The Reign of King Louis: Glory for Manchester United

And the monthly awards of October go to...

It's that time of the month again, when the awards are given to the best performers of last month in the Barclays Premier League. Again it's expected that Manchester United will bring in some competitors, especially for Player of the Month with the recent performances of Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. Concurrence may come from the side of Everton since they had a great month as well and currently are positioning the second place, three points behind Manchester United.

The Player of the Month this time became Mancunian Wayne Rooney, who switched places with September winner Juan Mata. Mata now was elected as runner-up and third place went to Newcastle-player Facundo Ferreyra. Rooney scored 4 goals in 3 matches and was rated with an average of 8.70. Mata scored 3 goals and was rated a 8.27 and Ferreyra scored a 7.97 with 4 goals. Notably was the missing of Robin van Persie, who played only two matches this month, but scored 3 goals and delivered an astonishing amount of 7 assists.

The award for Young Player of the Month went to Luke Shaw, who was rated an 8.03 over his 3 appearances. Best performances were against Hull City and Southampton, whereas he didn't do a great job against Swansea. Runner-up became Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who already won this trophy in August. He proves to be of important value for Arsenal this season. Third place went to United loanie Wilfried Zaha. It was the third time that a United loanie ended third as Young Player of the Month, since Nick Powell achieved it the two previous months.

Last but not least was the prestigious election for Manager of the Month. This time's winner became Mauro Pochettini who led the Spurs to 3 victories 3 matches. Runner-up became Everton boss Roberto Martínez, who moved one place up since the September award. Third place went to Louis van Gaal with 7 points out of 3 matches. He fell in the prizes for the third time this seasons after wining the two previous awards.

I'm not entirely sure but I think if you minimise the window and then take a screenshot it comes out bigger, rather than taking a full screen screenshot.

Ah okay, thanks mate. Definitely will try it in the future posts and hope it will work.

Loving this thread! Will follow on it's a great read and I love seeing us finally do well again. Keep it up.

Welcome everybody to Matchday live, broadcasted to you by talkSPORT. Today I, Adrian Durham, will give you live coverage of the Manchester Derby played at Old Trafford. We all are wondering which team will give their fans the so wanted victory over their rival. Will it be Louis van Gaal with Manchester United? So far the United squad performed excellent and are still undefeated. Only 2 points were lost in a draw against Swansea City. Or will it be Manchester City of Pellegrini that puts an end to the status of United and will take the three points back to the Eastlands? We’ll find out in a minute.

But first let’s take a look at the line ups for today. Louis van Gaal didn’t come up with any surprised as we can see. They begin the match in there relied 4-2-3-1 formation. De Gea will guard the goal, helped by his defence existing of Rafael, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw. They only conceded 5 goals in 9 matches so far. Just before the defence plays central midfielder Ander Herrera, who will provide the build-up for United. Di Maria is the other central midfielder, however he is expected to roam all over the pitch, looking for some match-deciding passes. Young and Mata will provide the danger from the wings and Wayne Rooney plays just behind the only real striker Robin van Persie.
Manchester City will play a 4-4-1-1 formation with Joe Hart in the goal. Defence exists of Sagna, Kompany, Nastasic and Glichy. The 4 midfielders are Jesús Navas on the right, Fernandinho and Yaya Touré as central duo and James Milner on the left wing. Only attacking midfielder today will be Samir Nasri and only striker is Dzeko. Two big names are missing due to injuries. Spanish playmaker David Silva has a hernia and striker Agüero has his cheekbone broken.

Let’s go to Old Trafford were the players make their entrances to the pitch. The tension is sensible for this match and it’s surely going to be a hot football afternoon. Referee today will be Neil Swarbrick. Old Trafford is sold out and the 75,797 spectators can’t wait for the match to start. Some United legends, such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes and of course Sir Alex Ferguson, are present on the stands. There is the first whistle of Swarbrick and we’re started.

8’ Fernandinho plays the ball up front to Nasri. Nasri sets Dzeko one-to-one against De Gea. Dzeko shoots! Oh, straight at the hands of De Gea and the ball is kicked behind by Herrera. Dzeko should have delivered a better attempt. The corner kick is driven in by Milner but Di Maria clears it with a header. Ball ends up with van Persie, who plays it down the line to Mata. A counter is in the making for United. Mata’s pass ends up to Herrera. He plays it to Rooney. The trough ball from Rooney is a good one and Van Persie attempts a strike! Great save by Joe Hart! Wow, what an exciting start of the match so far!

12’ United gets a corner kick. Rooney drives it in and there is Phil Jones with the header. It ends up straight in the top corner: 1-0! Jones escaped from the attention of Dzeko and his header left Hart and line stopper Milner absolutely no chance.

21’ Another corner kick from Wayne Rooney. This time it’s cleared by Dzeko. The ball lands in front of Van Persie at the edge of the box. He slips past Glichy and plays it to Young. Young with a shot! Oh, lucky City as the post denies a 2-0 lead for United. United is dominating so far.

38’ We’ve seen no big chances for a while. City comes forward now with a long build-up attack. Dzeko receives the ball and holds off Jones. Oh, good pass from Dzeko behind the defence where Nasri can pick it up. The Frenchman remains calm and shoots is past De Gea in the bottom corner: 1-1! Old Trafford is really silent at the moment.

45’ Young is in the penalty area just before the backline. He keeps Nastasic and Fernandinho busy. Good move from Young and he delivers a low cross. There’s Van Persie in front of the goal! His shot ends straight in the hands of Joe Hart. Van Persie should have done better and score from only 7 meters. This was the last action of the first half in which United was dominant but City was able to equalize.

46’ The second half is on its way. Van Persie is left behind after he got a light injury in the first half. Falcao is his replacement.

49’ James Milner drives a corner in high. The ball is going to a bunch of players. Yaya Touré comes up high and heads it straight into the net behind De Gea: 1-2! The City fans go absolutely nuts!

53’ Corner kick for United. Wayne Rooney crosses it and it’s Phil Jones who heads it towards the goal. His header hits the underside of the crossbar and it’s in: 2-2! Another goal from Phil Jones and United is back in the game. Set pieces really are an important feature today.

55’ Herrera in possession half way the City half. He plays a deep cross ball to Mata. Mata heads it in front of the goal and there’s Falcao. Falcao has an easy finish in the open goal: 3-2! But wait. The linesman’s flag is up. Swarbrick cancels the goal as Falcao was offside. That’s a dubious call. Van Gaal is absolutely furious! The replay shows Falcao wasn’t offside as he stood behind the ball when Mata played it. United is incorrectly denied a goal.

64’ Young with the throw to Falcao. Falcao dribbles it past Glichy and heads for the backline. Fernandinho is too late to intercept and Falcao strikes for goal! Joe Hart was positioned well and denied United a goal.

66’ Young delivers the cross in. Falcao comes in front of Nastasic and gives his everything. He hits the ball with a sliding, but it hits the post! Relief for City, as United is once more unlucky this afternoon.

68’ United is really pushing City back. Rooney plays the ball trough to Juan Mata. Mata delivers the ball to Falcao, who is in front of the goal. Falcao with a blasting strike! Once more Joe Hart prevents a goal from the Colombian striker with an amazing reflex. It looks like it’s just a matter of time for United to take the lead.

76’ The ball is played to Munir El Haddadi inside the box. He turns away from his direct opponent Kolarov, who touches him lightly. Munir falls to the ground and raises his arms in the air. Neil Swarbrick blows his whistle and points to the spot! Kolarov can’t believe it. It seemed like an easy given penalty for United.

77’ After some arguing from City with the referee it’s time for the penalty. Falcao steps up to take it. There’s the whistle and Falcao makes a run. He strikes the ball hard and high and it ends up straight in the top corner: 3-2! Joe Hart had absolutely no chance to this attempt from Falcao.

79’ City deserves a corner. Kolarov is going to take it. He drives it in to the first post. There is Yaya Touré and he heads the ball in once more: 3-3! United couldn’t enjoy their lead for long. Yaya Touré was completely uncovered and could head it in easily.

81’ United is looking for the lead again. The ball arrives to Rooney. Rooney turns around quickly and finds himself in some space. He strikes from just outside the box and the ball aims for the right corner! Again it’s a great save from Joe Hart and the draw is still standing. The corner is taken by Di Maria, but it gets cleared. Di Maria receives the ball back and crosses it in from the touchline. Rooney receives the ball and plays it back to Falcao. Falcao strikes it on target! Another superb save from Hart. He is really outstanding today, although he conceded three goals already.

90+3’ Swarbrick with the final whistle. That’s it ladies and gentlemen. We saw an absolute thriller here at Old Trafford which ended in a 3-3 draw. United was the better side today and for them this will feel as a loss. City can thank their goalkeeper Joe Hart, who had a great performance.

The match stats show no doubt about who deserved the win. United had 31 attempts of which 15 on target. City only shot 8 times, of which 6 were on target. City really was efficient today. United created 5 clear cut chances and City just 1. Corners proved their importance today, leading to 4 goals. United had 16 corner kicks and City just 5. Ball possession also was in the slight favor of Manchester United with 57%. Phil Jones was chosen as Man of the Match, scoring two goals. Other high ratings were for Wayne Rooney (2 assists), Yaya Touré (2 goals) and Joe Hart, who made some superb saves. Overall it was United which was the better side, but they should have rewarded themselves with so many chances. When they took the 3-2 lead I thought that they would hold on to it and claim the victory over their rival, but they couldn’t.

I thank you all for listening to Matchday Live here at talkSPORT. I’m Adrian Durham and I say to you: good afternoon.

De Gea goes nowhere: new five-year contract for United goalie

Today, 23 November, Manchester United announced that David De Gea has signed a new contract till June 2019. His old contract expired on 30 June 2016. De Gea will earn a salary of £99k per week, a total of almost £26 million in 5 years. With his new contract he turned the rumours about a move to Real Madrid to be wrong.

De Gea is momently in great form for Manchester United. He kept a clean sheet in 7 of the 12 matches in the Premier League so far. As precarious as he was in his previous seasons, he now proves to be a world-class goalkeeper. His amazing reflexes make it hard to get the ball past him, even from close range.

Louis van Gaal was satisfied with the assurance that he can use the services of his goalie for a long time. " De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers of the world. This season he is an essential part of our great results so far. After his move from Spain to England he had a hard time to get used to the Premier League, but it seems he is beyond that point. With him just turning 24 years old, United has a excellent goalkeeper for at least another ten years if they can keep him here."

Going strong mate. What a game against shity.

Thanks mate. Yeah, a real thriller it was. Should have won it however, since our Colombian friend upfront should have scored at least one field goal as well. Also the performance of Hart was amazing. I really thought that I would take the victory after the 3-2, but unfortunately it wasn't the case.

And the monthly awards of November go to...

The elections for best performers of November have past. The Player of the Month became Manchester City player Sergio Agüero. Scoring 4 goals in 3 appearances delivered him an average rating of 8.07. Eden Hazard and Juan Mata weren’t far behind Agüero, scoring a rating of 7.93 and 7.80 respectively. Sergio Agüero scored 2 goals in the 2-2 draw of City against Chelsea. The oither 2 goals he scored against Newcastle (3-0). It was the second time that Eden Hazard finished as runner-up, in August and now in November. Juan Mata was for the third consecutive time on the podium, earlier winning the award in September and the second place in October.

The Young Player of the Month became Romelu Lukaku. It was his second win of this trophy as he won it previously in August. This month he scored twice against West Ham United and he was rated a 7.18. October winner Luke Shaw became runner-up. His performances were rated higher than Lukaku’s (7.47) so it was quite remarkable that he didn’t win again. The third place was for 21-year old centre back Nastasic who is rotated frequently by Manchester City boss Pellegrini. He was rated with a 7.03 over 4 appearances.

For the third time in four months Louis van Gaal was awarded with the Manager of the Month trophy. This month he led Manchester United to three victories and one draw against rival Manchester City. José Mourinho finished runner-up for the second time (earlier in September) this season. Harry Redknapp claimed the third place, leading his QPR to 3 victories and only a loss against Van Gaal’s United.

Easy win for Manchester United

After the top match Arsenal against Manchester City (1-1), there was another Premier League thriller this mathday between a Manchester and a London side. Tottenham Hotspur faced United at Old Trafford. Mauro Pochettino had the possibility to overtake their rival Arsenal in the table, and United wanted to extend their undefeated streak of 13 matches so far.

The game was barely started, when Tottenham already faced a tough afternoon. It was Van Persie who scored in the 2th minute, giving United an early lead and great start. Van Persie played a deep ball to Young. Young made a run to the backline, covered by Rose and Vertonghen. Then he made a quick stop and ran towards the goal, outsmarting the Tottenham defenders. The cross of Young reached Van Persie, who had a lot of time for his first touch, and he blasted it in the goal, leaving his fellow countryman Vorm no chance.

In minute 10 it became a mission impossible for Tottenham to take some points towards London, as Evans scored with a header. Wayne Rooney delivered a free kick from the left side into the box, where Evans jumped the highest, followed by a great header into the net.

Even before half-time the match was decided, when United took a 3-0 lead. Van Persie kicked the corner and Rojo could produce a header. His ball seems to go off target, but it was Evans who could give the ball a touch over the goal line, scoring his second goal. Just before half-time Van Persie got another huge opportunity, but he hit the ball wild and it went over the Tottenham goal.

Jonny Evans was of great value for
United scoring two goals

The second half was a formality. Both teams didn't do much, since they knew the 3 points were for Manchester United. Just before the final whistle Rafael received a red card. He made a unnecessary tackle on Lennon and got booked for the second time. He received his first yellow just 2 minutes earlier. In the injury time produced their one and only big chance. Youngster Nathan Oduwa delivered a beautiful deep cross to Lennon, who took it at once, but his volley was catched by De Gea. It was United who dominated this match and ensured themselves of the win right in the beginning of the match.

Van Gaal looked pleased during the press conference: " We had a great start today with the early goals of Robin and Jonny. That put us in a comfortable position where we could control the match and make it dead. I know the second half wasn't spectacular, but I hope the fans are satisfied with the victory and our leading position in the Premier League. Now we'll aim our focus towards the game against Everton, who are currently in great form."

Everton puts and end to United's undefeated streak

The match at Goodison Park between Manchester United and Everton was a clash between respectively the numbers one and three of the Premier League. The home team are performing above expectations this season andif they keep up this form they see themselves competing for the title at the end of the season. United leads the table after still being undefeated after 13 matches.

First opportunity of the match was for Everton in the 6th minute. Leighton Baines received the ball at the sideline after his corner was cleared. His cross ended up for Lukaku’s feet, who hammered the ball straight behind De Gea and signed for an early Everton lead. Just before the half hour mark Lukaku tried a bicycle kick, but unfortunately for him it hit the crossbar. United wasn’t playing well first half, but in the injury time they got a chance to equalize. Rooney made a great rush and deliverd it to Ashley Young, but his attempt was saved well by Howard.

After half-time United was close to the 1-1. Van Persie dribbled past Jagielka inside the box, but his shot ended on the crossbar above Howard. The rebound was for Van Persie as well, but this time his shot deflected on Jagielka’s leg and went behind.
One minute later a counter-attack from Everton ended at Baines, but his shot was stopped by De Gea. Right after the corner kick United countered via Young. With his pace he slipped past Distin, but his shot from a difficult angle was an easy save for Howard.
Then United received two chances, which weren’t scored by Van Persie and Di Maria, before Van Persie made the equalizer, but he was flagged offside. Louis van Gaal intervened and brought Falcao on the pitch. Just ten minutes after his entrance he scored the 1-1, after Howard allowed a rebound from a volley from Fellaini. United gave away their hard-fought draw within two minutes, when Lukaku was able to score from a scrimmage. United once more pushed forward, but the post prevented a goal from Van Persie. In the injury time Everton countered to a 3-1 victory with a goal from Naismith.

And the monthly awards of December go to...

It was a full program for the Premier Leagues this month. Whereas most of European football leagues have a winter break, here in England it's the month of the year for sportsfans. The traditional boxing day with a full schedule and only two days later another game make it a tough schedule for players. But who where the best performers in the 6 machdays of December? Let's find out!

The Player of the Month was for Chelsea-player Juan Cuadrado. Since his move from Fiorentine to London he proved to be a great signing of Mourinho, displaying great performances so far. This month he excelled with an average rating of 7.82, scoring 6 goals in 6 appearances. Runner-up was fellow Chelsea-player Eden Hazard. He was rated an 7.93 over 6 appearances, netting 4 goals. The recognition of both Chelsea players was obviously due to there 100% winning this month. Third place was for Robin van Persie, who scored 5 goals in 6 matches and was rated 7.68. It was remarkable that this was his first recognition in the monthly awards since he displays a lethal form throughout the season so far.

The best young performer of December was again won by Luke Shaw. Since his £31 million move to Manchester he proved to be an excellent left-back and definitely one of the future stars of football. He was rated a 7.40 over 6 matches. Other future England star and former Southampton back Calum Chambers was picked as runner-up, scoring an average rating of 7.18. Third place was captured by Spanish midfielder Diego Poyet (7.02), who is of great value for West Ham United so far.

The Manager of the Month award this time went to José Mourinho. He was expected to win it, after he led his team to a victory in every match this month. After finishing two times behind his old mentor Louis van Gaal, he now was chosen the better one. Louis van Gaal became second, winning 5 out of 6 (loss against Everton). Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger completed the podium, winning 5 matches of their 7 appreances this month.

My sincere apologies to all my followers, but my next post will be delayed to this sunday. I tried to post at least once a day some new content to my thread, but due to a selection round for a Master study at the University I´m very busy last week and therefore today and tomorrow probably no new content will be posted. Hope you all stay tuned as the Ballon d´Or elections are coming up!

Kate Abdo: " Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Zürich, where we will hand out the Ballon d'Or this evening. I will be your host for the evening, Kate Abdo. It's that time of the year again when the best football players of the World from 2014 are chosen. National team managers and their captains, as well as some journalists, have the right to vote. Will it be a battle between Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi again, or is something suprising about to happen. Let's find out. Here's the President of the FIFA, Sepp Blatter, who will hand out the Ballon d'Or to the best perfomer of 2014."

Sepp Blatter: " Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the annually ceremony where the best footballer of last year is chosen. It was a beautiful football year, with an exciting World Cup in Brazil. The Germans proved to be the best of the world and became 'weltmeister'. But which individual was the best? Let's see what's in the envelope.
And the winner of the Ballon d'Or 2014 is... Robin van Persie! Congratulations Robin, you deserve it. Your year has been with ups and downs. You had a though start of this year, not playing to well, but it changed after your great goal against Spain during the World Cup. Right after the World Cup you proved your value for Manchester United so far, and your performances are outstanding. Well done!"
Kate Abdo: "Congratulations Robin! You can come forward and you'll can say what you'd like to!"

Runner-up became Lionel Messi and the third place was claimed by other Mancunian Wayne Rooney. It was a suprise that Cristiano Ronaldo didn't end up on the podium, as he is one of the best footballers of the moment.

Robin van Persie: " Thankyou Kate and mister Blatter. I'm really thankful to the people who voted for me. It's a great suprise for me to win this award, because I thought, as so many of you, that it was going to be a battle between Lionel and Cristiano. My respect to them is great, but it's an honour to finish above them and take the Ballon d'Or back home. Also I would like to thank my beautiful wife and children! Bouchra, i love you!"

Kate Abdo: " Let's continue to the World Team of the Year, which includes 18 players (the first eleven and seven substitutes). The formation in which the players are selected is a 4-2-3-1. As goalkeeper is picked Gianluigi Buffon from Juventus.
