Leicester City travelled to Turf Moor to face Burnley in the 3rd round of the League Cup. Leicester’s Scottish midfielder Tom Cairney almost gave the foxes the lead with a thunderous shot after 4 minutes but it hit Lee Grant’s crossbar. The ball bounced kindly into Lee Grant’s hands and after a punt up field fell to De Ridder he finished with power after a Bruno Berner mistake. Straight from the kick-off Darius Vassell almost equalised but his shot was held by Lee Grant. Lee Grant made another good save 3 minutes later from Paul Gallagher. 3 minutes later a ball in from Kyle Naughton was headed in by Martyn Waghorn but the goal was rightly disallowed. Tom Cairney was once again close to scoring a 30 yard thunderbolt but this time Lee Grant somehow tipped it wide. Despite only having 1 shot on target Burnley were somehow on top thanks to Lee Grant and the crossbar.
Straight from the 2nd half kick-off Chris Eagle went past 3 Leicester player but was denied a fantastic goal by Ricardo’s feet. On 57 minutes it looked like Leicester has equalised but Miguel Vitor’s header was first cleared off the line by Dennis Appiah and his rebound was saved by Lee Grant. Next to be thwarted by Grant was substitute Steve Howard who’s shot was clawed away by ‘Keeper Grant. Ricardo’s mistake almost gifted Burnley a goal by on-loan Tottenham defender Kyle Naughton was on hand to clear off the line. Grant’s brilliance earned Burnley a place in the 4th round and a Man of the Match award, he spoke to the press after;
“I’m delighted to of been awarded Man of the Match and delighted to of earned a win against a very good Leicester team who troubled us all game, the defence stayed strong but they deserved the win, that’s football though if you don’t put away your chances you’re not going to score.”

Leicester City scored for the first time in 4 games to win to halt a losing streak of 4 after a 4-1 against QPR. The first goal for Leicester in a game of which they took charge of from the word go was from former England striker Darius Vassell who finished from 20 yards after neat play from Franck Moussa and Andy King. The 2nd goal of the game for Leicester and the first of 2 from Yakubu came feom the penalty spot 38 minutes in after Belgian Franck Moussa was brought down by Maxime Baca. Yakubu emphatically sent Paddy Kenny the wrong way to put Leicester 2-0 up and give them a comfortable lead going into half-time.
Leicester’s dominance continued in the 2nd half with Vassell going close to getting his 2nd after some neat play by Yakubu meant Vassell had a chance to put the Foxes 3-0 up but his effort was acrobatically tipped onto the post by Kenny. QPR thought they had a way back into the game when skipper Adel Taarabt scored but his effort was ruled offside by the assistant referee. Leicester did however go 3 up after a Kasper Gorkss mistake left Yakubu and open goal to score into from 6 yards which the Yak duly obliged to do. QPR did eventually score through Scotland international Jamie Mackie as he scored an effort from 4 yards after a Sean Derry corner eluded Sol Bamba. It was Leicester who however had the last laugh as Man of the Match Franck Moussa’s ball was headed in past Paddy Kenny by Ben Mee, that his first senior goal. Martin O’Neill spoke to BBC Radio Leicester saying;
“It’s so good to get back to winning ways after a difficult run of 4 losses in a row, morale was low but this win has done wonders for the confidence and hopefully we can win a few more and catapult the us up the table into the promotion places.”

Millen Sacked!
Millen applauds the Robins fans in his last game in charge
Today Bristol City boss Keith Millen was sacked by chairman Steve Lansdown just 11 games into the campaign, the Robins who lie in 16th place had disappointed many fans after a horror start to the campaign. Picking up just 13 points out of 33. Millen had been without star player Nicky Maynard who isn't due back until January but Lansdown obviously felt he couldn't wait for Maynard's return. Millen took over from Steve Coppell in the summer after Coppell decided to leave the Robins weeks after he was appointed.
More to follow.

Hornets dent Foxes title dreams
Sordell secured the Hornets victory
Watford manager Malky Mackay made 3 changes to his team that beat Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday. Mackay bringing Lee Hodson in for Martin Taylor. He also bough in Stephen McGinn and Marvin Sordell in for Ross Jenkins and Troy Deeney.
Leicester made 6 changes for the team that faced Watford at Vicarage road. There was a surprise change in goal as English youngster Alex Smithies came in for experienced Portuguese ‘Keeper Ricardo. Vice-Captain Jack Hobbs came in for Sol Bamba. The other 3 changes were Cairney in for Wellens, Waghorn for Moussa, Gallagher and Chamberlain replaced Vassell and Howard.

A serious injury to Martyn Waghorn which has the South Shield boy sidelined for 5 months overshadowed a fantastic game at Vicarage Road which Leicester were unlucky to leave with 0 points from. The Foxes lost striker Waghorn on 13th minute when he pulled up chasing the ball, a scan has revealed Waghorn has a torn Calf muscle. Things got worse when Nigerian Yakubu also had to be withdrawn with and injury 10 minutes later but the Super Eagles striker only picked up a knock and is expected to be in a week.
On the pitch a wasteful foxes strike force was punished in the worst way with Watford taking 2 very good goals to give them a win. Darius Vassell had a golden opportunity to put O’Neill’s men 1-0 up but his effort went wide from 10 yards after he cleverly turned Lee Hodson. On the other hand a fine passing move by Watford ended in a goal after a fantastic finish from Stephen McGinn who finally got the better of Alex Smithies who had silenced the Hornets for the first 38 minutes with some outstanding saves.
The second half started in similar fashion with Leicester once again wasteful in front of goal with Steve Howard somehow blazing over from 7 yards and Tom Cairney having a curling 20 yard effort just grazing the top of the crossbar. With Leicester pressing on for an equaliser Watford went on the counter attack and with the goal at his mercy John Eustace played a ball across the 6 yard box to leave an open goal for Marvin Sordell to tap into to give Watford back-to-back wins and pile more misery onto Leicester who drop to 9th after a torrid September when the picked up 1 win out 5 only scoring 4 goals and failing to keep a clean sheet. O’Neill who came 2nd in Augusts’ manager of the month will be hoping for a better month of October.
