Manchester United crushes Arsenal at Old Trafford

The biggest match of the fourth Premier League matchday was played at Old Trafford, where Manchester United faced Arsenal. Both teams hadn’t lost a point in the previous three matches, promising an exciting match with two equal teams. Nothing was less true as United humiliated Arsenal in a 5-0 victory.

In the 5th minute it was former-Arsenal player Van Persie who delivered a deep cross into the box, where Juan Mata slipped away from the attention of Koscielny and scored the 1-0 from an almost impossible angle. Arsenal goalie Szczesny only touched the ball with one hand, raising the question if it was a stoppable shot from Mata. After 15 minutes it was Van Persie himself to score the 2-0. He dropped a long ball with a header before the feet of Wayne Rooney, who create some space with a quick turn-around and delivered a great deep ball to Van Persie, who scored with a clinical finish.

Satisfaction from the United squad
after the 2-0 against Arsenal

First big chance for Arsenal was for ex-Mancunian Danny Welbeck after a pass of Cazorla, but his shot ended up a few centimeters near the post. Just before half-time United conceived themselves a comfortable 3-0 lead. A corner from Rooney was cleared with a header from Koscielny. The ball landed for the right foot of Ander Herrera, who decided to volley the ball and via the back of the unfortunate Kieran Gibbs it went into the net behind the chanceless Szczesny.

United kept going after half-time, as it was an important interception of Rafael on the half of Arsenal which formed the basis for the 4-0, demonstrating the dominance from Manchester over Arsenal. After the interception Young played it to Rooney and a trough ball from him was promoted to an assist by Robin van Persie. A light injury forced the outstanding Van Persie to leave the pitch 10 minutes later, substituted by Radamel Falcao. Also Luke Shaw was brought in for Blind, meaning that he made his official debut after a hamstring injury.

Arsenal got the opportunity to do something back in the 72th minute, as Podolski anticipated very well on a blind long ball of Chambers. However De Gea was able to make a great save to the attempt of Podolski. Only a few minutes later Cazorla prevented Arsenal from conceding another goal, as he made a goal line clearance after a shot from Rojo. This was just a delay of another United goal. Just before the final whistle it was Gibbs again who made a huge error with a worse clearance. It ended up at Herrera, who played it to Di Maria. The Argentinean had all the time of the world to play a pass behind Debuchy, enabling Juan Mata to score his second goal of the afternoon.

A standing ovation erupted at Old Trafford right after the final whistle. At the press conference Louis van Gaal was clearly in a good mood, as opposed to his colleague Arsène Wenger. Van Gaal: “ What a great feeling it is to set a monster score against a top club like Arsenal. I’m sure the fans will have a great weekend and are enjoyed by our play today. It’s great to score five goals against a strong opponent with a lot of experience in the defence. Also I want to compliment my own defence, who remained a clean sheet. It was an amazing day.”

Manchester United is now on the top of the table, winning every match so far. It looks that Louis van Gaal has got his team on the right track, after struggling through their preseason. One of the things to point out is the position of Ángel Di Maria. During preseason he played as a winger, but Louis van Gaal placed him as a central midfielder in the competition so far, with success. Also Marcos Rojo really looks like a good signing, judging on his performances so far. Now it’s up to United to keep performing as strong as they do now and maybe they can lift up the Premier League trophy at the end of the season.

Crazy amount of detail you are putting in here mate, are you sure you can keep it up for a full season?

Crazy amount of detail you are putting in here mate, are you sure you can keep it up for a full season?

Thanks a lot pal. I will try to do so. My intention is to make a detailed report of the big Premier League matches I play (like against Chelsea and Arsenal). Other results aren't described very detailed, like the 2-0 victory over Newcastle was only mentioned in the post of the Monthly awards.

Stay tuned mate, as my next match will be against Liverpool and another detailed report will follow.

Manchester United dominates team of the week

It was as clear as a whistle that a few Manchester United players would become selected for the Premier League team of the week after their 5-0 victory over Arsenal. The announcement of the team of the week made clear that the performance of United was praised. A whopping number of seven Mancunians made it into the final team.

Almost the whole defence was selected, including goalkeeper David De Gea (7.7), right-back Rafael (8.3), the centre-backs Phil Jones (8.9) and Marcos Rojo (8.8). Only the left-back position was captured by a non-Mancunian, namely Everton-player Leighton Baines who scored two penalties. Marcos Rojo has proved to be a missing link in the United squad the season before. Since he came over from Sporting this summer, he impressed with great performances, forming a rock solid duo with fellow centre back Phil Jones. They already are compared by United Fans to the legendary Vidic/Ferdinand duo back in the days.

Wayne Rooney (9), Juan Mata (9.4) and Van Persie (9.3) were the other Manchester United players selected. Aiden McGeady, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Soldado completed the best eleven players of the week.

Winning streak continues for Manchester United

Manchester United has won all of their five matches so far, making a head start in the title race. Latest victory in the streak was over rival Liverpool at Anfield in the North-West derby. The team of Louis van Gaal defeated Liverpool with 3-1 in an equal ongoing match.

It lasted 12 minutes before the first big chance of the match arose. Van Persie shot from 6 metres straight at the feet of Mignolet after a pass of Di Maria. The rebound landed before the feet of Young, who brought it back in the penalty area. Di Maria was first to arrive to the ball and shot on target, but Mignolet still held his goal clean with an amazing reflex. The relief of Liverpool fans was tangible at Anfield.

Then it was up to Liverpool to create some opportunities for themselves. First it was Balotelli with a strike that hit the inside of the post after a pass of debutant Lallana. Thereafter Anfield lived up as Sakho scored with a close-range attempt after a free kick from Gerrard, but the linesman held his flag up. Replays showed it was a close, but correct call.

Just before half-time the spectacle started. In the 41th minute United took the lead with a smashing header straight in the top corner from Phil Jones after a corner from Rooney. Two minutes later Anfield became completely silent. Liverpool captain and legend Gerrard was responsible for the 2-0 of United with a wrong pass that was intercepted by Young. Young reached Rooney, who served Van Persie in a completely free position. Van Persie remained calm and held the overview to lay the ball aside where Juan Mata had an easy shot at open goal, signing for the 2-0.
Liverpool gained a great chance, still in first half, but right at the moment Borini wanted to strike the ball behind De Gea, it was Rojo who prevented the goal with a superb sliding.

Right after half-time Liverpool came back in the match. A cross from Alberto Moreno was headed by Balotelli to Lallana, who’s attempt landed in the bottom corner. Just 5 minutes after the 2-1 all Liverpool hope for a comeback disappeared. Glenn Johnson made a complete unnecessary two-feet forward tackle on Van Persie, getting the direct red card from referee Lee Mason.

In the 62th minute Van Persie made his second goal and decided the game. He gained the ball in a scrimmage and his shot was deflected by Gerrard, leaving Mignolet no chance. After this goal, Liverpool pressed Manchester United back, leading to a more defensive tactic of the Mancunians. Liverpool created to more good opportunities, but didn’t score due to amazing saves of De Gea, thereby ending the game in a 3-1 victory for Manchester United.

Match facts:

Liverpool (4-1-2-1-2): Mignolet 6.5; G. Johnson 6.5, Skrtel 7, Sakho 7, A. Moreno 6.5; Gerrard 6.5; Henderson 6.5, J. Allen 6.5 (Lucas Leiva 63, 6.5); Lallana 7 (Coutinho 80); Balotelli 6.5, Borini 6.5 (Flanagan 55, 7)
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea 7; Rafael 7, P. Jones 8, Rojo 7.5, Blind 7; A. Herrera 7, Di Maria 7.5; A. Young 7 (Januzaj 68, 7), Rooney 9 (Carrick 8), Mata 7.5; Van Persie 7.5

Bookings: Liverpool: Lucas Leiva, G. Johnson (red card)

Haha, already thought you would like it! I'm satisfied the way we play currently, especially because the preseason wasn't that great. Hope i can keep up the good performances.

And the monthly awards of September go to...

The second round of personal prizes took place in the Premier League. After a first month win for Manager of the Month, it's expected that Louis van Gaal again brings the award home this month after a 100% win ratio. Also, the player of the month could very well be a Mancunian as well. Twice they totally dominated the team of the week with 7 and 8 players, indicating for their great form of the moment.

The Player of the Month award this time went to Juan Mata, rated with an average of 8.77. The podium was completed by fellow Mancunians Wayne Rooney (9.07) and Marcos Rojo (8.53). Juan Mata scored 3 goals and delivered 3 assists, thus being responsible for 2 goals per match this month.

The Young Player of the Month award this time went to Romelu Lukaku, who scored 2 goals in 3 matches and got an average rating of 7.50. His election made clear that the definite move to Everton was a good step for his carreer. Second place was for Leicester City left-back Jeffrey Schlupp, followed by fellow companion Nick Powell. It was the second time that Nick Powell reached a third place, leading to speculations that Louis van Gaal wants to bring his youngster back to Old Trafford.

Big favourite for the Manager of the Month award was Louis van Gaal, who also won it previous month. His victories over Arsenal (5-0), Liverpool (1-3) and Crystal Palace (6-0) were recognized as he won the trophy for the second time in a row. In Manchester Van Gaal really lives up to his reputation as top manager, and it's up to him to keep it that way. Runner-up became Chelsea manager Mourinho, also winning 3 out of 3, and the third place was for Roberto Martinez.

Thanks mate. I appreciate it very much that you follow my story so closely. It's always nice to get some comments. Wilson looks like a really future topplayer indeed. With his pace he will be a nightmare for every defence i guess?;) I immediately offered him a contract until 2019 after your comment.

Van Gaal signs new contract

Manchester United chairman Ed Woodward announced that Louis van Gaal has signed a new contract. This contract keeps the Dutch Manager in Manchester until June 2018. His salary of £80k per week remains the same. Louis van Gaal joined Manchester United this summer with a one-year contract. The great performances of United have convinced the board to offer him a new four-year contract, only 4 months after his first workday.

Ed Woodward explained it as followed to the press: “ We offered Louis a contract for a year, so he could prove that he was capable to achieve our goals. With Moyes we made the mistake to sign him a six-year contract and because the results stayed out, we had to sack him only 10 months later. We had to pay a very high ransom to Moyes, but we learned from our flaw with Louis. It had nothing to do with a lack of confidence, as we were well known with Van Gaal’s reputation as manager. We therefore are very satisfied that he signed a new four-year contract and hope he’ll bring us some silverware in the next years. If his recent performances are an indication for his period at Manchester, we’ll sure can lift the Premier League trophy in the air within a few seasons.”

Louis van Gaal himself was obviously pleased with his deal as he stated: “ I want to thank the board for the faith they have in me, considering this new contract. The process to make United the best club of England again goes very prosperous. I hope I’ll eventually can make United even champions of Europe and expand their history. With the recent performances of my players, it’s an easy job to be manager of United.”

Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate the feedback. Still wondering how I can make my pictures larger so you viewers do not have to click the picture to read it. Maybe you´ve got an idea on how to do this?

I'm not entirely sure but I think if you minimise the window and then take a screenshot it comes out bigger, rather than taking a full screen screenshot.
