A-League Kick-off (October 2012)

Before the season started Central Coast ran into takeover problems. Local Businessman Gary Parker paid $2.8m to buy the managing stake of the Central Coast Mariners, thus succeeding former chairman Peter Turnbull to become the new Chairman of the Mariners. So far this has not affected the football operations of the club yet. Vasily the new chairman comes to the club with deep pockets.

After playing 6 friendlies with teams from the Victorian and NSW Premier Leagues, Vasily has been able to view the team’s skill sets and what tactics would be best to play. Vasily has chosen to stay with last season’s aging captain, and has promoted Oliver Bozanic to the leadership team. With Patrick Zwaanswijk getting older, the Mariners needs a vice-captain that can fill the gap in case Patrick gets injured or when he chooses to retire.

Vice-Captain: 8. Oliver Bozanic (M/AM LC)

Vasily is an attacking style footballer, doesn’t like slow football, and he is not going to be disappointed with the Mariners as there are a lot of attacking style footballers in the squad. He has decided to go with the 4 – 2 – 2 – 2 (thankyou Raikan007, this formation is awesome). The key players for this formation include strikers Adam Kwasnik and Daniel McBreen, Winger Mike McGlinchey and and Midfielder Nick Montgomery. Vasily also found usefulness in former back-up keeper Matthew Ryan, promoting him to first GK, whilst placing youth Bernie Ibini on the bench, a step up from the youth team.

The starting XI for the Mariners has taken a bit of a dive after John Hutchinson got injured playing for Malta in the UEFA World Cup Qualifiers. At this stage we will not be purchasing any players, but I will reanalyse the team before the transfer window closes to see whether or not the Mariners need any new players, for now though Vasily believes that the players coming up through the youth team is enough to patch any gaps.

And the following players didn’t make it to the first team, however need to be kept an eye on as they have performed quite well in reserves and friendlies;
Bernie Ibini (ST)

Changes in backroom staff
Vasily inherited the Mariners when the backroom staff the team had was one coach, fitness coach, and an Assistant Manager. The Director of Football Lawrie McKinna was doing all team scouting. Therefore Vasily advertised the following positions;
3 x Coach
Youth Manager
Physio
Chief Scout

Vasily was able to obtain the following staff;
Brian McBride (former Fulham star) (USA) - Youth Team Manager
Cyrille Ndongo – Keller (Cameroon) - Attacking Coach
Chris Heck (USA) – Ball Control Coach
Dennis te Klose (Netherlands) – Defending Coach
Diego Gutierrez (USA) – Chief Scout
Daniel Jones (Aus) - Physio

Win A-League Final series

Central Coast fans have been reeling, coming close to winning the A-League Final Series last season, only to lose in a penalty shootout. This has happened too many times to the Mariners, earning them the nick-name in poor taste, “The Chokers”. Central Coast also have an aging team, it is the last chance for many of the players to have their one shot at glory, to take out the A-League and win the Final Series. Many players also seek Asian Champions League glory, Vasily has already had conversations with players begging them to stay on one more season, to give him a chance to send the Mariners to the Asian Champions League. Will Vasily be able to keep his promises to the fans? Will he be able to keep his promise to the players who seek higher glory?

The A-League kicks off and the odds are saying that the Brisbane Roar and the Central Coast Mariners are equal favourites for the A-League Title this year. However Melbourne Heart have brought on some new players and the A-League has a new dynamic in play, the Western Sydney Wanderers, which were given the concession of being able to have an extra foreign player in the team then the rest of the league.

A-League 06/10/2012
Western Sydney Wanderers 0 - 3 Central Coast Mariners
Parramatta Stadium (WSW); Att: 11,807
Daniel McBreen (31, 66)
Bernie Ibini (73)
Matthew Ryan CS

Man of Match: Daniel McBreen

It was raining in Parramatta on this spring day, however that did not phase the mariners as they dominated the match from kick off, having possession of the ball 65% of the match, placing 7 shots on target out of 12. The Wanderers had no shots on target what so ever. Another highlight out of the match was youngster Bernie Ibini scoring a goal for the Mariners. Vasily can see Ibini going places in the team and around the world.

A-League 14/10/2012
Central Coast Mariners 5 - 0 Perth Glory
Blue Tongue Stadium (CSM); Att: 13,310
Daniel McBreen (7, 11, 32, 66)
Mike McGlinchey (18)
Matthew Ryan CS

Man of Match: Daniel McBreen

This match saw Mariners star Striker Daniel McBreen go up against his former team Perth Glory in the safe confines of Blue Tongue Stadium. This match was billed to be a close match, but the bookies couldn’t be further from the truth. The game was like as if Daniel McBreen had to exact revenge on his former team scoring 4 goals (this is the most any player has scored for me in a FM game). This game was totally the McGlinchey and McBreen show as they dominated the field. This match was a slaughter and it was clear who the winners were by half time (4 – 0).

NEW TEAM RECORD SET
Most goals in a game: Daniel McBreen 4 vs. Perth Glory 6/10/2012
The previous record was 2, also set by Daniel McBreen.

A-League 20/10/2012
F3 Rivalry Match, Battle of the North Coast
Newcastle Utd Jets 1 - 4 Central Coast Mariners
Hunter Stadium, Newcastle NSW; Att: 11,301
Adam Kwasnik (14, 19)
Oliver Bozanic (38)
Mile Sterjovski (90)
Adam Kwasnik (injured 38th minute)

Man of Match: Adam Kwasnik

Adam Kwasnik played like lightning in today’s game, scoring 2 goals within 5 minutes of each other early in the game. Unfortunately he also sustained an injury on the 38th minute and will be out for at least 4 weeks. Besides Kwasnik’s injury Central Coast were able to maintain the lead in this fiercely fought rivalry match between the F3 rivals. Bozanic scoring a goal after Kwasnik limped off the field having the half time score at 3 – 0. Emile Hesky made a number of attempts for goal for the Jets, however he finally scored a late goal on the 88th minute, but by that stage the Mariners had the game won.

p.s. For those who don’t understand the rivalry, in any code of sport there is a strong rivalry between Newcastle and Central Coast NSW, as Newcastle and Gosford (Central Coast) are the two cities situated north outside of Sydney. They don’t want to be associated with each other or Sydney. Because Football is the only code that has both teams face each other, this is often one of the biggest rivalry matches in the A-League.

p.s.s. Has anyone ever had a player injured and receive player of the match before? Adam got injured on the 38th minute, I did not expect him to receive POM.

A-League 28/10/2012
Melbourne Heart 3 - 3 Central Coast Mariners
AAMI Stadium, Melbourne VIC; Att: 8,289
Daniel McBreen (39, 54)
Simon Colosimo (OG 49)

Man of Match: Daniel McBreen

Melbourne Heart outplayed the Mariners in every way in the first half, if it weren’t for the skilful shots from Daniel McBreen I don’t know how Central Coast could’ve have kept up. This was clearly Heart’s game to have won, but their mistake on the 49th cost them the game. Unfortunately for the Mariners though, the squad had faced 5 yellow cards being dished out, 3 of them in injury time, absolutely ridiculous. The following individuals earned them; Mike McGlinchey, Patrick Zwaanswijk (c ), Oliver Bozanic (vc), Nick Montgomery, Joshua Rose.

End of the Month
With the first month gone, I am surprised by the high scoring games Central Coast partook in. Vasily is quite pleased with his squad, being one of the three teams undefeated at the end of the month (others being Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory). The team did quite superbly and had exceeded Vasily’s expectations. At the end of the month Vasily tried to loan some players out however some of the youngsters were not taken up. The transfer window closed on the 31/ October and Vasily decided not to partake in the transfer market as he felt there was no need to buy any players at the moment.

Central Coast has the following injuries to report;
Adam Kwasnik, 3-4 weeks Fractured Wrist
John Hutchinson, at least 3 months Torn Ankle Ligaments

Bernie Ibini has been moved to the starting lineup to replace Adam Kwasnik. He is doing well at the moment assisting Daniel McBreen.

Hyundai A-League Ladder
It is the first month, nothing much to report. 3 teams hold the distinction of being undeafeated and they are Cnetral Coast Mariners, Adelaide Utd and Melbourne Victory.

First game up in October is against the team on top of the ladder and current Championship favourites, Blackpool. Although I wouldn’t usually fear them Craig Bellamy one of my key players is injured for the next 6 weeks.

nPower Football League Championship 02/10/2012
Cardiff 3 - 1 Blackpool
Cardiff City Stadium; Att: 22,689
Mark Hudson (37)
Nicky Maynard (74)
Don Cowie (pen 78)

Man of Match: Tiago Gomes (Blackpool)

Well, the first half was everything I expected, Cardiff and Blackpool were toe to toe, Blackpool scoring the first goal on the 7th minute. Matthias was worried that the match was thrown away, however skipper Mark Hudson was able to save Cardiff’s hopes by scoring a goal before half time. Second half was a different story, Blackpool was even with Cardiff right up until the 70th minute, after that the match went Cardiff’s way, Nicky Maynard scoring a goal on the 74th minute. Then a spot kick was awarded to Don Cowie under controversial circumstances, which led to the 3rd goal for Cardiff. This win pretty much places Cardiff on top of the ladder, but I wouldn’t discount Blackpool yet, they were a tough team, just ran out of legs 3/4s way through the match.

nPower Football League Championship 06/10/2012
Hull 1 - 1 Cardiff
KC Stadium, Hull; Att: 20,474
Joe Mason (88)

Man of Match: Robert Koren c (Hull)

Coming into this match, Cardiff were dreading the fixture, considering we barely got off beating our no.1 rival Blackpool, only a few days later we are up against 3rd ranked team Hull. Half time was nerve racking for the squad as we were down 1 – 0. Matthias gave a motivating speech telling the lads that the match is not over yet and they are only a goal in front. Despite the number of fouls Hull did (3 yellow cards in the second half), that did not frighten young Joe Mason who scored the equalising goal in the dying minutes of the game.

The first match is against Belgium on the road. Belgium are odds favourites to come first in Group A and are currently undefeated. The fixtures this month don’t play well with Wales as both matches are on the road and we are missing star wings Bale and Bellamy. Without Bellamy Schmidt is someone nervous but can trust his boys to upset the bookies!!!

Well the good news is that defender Sam Ricketts gained his 50th cap whilst Midfielder Nicky Adams earned his first cap. Well, the bookies had it right, Belgium smashed Wales. Unfortunately Belgium dominated Wales on the ball and also made the most shots, Wales were lucky not to let in any more goals. Matthias found the Midfield to be lacking in the ability to intercept and to pass the ball up the field. Defence tried as hard as they could, however they were over ran to the point where there were 1 defender for every 1-2 opponents. Hopefully the midfield can look on this match with shame and pick up as Bellamy will not be back for 2 months.

After losing to Belgium Matthias had to change the mood in the room pretty quick before the morale of the team would sink further creating the “sinking ship” effect. The odds for the match were not good, FYROM were 6-4 favourites. Before the match he gave the team an encouragement talk telling them he believes in them and knows they can do this. The match was toe to toe in the first half and it was hard to tell which way the match would go. However once the second half began the Midfield and Wingers seemed to have hit the field with more enthusiasm, controlling the ball and making numerous shots. Luckily enough the player Matthias thought of sitting out due to poor performance in the encounter with Belgium was the player who scored Wales only goal, even finier is that it was his very first international goal, which is quite lucky that Matthias thought twice before replacing players. Football was the real winner in this encounter.

Ladder after 4 matches

Belgium remains undefeated with 4 wins. They gave Wales a scare, but Wales was able to bounce back after narrowly defeating FYROM. With that said Croatia are only 2 points behind Wales, and they will be the first team Wales goes up against in the next set of UEFA World Cup Qualifiers. Wasn’t our best month, however we are still in the running never the less.

International Representative Update
Well after international games across the world, Cardiff had 5 players earn a cap. They include the following;
Iceland: Aron Gunnarsson
Scotland: David Marshall and Don Cowie
Wales: Rob Earnshaw and Ben Turner

Would have hated to be David Marshall and Don Cowie, both outings Scotland had, they were on the receiving end of a drubbing. Highlight out of the players on Int duty was Ben Turner, did quite well as starting defender.

nPower Football League Championship 20/10/2012

Going into this match Midfielder Craig Noone had a chat to the media about being annoyed that he was not in the starting line-up and only played the role of bench warmer whilst Craig Bellamy was injured. He expected to take his place in the starting line up but instead out of form Scotsman Craig Conway took his place. Matthias had a word with him and decided to switch the two as he was right about Conway being out of form. He would not regret it.

Leicester City were placed 19th on the ladder going into this match, so Matthias expected some easy picking going into this match after beating Blackpool and drawing with Hull, however he did not expect to win by the margin that Cardiff did. Unfortunately the outcome to this match led to Leicester City sacking Manager Nigel Pearson. Besides Peter Whittingham playing his A-game with Nicky Maynard, call up Craig Noone got a rating of 8.8, pretty good for his first Cardiff appearance. After the match Matthias talks to Craig and tells him, “I like the cut of your jib mate, if you keep playing like this you are guaranteed to play more first class football”.

This was a push over, got to rest some of the main squad and allowed rotation players to make up the starting XI for this match. The Midfield and Defence did superb. Crystal Palace did make their fair share of attempts for goal, But Joe Lewis deflected and blocked each attempt. Another great game for Craig Noone. In a sense Craig Bellamy’s injury has become his benefit as I have been able to see how skilled he truly is.

Capitol One Cup Third Round 30/10/2012

Cardiff dominated this match from kick off. Cardiff had possession of the ball, the midfielders were absolutely superb, closing down the opposition and passing the ball down the field and making options. The best of them no doubt was Craig Noone. I know I keep on harping on about him but this guy had the ball for at least a quarter of the match.

End of the Month
Matthias is starting to see a pattern emerge with Cardiff. There are times that the squad are down on the scoreline at half time or even. However in the second half Cardiff have a habit of making great come backs, especially when under pressure from the likes of Hull and Blackpool. Although this is a good skill to have, Matthias would much prefer to lead the match, rather then play catch up, never the less, he is enjoying watching Cardiff play such tenacious and endurance style football.

On other news Nicky Maynard’s goal streak has attracted the attention of English Football pundits, which are asking England to give him an international Cap.

View attachment 356571

Cardiff are still undefeated, so are Hull whom are equal with Cardiff on points. Derby were also undefeated right up until the last game of the month when they finally lost, however they had a strange record of having too many draws, having 4 wins and 7 draws.

Have the following injuries to report;
Craig Conway, 2-3 months Dislocated Shoulder

Have the following players returning from injury;
Craig Bellamy
Kim Bo-Kyung

with that said Matthias is not moving Craig Noone back to reserves as he is an asset to the first team.

nPower Football League Championship Ladder
Since the loss to Cardiff, Blackpool have dropped to 3rd place and Cardiff take back 1st place. Hull also snuck up the ladder to 2nd place. Both Hull and Cardiff are undefeated and have the same Championship points, Cardiff are only on top by goal difference. Millwall are the big winners this month, jumping from 15th to 8th.

Who are the Socceroos?
From Wikipedia;
The Australian national association football team represents Australia in international association football. The team is controlled by the governing body for association football in Australia Football Federation Australia (FFA), which is currently a member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and also an invitee member of the regional ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) since leaving the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) in 2006. The teams official nickname is the Socceroos.
Australia is a four-time OFC champion and AFC Men's Team of the Year for 2006. The team has represented Australia at three FIFA World Cup tournaments: in 1974, 2006 and 2010.

Vasily Petrovich was found suitable for the role of managing the Australia U-19 team to the AFC U19 Championship. Vasily thought to try his managerial skills on the international stage, but in an U-19 setting before putting his name forward for International Vacancies after the A- League season. Personally he is doing this as a favour for his friend the Manager of the Socceroos Holger Osiek, as he is too focussed on getting Australia qualified for the World Cup and is unable to keep an eye on the U-19s squad. This squad is made up of Australia’s footballing future, featuring players who currently playing in the English Premier League, Championship, Scottish Premier League and Bundesliga. The trophies and glory are not great, however the reward is working with Australia’s Footballing future.

The Leadership of the team will consist of the following;
Captain: Brandon O’Neill (Pert Glory) (M LC)
Vice-Captain: Nicholas Ansell (Melbourne Victory) (D C)

View attachment 358184View attachment 358185

He has played the squad through 5 friendlies and has decided to keep the current team’s formation of a 4 – 5 – 1, and has selected the following players to take part in the U19 AFC Championship.

Well for now, Vasily is doing this to get International experience, I thought it would be realistic if he starts at the bottom of an International team, next team he will work for will be a Senior International team though. I will see where this post takes me. If Australia qualifies for the U19 World Cup I will see that out then resign.

The match was even stevens right up until the second half when Qatar scored the first goal. At that stage Australia started to run out of legs, Vasily made some subs in the midfield hoping for a change, when hope ran out Makarounas scored in the dying minutes of the game to saviour some points. It was disappointing considering Qatar were considered underdogs.

This match was a nail biter. Oman dominated Australia in the first half, leaving Australia 2-1 at half time, which we only got that goal because of a penalty awarded to the young socceroos. When the second half began though, Australia started playing their A-Game, keeping possession of the ball longer, playing a short passing game, passing it to where it was open and making the shots count. We levelled the scores at the 52nd minute mark, however Vasily was not happy keeping it a draw and ask the team to push forward as he noticed a weakness in the centre defence, as there were holes forming. Amateur footballer Tommy Cirjak from the Rockdale City (NSW Premier League) finally broke through and scored a goal.

Cut like a Ninja, Slice like a Razor Blade, Other DJs say "****!", If my Rhyme was a Drug I would sell it by the gram.....
This was a highly anticipated match, the hosts Japan was bound to draw the largest crowd, and they certainly did with over 2000 viewers. Unfortunately for the home team, they watched their team get outmatched by the young Socceroo squad. If anytime was the time for the Joeys (I have named the U-19 squad the Joeys) to fire up, now was that time as the next loss sees us on the next plane back to Sydney. Australia dominated Japan in terms of possession, having the ball 58% of the time, whilst making 21 shots, 7 of them on target. Next game we are up against our Group stage rival Bahrain, this time a draw won’t cut it. But the good news is that because Australia qualified for the Semi-Final, they have automatic qualification to the U20 World Cup.

WOW, this match was far from being a demolition, in fact it was close to being a demolition of Australia, Half time was 2 – 0. In the first half Bahrain ran circles around Australia however they only managed to score 2 goals on the 45th minute and injury time. Australia caught up from behind with Cristaldo scoring a goal on the 55th minute, giving hope to Vasily then finally skipper Brandon O’Neill scoring a goal 5 minutes out from half time outside the box. Bahrain was tired, so was Australia, but near the end of the match Australia had more possession of the ball and made more attempts at goal. Like last time Bahrain and Australia finished the match as a draw, however that will not fly in the AFC Championship, so the match went to extra time, which benefitted Australia as the Joeys were not as tired as Bahrain. When extra time started Jackson Irvine headed the ball off a corner kick, all Australia needed to do was retain possession of the ball and play out the extra time, which we did and won the Semi Final. In the other Semi Final UAE defeated China 1 - 0

Well what a match, Once again Australia win a match in extra time and once again Australia wins the race of endurance. This was a tight affair and I must say the UAE really pushed Australia as we were level pegging each other right up until full time. The first goal by the UAE was because of a tackle in the box called a foul. UAE were in front from the 3rd minute. Australia was on the back foot and made many attempts at goal. Australia finally pushed through in the dying minutes of the game when Jesse Makarounas pushed pass 2 fullbacks went one on one with the Goalkeeper before volleying the ball to goal. The match was tied 1 – 1 at full time. The match was pushed into extra time, which worked to Australia’s advantage as the UAE football team looked tired and had already made use of their subs early in the second half, whilst Australia looked composed and had 3 fresh bodies on the pitch, subbed in around the 75th and 80 minute marks. It was only a matter of time before playmaker Christopher Cristaldo took advantage of the tired defence, found a gap ran through it and shot for goal. It took 120 minutes to get the AFC U-19 Championship but it was sweet once won.

AFC U19 Championship Campaign Review
I must admit managing the U-19s International team is not the most illustrious job Vasily could’ve selected, however realistically it is his foot in the door for developing International Management skills. Originally Vasily was considering resigning from the post once he had completed the task Holger game him, but now he has given Australia automatic qualification into the U20 World Cup, he is considering keeping the job to see his personal development task through, not only for himself but the Joeys themselves whom seem to be lacking defensive skills. They are in much need of personal Development between now and August 2013 and Vasily intends to oversee it, so these young members of the Joeys become the Socceroos of the future. One positive he can take out of this squad is that they are really fit and they don’t tire easily. Endurance is not a problem as they have proven in the extra time scenarios carried out in the finals.

As stated earlier this isn’t illustrious, however the post is a fun learning platform.

Next Report: Matthias Schmidt and Cardiff

Sorry peoples, I know it is taking reeally long and I have not been able to update the story as often as I have wanted to, it has just been a really busy week at work, to the point where I am tired when I get home, watch tv and go to bed.

On a good note, the one night I did have spare time I got to watch the Socceroos qualify for the World Cup defeating Iraq 1-0, which makes it the 3rd World Cup in a row we have qualified for.

I have simmed most of November, just haven't wrote up my report yet, I will post that tonight though (it is currently 10am in Australia) as it is Friday and I would have plenty of time to do things, in fact I plan on simming into the next year by the end of tonight.

p.s. Did anyone spot the little quote in the last story as a headline for one of my matches. As much as I would like to think it is my original work it isn't, kudo goes to anyone out there that can guess where the quote is from.

Lets introduce you to Matthias Schmidt (yes it is Neil Oliver, my favourite documenter)
View attachment 353882Name: Matthias Schmidt
Dob: 24/03/1976
Place of birth: Berlin, East Germany
Playing Career:
  • FC Berlin 1990 – 1993 (Youth)
  • Borussia Dortmund 1994 – 1999
  • Newcastle United 2000 – 2001
  • Manchester United 2001 – 2003
  • Borussia Dortmund 2004 -2008
Management Career
  • Borussia Dortmund
    • Coach 2008 – 2010
    • Assistant Manager 2011 – 2012
  • Cardiff FC Manager 2012 - ????

Matthias had a hard life growing up in East Germany, however football was one of his true passions and he stuck to it ever since. He was first picked up as a youth for FC Berlin whilst the wall still divided his beloved city, but once that wall came down western teams started to scout him. He was picked up by Borussia Dortmund at the age of 18. From there the world got to have a glimpse at what this attacking midfielder could do on the field. His career in Borussia Dortmund gave him a chance to share in the golden age of Borussia Dortmund. Before the team went public Schmidt was traded to the Newcastle United where he began his Premier League career. Didn’t have much success in Newcastle was eventually bought by Manchester United and had quite a working relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson. Matthias has been quoted many times in the media as saying that Ferguson is the epitome of how a football manager should be and he only wishes to emulate him. Matthias came back to Dortmund to finish of his career before being trained as a member of the backroom staff. Before long his name was being touted as a future manager of Borussia Dortmund however given the success of his manager Jurgen Klopp the only chance for Matthias was to make a name for himself, so he left home once again to travel to England, but this time to manage a team that has Premier League potential, just needs someone to make sure that the team gets there. Matthias believes he is the one to do that and he believes he can make Cardiff a team as powerful as the team his mentor coaches, Manchester United. The future is his oyster, will Cardiff be a powerhouse, or is this experiment brought on by Chairman Datuk Chan Tien Ghee going to blow up in his face, only time will tell.

So who are Cardiff FC?
View attachment 353899From wikipedia Cardiff currently compete in the nPower Championship, and are currently predicted to win in the top half of the table. Matthias intends on getting Cardiff promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 51 years.

November 2012 Cardiff

View attachment 359354

November should be easy, the only opposition that maybe a doosie is Derby, considering they have a habit of drawing. Craig Bellamy is returning to the starting line-up and I have the issue of finding a role Craig Noone can play in the squad. Kim Bo-Kyung will be relegated to the rotation squad, with that said he will still receive a game at least 2-3 times in a month. On a side note Cardiff have drawn Everton in the Capital One Cup.

nPower Football League Championship 03/11/2012

Cardiff 2 - 0 Derby
Cardiff City Stadium; Att: 22,910
Joe Mason (9)
Rob Earnshaw (32)
Joe Lewis CS

Man of Match: Richard Keogh (Derby)

What a result, Rob Earnshaw breaks his goal drought and Joe Lewis is staying strong, now 510 minutes since he has last conceded a goal. One of the interesting talking points of the match happened to be a goal that Derby almost scored, however the linesmen ruled it offside. Unfortunately this match saw Joe Mason injure his elbow, the Chief Physio recommends benching him for 2 – 3 weeks. This is the second time Joe Mason has been injured now.

Oakwell; Att: 8,231
Heidar Helguson (29, 31)
Nicky Maynard (58)

Man of Match: Heidar Helguson

Played a rotation squad this match. Nicky Maynard scored that goal the moment he came off the bench, I was surprised that the rotation squad did so well, especially the Heidar Helguson and the Defenders. One of the few First team player on the field was GK Joe Lewis, who had not conceded a goal in 600 minutes of match play.

Man of Match: Craig Noone

Burnley although were 4th, have a few injuries and those that were first team players looked to be tired. This was a roll over. Half time the score was 3 – 0 and Matthias told the team to change tactic from attack to containment. Craig Noone was wonderful setting up 2 assists, quite a few passes and shots made on goal. This guy is great and I am sure to keep him in the team. Joe Lewis has not condeded a goal for 690 minutes of play.

Man of Match: Nicky Maynard

This is the first match for Nicky Maynard this month since taking time off for the flu and representing England against Turkey. He made his mark the moment he stepped onto the field scoring 2 goals within 5 minutes of each other. As per usual the second half we ran a containment strategy and we allowed the players not to get too tired, whilst making sure we don’t allow a goal. Joe Lewis has now not conceded a goal in 780 minutes of match play

The Valley, Charlton; Att: 19,262

Nicky Maynard (73)
Peter Whittingham (84)
Joe Lewis CS (8 in a row)

Man of Match: Ben Turner

Goal Keeper Joe Lewis has now played 870 minutes of match time without conceding a goal. He is currently equalled the Cardiff record of 8 games without conceding a goal. If he gains one more clean sheet he will set the record for the most cleansheets in a row and the most consecutive minutes since conceding a goal. Besides that the game was rather a slow game prior to the end of the first half with Cardiff only making 3 shots on goal with 2 of them on target. By the second half though Cardiff made another 6 shots with 4 of them on target. Although Cardiff were tasked with playing an attacking game it was rather defensive until the 65th minute, when I started commanding the team to try different options.

Man of Match: Filip Kiss

What a game. Peterborough were in 17th spot when the two clubs met for this clash, but what was so important about this much was the fact that former no.1 GK for Peterborough Joe Lewis who was dumped from the side in the 2011 – 2012 (sent to reserves) went up against the team he served for 5 years, 4 of them as the first keeper. He was able to prove to his former club that he is still worth having as a first GK, especially given the fact that he has had 9 Clean sheets in a row, being 970 minutes since Joe Lewis conceded a goal. Cardiff played very aggressive in the first half, but Peterborough reciprocated. Aggressive attacking style of play led Cardiff getting 2 goals. However Peterborough committed 8 fouls, 5 of them were yellow card offences which led to Peter Whittingham scoring off a spot and the of course the unfortunate injury of Filip Kiss on the 79th minute. Great win for Cardiff and Joe Lewis, however unfortunate that Filip Kiss will be out for 6 weeks with a broken arm.

End of the Month
November ends with Cardiff and Hull neck and neck being the only teams undefeated thus far. Although the month did not start so well with a nil all tie against Watford, Cardiff were able to win the rest of the matches in November. Matthias rotated the squad 3 times during the month to give experience to the players that are not getting much first team time. Joe Mason also came back from injury mid way through the month, however after 2 games Joe Mason is yet again injured (ARGGHHH). With that said Matthias is pleased with the rotation players as Heidar Helguson and Rob Earnshaw have filled in the gap sufficiently.

Injury list
Joe Mason, Thigh Strain 3 weeks
Filip Kiss, Broken Arm 3 - 4 weeks
Simon Lappin, Torn Hamstring 3 months
Craig Conway, Dislocated Shoulder 6 weeks

Board Confidence Update
The Board are very pleased with Matthias’s overall leadership of Cardiff. It has been underlined by the fans delight at Cardiff’s 5 – 0 Championship victory over Burnley. The club is currently in a financially secure position overall and made a profit of $574,000.

It is pretty obvious who I was going to pick this month, I kinda find it harsh that he wasn’t even considered for player of the month, but in my opinion he was the best player in November and if anything his perfect record in front of goals is why Cardiff is undefeated.

November saw many many sackings across Europe due to poor performance. The following changes occurred in the month of November. With that said there were some strange moves done, such as Rudi Garcia resigning from the plum job of managing second place Lille to take up the reins at PSG, who are not performing very well finding themselves between 12 and 10 in the last few weeks. Out of all the dismissals to take place I believe what happened at CSKA to be unfair given that they were in 4th place.

November 2012 Central Coast

View attachment 359450View attachment 359451

Central Coast will not have Adam Kwasnik to play this month as he is on the injured player list. Bernie Ibini should be sufficient to take his place, as he needs the first team experience. Frank Farina is already playing mind-games with Vasily. Vasily took this opportunity to stoke the fires of rivalry stating that Sydney don’t have what it takes to win the A-League and Frank Farina is not the manager to bring success to any football team.

Rivalry Match
Central Coast Mariners 1 - 1 Sydney FC
Blue Tongue Stadium, Gosford NSW; Att: 14,664
Daniel McBreen (50)

Man of Match: Patrick Zwaanswijk

Quite the close encounter for the Mariners, this was a pretty good game, with the Mariners and FC matching each other kick for kick, the much anticipated rivalry match couldn’t have finished any better.

A-League 11/11/2012
Wellington Phoenix 2 - 1 Central Coast Mariners
Westpace Stadium, Wellington NZ; Att: 8,068
Bernie Ibini (72)

Man of Match: Atsushi Katagiri (Wellington)

With Kwasnik out for a few weeks and Matthew Ryan out with a cold (LIKE COME ON!!!), this match was not going to be the same. I can’t truly say I am pleased with Bernie Ibini’s performances, despite the fact he is the only one to score in this match, he has been a bit of a disappointment the last couple of games. I also sat out Mile Sterjovski for a break and allowed one of the rotated loaned player Nika Piliev take to the field. Vasily feels the Mariners could’ve done better but they can learn from those mistakes and not make them again when they go up against Wellington. After this loss the Mariners have lost their unbeaten streak and drop down to second place behind Melbourne, which is a good segue into the next match………

A-League 17/11/2012
Melbourne Victory 2 - 1 Central Coast Mariners
Etihad Stadium, Melbourne VIC; Att: 23,770
Bernie Ibini (83)

Man of Match: Diego Ferreira (Melbourne Victory)

Ouch, Mariners slouch down to third spot after 2 losses in a row. The team has been hit hard after Adam Kwansik has been injured. To make it worse Pedj Bojic fractured his arm at training earlier in the week. The match was close at half time only being down by 1 goal, however the team only begin to lift after it was 2 – 0 at the 74th minute. Bernie Ibini tried to bring the team back but the volley was too late. We’re at home next week, we better not lose in front of the crowd in Gosford otherwise the crowd would not forgive us.

A-League 28/10/2012
Central Coast Mariners 3 - 0 Brisbane Roar
Blue Tongue Stadium, Gosford NSW; Att: 14,595
Bernie Ibini (11, 15)
Mile Sterjovski (23)
Justin Pasfield CS

Man of Match: Bernie Ibini

This match was one of those moments where I Vasily prayed to the football gods for direction and help on the field. To make matters worse Brisbane Roar Manager Mike Mulvey announced during the course of the week that the Central Coast Mariners did not have a competitive chance at winning the A-League title this year. This only motivated Vasily and the Mariners more to beat the Roar at home. From the get go the Mariners played a swift attackingstyle of football controlling the tempo of the game in the first 20 minutes, scoring 3 goals within a 12 minute period. It was a dream come true for Vasily. The Mariners by the end of the game made 14 shots on goal, with 6 of them being on target.

End of the Month
This was not the best month for the Mariners, starting the month with a draw against Melbourne Heart, then losing away against Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory. The team has been in a bit of a shambles this month with Adam Kwasnik out, however by the last game against Brisbane in which they were shut out, the Mariners got to finish the month on a high. The Mariners have a lot to pick up as Melbourne Victory are currently on top of the ladder by 8 points. Good news is that Bernie Ibini is finally adjusting to first team life and Vasily reckons he should do fine in December.

Board Confidence Update
The Board are satisfied with how Vasily’s management of the team and it has been underlined by the fans delight at the 3 – 0 victory against the Brisbane Roar at home, however the board are disappointed with the 1 – 2 loss against the Wellington Phoenix. The club recorded a loss of $156,000.

Next Report: Matthias Schmidt and Cardiff

Great story, following this!
I hope you will enjoy. Although I have been posting an update everynight, that grinded to a halt last Thursday as I have been having limited time to play FM. However I intend on at least completing the next 2 months in the next few days.

Going great so far :D

Thankyou MojoDex
