Player of the Month
Managers Diary
Wow. What a month. On the pitch our performances have been superb, a personal highlight has to be the 1-0 win over Boca. A game which we scored early on and despite my concerns from last month about the players not playing well in the second half, we fought and battled against a Boca side ,who are predicted to finish 2nd, and we gave it our all for the 90 mins. What a performance.
Silvio Romero was handed player of the month, he was only handed a starting place because Melano seemed a little tired and Romero had been working hard in training and he's arguably in his prime so I decided to give him a chance and he certainly took it. And when a player scores the only 2 goals of the game it's hard to drop him.
However, just after the players had left after the win against Arsenal de Sarandi I had an e-mail from Jane, the secretary, "The board would like to see you, urgently". My immediate thoughts were that they wanted to congratulate me on our recent good run of form. But no. As I stepped into the office I could tell this was far from a congratulation. All eyes on me, I sat down.
Maron (Club President) - The board have called a meeting to discuss an issue we feel must be solved immediately.
My heart sunk, why now? what had I done?
I barely got a word out before Maron spoke again...
"Were in a crisis, a crisis which we feel only you can solve"
I ran the words through my brain a few times but I couldn't quite understand what he was getting at.
"Lanus are in a serious financial crisis,we're predicted to be £17.45m in debt by the end of the season. The only option is for you to sell some players"
No... surely he must be insane, he handed me a budget which I didn't even spend half of. I'm currently performing above expectations in the league and he's asking ME to solve the problem. No.
"Maron, as the manager of Lanus I understand it is my responsibility to put the clubs best interests at heart but selling players isn't the solution. Winning games, winning trophies and titles is ALWAYS the solution. A quick fix will not help this club in the long run. We must attract more fans to the games THAT is how we make more money. I'm sorry but YOU handed me a budget which I stuck to, now it is YOUR job to allow me to do MY job and that is to win football matches. Thank you."
And that was that, Maron nodded his head and I left the boardroom. Another month gone, I'm starting to get the hang of this.
