semi finals after beating Sporting 5-2

European Competitions

Benfica- currently the only portuguese team in European competitions, Europa League. After passing in first in their group, Benfica faced Hertha Berlin, and drew 1-1 away and won 4-0 in Lisbon. Then, they were sorted against Marseille, drew 1-1 in Lisbon with the opponents goal being scored near the 90', and then won 2-1 in Marseille after being losing 1-0. Now, we were unlucky and will have to eliminate Liverpool if we want to move thowards the semi finals of the 2nd biggest competition in Europe. 1st hand will be played in Estadio da Luz in the 1st April and the second hand in Anfield one week later. Whoever passes will have to face Valencia or At. Madrid in the semi finals.

Braga- eliminated in the 2nd round of Europa League against Elfsborg

Porto- after a lucky and happy win in Estadio do Dragao against Arsenal by 2-1, the second in Chelsea's group was humilliated at the Emirates Stadium by 5-0 and eliminated from the Champions League.

Sporting- After winning their group, which was easy for the team history (Hertha, Heerenven and Ventspils), they were drew against Everton, a team which had bad memories about Lisbon, after being battered by Benfica in the group stage by 5-0. In the first hand, at Goodison Park, Everton managed to get a fragile advantage of 2-1, but when the Liverpool's team came to Lisbon, the city's curse continued and Sporting won 3-0. and passed to the round of 16, where they were drew against At. Madrid. After a draw at Vicente Calderon by 0-0, the Portuguese capital saw a great game of football, with a draw of 2-2 with two goals from Aguero. However, the draw was enough to put an end to the Sporting's dream of winning the Europa League and saving the season.

Nacional- eliminated at Europa League - Group Stage.

NEWS

Benfica- Due to the hard schedule to the Lisbon team (Braga - 28/03; Liverpool 01/04; Naval 03/04; Liverpool 08/04; Sporting 11/04), the game against Naval originally scheduled to the 3rd April will be played Monday 5th April, so that the team as more time to rest for this important game for the championship, after Braga and before Sporting. Oscar Cardozo, the best striker and highest scorer in Liga Sagres and second best in Europa League, said he was expecting much more from Porto at the Carlsberg Cup final, won by Benfica by 3-0. David Luiz denied any connection to Real Madrid and said that Estadio da Luz was his home, and that he would only think about leaving Benfica if he wins the championship.

Braga- Paulo Cesar, Evaldo, Matheus and Moisés were rintegrated in the rest of the group which will face Benfica this Saturday. Mossoro said that Braga has what it takes to win any game this season. There were already sold 2000 tickets for the northern club supporters. However, it is predictable that Estadio da Luz, with the tickets for this game sold out, will be totally occupied by Benfica fans.

The hard work developed by Braga in order to triumph against Benfica and return to the leadership of the table.

Porto- The board of directors of the blues gathered yesterday to discuss the bad moment of the team and the future of Jesualdo Ferreira. However, the decisions made weren't told to the press. Ernesto Farias returned to the training activity, while Cristian Rodriguez and Nuno didn't show up for unknown reasons.

Jesualdo Ferreira, the current Porto coach, who has his job at risk due to the bad results of the team.

Sporting- Izmailov is currently the center of attention at Academia de Alcochete (Sporting training center), as he isn't showing up since the draw against At. Madrid, a game where he didn't show up. There are rumours that the russian midfielder wants to leave the portuguese club. However, the club and the player agent deny those rumours. Izmailov has only showed up once since the Europa League game and trained away from the rest of the team.

V. Guimaraes- Emilio Macedo, V. Guimaraes president, was reelected this Sunday. Nilson, the 1st GK, said that his dream was to finish his career in Vit. Guimaraes.

thank you all, it is indeed an hard work, but I kinda like it, and as I have currently some free time.

Cheers and hope you continue following

Very good read. Great layout.

Braga look like they have 2nd in the bag, well ahead of third place. Leixoes and Belenenses look like they will be in the Vitalis next season. Good stuff, keep it up :)

thank you. yes, Braga is getting near and near of a UCL everyday,m while Belenenses are, again, in the bottom of the table (yes, last season they were going to be relegated to Vitalis but due to Estrela de Amadora's financial problems, the Amadora team was relegated to II division and saved Belenenses.

Yeah, their relegation was only delayed. They havent looked good at all form what I have seen on Eurosport(I watch all European Football on there). I also enjoy watching Olhanense, especially Ukra(on loan from Porto). He has been linked with a transfer to my club Newcastle United, as has Fernando Alexandre(Braga). The Liga Sagres is the most under-rated league in Europe, such an entertaining league.

NEWS:

Benfica- Saviola, one of the key players of the eagles, might fail the game against Braga, due to an injury while training. Fabio Coentrao has missed the first trainings before the game against Braga, but will be available for the most important game of the season.

Saviola, the 2nd most scoring player in Benfica

Braga- Carlos Freitas, a director of the northern team, said that the game against Benfica will be decided inside the pitch, and not outside like the 1st game between these teams this season, where Cardozo (Benfica) and Leone (Braga) were shown a red card at the break, due to violence in the tunnels.

carlosfreitas2.JPG

Porto- the blues will face Rio Ave tonight, for the semi finals of the Portuguese Cup.The team will try to return to the victories after an humilliation against Benfica last Sunday.

Bruno Alves, a symbol of the current Portuguese champions, and known for his aggressive way of playing, as you can see in the picture.

Sporting- Pedro Silva, Sporting's right defender, returned from an injury. Ricardo Quaresma is again related to the Lisbon team, being a favourite to come in the summer market.

quaresma1.jpg

V. Guimaraes- Desmarets, one of the key players of the team, is being negotiated in England, and in the next season he will probably play in the Premier League.

Porto just defeated Belenenses for the Portuguese Cup after 30 penalties :@

Belenenses is the last in the league, Porto is the champion and the holder of the cup.

Goals by Lima (Belenenses) at 13', Falcão at 15', Lima again at 80' and Rodríguez at 85'. Rodríguez was sent off at 99' with a Red Card after stoping a counter-attack. The game would only be solved on a pentalty shootout after 30 penalties. High tension match!

Crikey,that's a lot!

I'm managing SL Benfica in my Portugual save and love 'em to bits now.Remind me of Man Utd.

Angel di Maria + Pablo Aimar + Alexis Sanchez + Javier Saviola = Liga Sagres winners ;)

Semi-Finals - First Leg

Rio Ave 1-3 FC Porto
Chaves 1-0 CD Naval

NEWS:

Benfica- the players are being instructed not to get involved in physical confrontations wuth the Braga players, like what happened in the last game between the two leaders of the league. Pedro Proença will be the referee of this game, considered the most important of the season.

tunel.jpg

The incidents at the break of Braga-Benfica

Braga- the appeal for the suspensions put on Vandinho, Ney and Mossoro was denied, and that resulted on an heavy attack by the northern team to the football league.

antoniosalvador3.jpg

Antonio Salvador, Braga's chairman

Porto- the punishments to Hulk and Sapunaru were reduced yesterday from 4 and 5 months respectively to 3 and 4 games. As both players don't play since December, they lost 9 games, and then missed more 6/5 games than the new punishment, which has, obviously, already ended. Raul Meireles, one the team icons, says that they feel wronged and revolted. The blues board of directors has asked the removal from post of all the disciplinary body of the football league, and the current president has already quit. Both players will return to the competition in the game against Belenenses this weekend. The northern team granted yesterday an important victory against Rio Ave (3-1) at Vila do Conde, which will probably reserve a place in the Cup final.

hulksapunaru1.jpg

Hulk and Sapunaru, probably the most "unlucky" players in the portuguese league

Sporting- the game between Benfica and Sporting, originally scheduled to the 11th April, will be now played in the 13th April, in order to give more time for Benfica to recover from the seond leg of Europa League quarter finals against Liverpool. Izmailov is the biggest surprise in the elected team against Maritimo, due to his behaviour last days, not showing in the training centre. Vitor Gomes, a promising midfielder of Rio Ave, is being related to the Lisbon team, if Quaresma negotiations fail.

vitorgomes1.jpg

Vitor Gomes

V. Guimaraes- Nilson, the team goalkeeper, said that Benfica fully deserved the championship this year, and thinks that Sporting is lucky to be in the 3rd place. Carlos Gonçalves, Desmarets agent, reunited yesterday with the representatives of an unknown Premier League club, which is thought to be Fulham due to the good relations that Gonçalves keeps with the Craven Cottage club.

NEWS TOMORROW

---------- Post added at 08:10 PM ---------- Previous post was yesterday at 11:41 PM ----------

NEWS:

Benfica- Rui Costa, the club football director, was suspended for 45 days by the Portuguese League due to his appearance in the Estadio AXA tunnel in the game Sp. Braga vs Benfica, in the 6th fixture of Liga Sagres, but the ex-AC Milan player will appeal on the suspension. Yesterday the entire team traveled to Liverpool, but Saviola, Weldon and Mantorras stayed in Lisbon due to injuries. In the game against LFC, Jorge Jesus, Benfica coach, might play with David Luiz as LB instead of his natural position, CB.

ruicosta5.jpg

Rui Costa, Benfica's director for football

Braga- hundreds of supporters went to Estadio AXA training center after the "arsenalistas" victory against their greatest rival, V. Guimaraes. Carlos Freitas, Braga's director for football, was suspended along with Rui Costa, but due to his statements on the refereeing in Portugal. Hugo Viana, on loan from Valencia, is in doubt for the game against U. Leiria this weekend.

madridealan1.jpg

Andres Madrid and Alan, two of the key players at the northern surprise

Porto- After the victory against Maritimo, Jesualdo Ferreira said that the team would keep fighting for the 2nd place and the qualification for the UCL. Falcao said that his goal was the best in his career (I attach the goal in this post). Raul Meireles, Cristian Rodriguez and Nuno Coelho are able to face Rio Ave, while Fredy Guarin won't play against Carlos Brito's team.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bpc5MZ9YvSw"]YouTube- Golo de Falcao - Maritimo J.25 4.04.10[/ame]

Sporting- the Lisbon club announced that Carlos Carvalhal won't be the team's manager in the following season. The rumours abouth the next Sporting's coach appear everyday, with Tigana, Claude Puel, Domingos Paciencia and Andre Villas Boas are the most probable names, but Sporting already said that Villas Boas, former Mourinho's assistant, current Academica's coach won't be the next trainer. The team's players are being linked (or dislinked) to several clubs. Pereirinha is being observed by Bolton, Izmailov is the main targetfor Lokomotiv Moscow, and it is said that Wigan won't sign in Vladimir Stojkovic due to his poor exhibitions, particularly against Man City. Carlos Carvalhal has the whole squad available in Tuesday game against Benfica, in the Lisbon biggest derby and Portugal biggest classic.

claudepuel1.jpg

Claude Puel, currently O. Lyon's manager and probably the successor of Carlos Carvalhal at Sporting

V. Guimaraes- after the team's defeat against Braga, and due to the bad refereeing, the chairman of the club has asked for the repetition of the game, where five players were punished with red card

-emilio_macedo.jpg

Emilio Macedo, Guimaraes' chairman

And now, the brand new PCastro Corner :P

Well, first of all, I'd like to introduce this new section. In this section I will give my opinion about some news. Let me say that I support Benfica, so it is obvious that Sporting and Porto will be more criticised than Benfica. However, I will always try to keep my feelings aside (;))

Benfica- Haven't much to say, the game against Liverpool will certainly be the most difficult game of our campaign in EL, but I think we can win, even without the referee we had in the 1st leg.

Braga- Just hope they keep the 2nd place and put Porto away from the UCL. But then, I hope they get eliminated (and that's probably what's going to happen) so that all the TV rights are gave to Benfica :P

Porto- They are starting to annoy me, Hulk return gave the team really good football and wins. Falcao is just amazing, I think he is even better than Cardozo (I know, in FM Cardozo is far better), as his latest exhibitions are being really poor, he just knows how to score penalties and easy goals that any footballer can score.

Sporting- The only thing I have to say about the future manager is: A poor team won't win anything if you just change the coach. Their problem is deeper than that. They are trying to keep Miguel Veloso. Joao Moutinho and many other players in the club, but the only thing they are doing is making their football worse. And about the derby, I know that the difference between the teams is 23 points, but it is going to be a though game, they are really motivated, and they have nothing to lose. I'm going to see the game live and every derby I see is won by Benfica, just hope it keeps this way...
