The South American Journey

Now as many of you will notice, this is my first post on FM base. So for starters, hi!

In all my time playing Football Manager (since 09) I've never really managed out of Europe, or even successfully out of England. Time for a change.

The plan for this save is to conquer CONMEBOL, which is basically the South American equivalent to UEFA. Along the way I will be learning the way of South American football, all the rules and everything else to go along with it.

I will be providing updates at the start and end of every season, and if I have something important, mid-season.

Where to start?

After a quick scan through the leagues I have decided to start in Argentina, I think the league system looks very interesting and something I'd like to have a go at.

Lanos

This is where I've chosen to start. Why? In the history of the Argentine Primera Division they have always been a regular, however, they have only won one title and that was in 07/08 so I've decided to attempt to restore former glory to the club from Buenos Aires.

The League System

-20 teams
-All year round with some sort of winter break

Copa Libertadores (South American Champions League)

5 teams qualify from Argentina

Next Update: Basic intro to the club and my custom club kits!

Looking forward for this, Lanus got some good players, Melano, Acosta, Ayala, Juniors Benitez and Marchesin, are very good players

End Of Pre-Season!

Transfers

I was pleasantly surprised when given my transfer budgets for the season, 20m transfer budget is way beyond anything I expected. However I haven't spent all of the budget because I feel it's important not to ruin our clubs finances.

The Ins

Colotto

I felt that we needed some experience at DC and Colotto has vast experience in this league and in Europe. With stats such as 18 heading and 15 tackling ,for 300k, this was a deal I couldn't miss out on.

Rodriguez

Out of all the signings, this is the one I'm least happy with. A solid all round winger who will not only provide cover but will also have the quality to have some significant playing time in the first team. However, in hindsight I wish that I had signed a younger, less developed winger because I feel that Rodriguez is past his peak and I can't see him playing for much more than 2 seasons.

Kranevitter

Now from the worst to the best signing of the window. Kranevitter is a young, yet quality addition to the side. Coming from River Plate he was a player I didnt think a club of our reputation would be able to sign. However, for 5m (lots of clauses) and all round his physicals, mentals and technicals are superb for a 21 year old. Quality.

Villalba

Villalba is a bit of a gamble, a young winger with bags of pace and potential. I felt we lacked pace out wide so I think that he will add another dimension to our attack and at the age of 20 he has plenty of time to work on his technicals, possibly a future star!

The Outs

Err...yeah, not much to mention here. Tryed to get rid of a few players but unable to get a price worth selling at.

Tactics and Results in the next update!

Tactics and Pre-Season Results

Tactics

This will be our main tactic for the season.

Philosophy

With this tactic I am looking to try and implement a style of play where we are exciting to watch and score lots of goals and at the same time try to not concede by keeping the ball. Also, I will try to ask my team to press high

Defence

the idea is that the one Centre Back sits in and covers while the other one presses. With our full backs set to 'Wing Backs - Attack' they hopefully will push on to support the wingers, I think that most wing-backs in this region will suit this style.

Midfield + Wingers

The deepest midfielder, on the left, will be playing the 'Regista' role. Hopefully he can be playing almost the 'Makelele' Role do I dare to say. His main job will be to break up and recycle play just in-front of the back 4. Once he has won back possession he will 'Pass It Shorter' to our 'Roaming Playmaker' who will be wandering around the midfield always looking for the ball. Then he will either play into the 'False 9s' feet or play it out wide. IF he plays it out wide, our wingers who are on 'Winger - Support' will either 'Look For Overlap' for our wingbacks who are pushing on. Or drive the line and 'Cross From Byline'.

Forwards

Fairly basic, the 'Advanced Forward' will look to lead the line and try to get in behind and the 'False 9' will look to drop off into space and try to either shoot or play a killer pass.

A very promising pre-season, I was shocked to see us beat Lazio and Fiorentina but hopefully Melano and Silva can continue their good goalscoring going into the new season!

Player of The Month

Managers Diary

Well, not the most eventful first month into the season but a very good one on the pitch, only a few concerns so far. First of all, our second half performances have been a disgrace. I just worry with this being my first job, are the players respecting me fully? Do they feel that they can get away with slacking off in the second half? When I've gone aggressive towards them all it has done is caused them to go to the press, hmm...

Despite the negatives, what a player we have in Santiago Silva. His experience has shone through every game so far. Clinical. Our young starlet Kranevitter is almost back from his Hip Injury and I'm really excited to see what he can do!

A tough tie in the next round of the Copa Argentina against Boca but hopefully we can get a result.

I'm not sure what to make of Argentina so far, it's been a huge change and the way in which Clubs are run is massively different. The way in which the league goes is still slightly confusing but it seems we will basically have 2 leagues in one season where everyone plays everyone once and then the new league begins and the process repeats. Anyway, see you in September

Got Kranevitter on my Roma save, quality player goes on to become a really good DM

yeah he looks like a quality young talent, shame he had that hip injury which put him out for 2 months for me but he's already started developing since he's come back.

WOW! Those kits are fantastic mate! Can you create kits and upload them in a save that already started? And how to you make them?

they look like quality players but I think I'm going to look for younger players for my team atm, also Conca is on 40k per week which is way beyond what any of my other players are on. thanks for the suggestions though
