Good news at the start of the month is that Adam Kwasnik returns to the squad, however he is not at full health, therefore I will start him on the bench until he reaches peak physical condition. John Hutchison also returns from injury. In the meantime Bernie Ibini will still play as starting forward. There are two rivalry matches to look forward to (Newcastle and Sydney) and the unfortunate game in New Zealand again. Hopefully this time the Mariners do not succumb to such a loss as last time they were in the island made famous for Frodo :p

A-League 01/12/2012
Central Coast Mariners 4 - 1 Adelaide Utd
Blue Tongue Stadium, Gosford NSW; Att: 14,456
Bernie Ibini (2, 7, 65)
Mile Sterjovski (87)
Nick Montgomery (Double Yellow Card/Red Card)
Mike McGlinchey (5th Yellow Card)

Man of Match: Bernie Ibini

View attachment 361605View attachment 361606

Well what start to the month. Bernie Ibini put the Mariners on the scoreboard within the first 10 minutes of the game with a secure lead into half time. On the 50th minute Vasily was forced to adapt the team tactics to accomdate a 10 man squad after Nick Montgomery receiving his second yellow card for the game. Bernie was kept as the main striker which paid off as he completed his hatrick kicking a long range goal to extend the lead to 3 nil. By the time Anderson kicked a goal for Adelaide it was all but over. Unfortunately the team also loses Mike McGlinchey to an automatic one match ban due to picking up his 5th yellow card in this fixture.

A-League 09/12/2012

Newcastle Utd Jets 1 - 1 Central Coast
Hunter Stadium, Newcastle NSW; Att: 10,335
Bernie Ibini (32)

Man of Match: Adriano Pellegrino

View attachment 361607

Was not the best match for Central Coast considering the Mariners had possession of the ball for 57% of the match. The Mariners made 18 shots, but only Bernie Ibini managed to score on the 32nd.

A-League 14/12/2012
Central Coast Mariners 4 - 1 Melbourne Heart
Blue Tongue Stadium, Gosford NSW; Att: 14,352
Nick Montgomery (58)
Bernie Ibini (67)
Adam Kwasnik (69 and 90+2)

Man of Match: Adam Kwasnik

View attachment 361608View attachment 361609

This was a tough match to begin with for the Mariners. Mariners did not kick many shots before half time and the Heart scored a goal in the first 5 minutes. Vasily gave an inspirational talk to the troops at half time which has been credited post match by Adam Kwasnik and Mike McGlinchey as the reason why the players were able to turn the tables on the Heart and win 4-1. By the end of the match the Mariners had possession of the ball 60% of the match made 18 shots which 11 were on target.

A-League 21/12/2012
Wellington Phoenix 1 - 1 Central Coast
Westpac Stadium, Wellington NZ; Att: 7,241
Patrick Zwaanswijk (75)

Man of Match: Ben Sigmund (Wellington)

View attachment 361610View attachment 361611View attachment 361612

This was a hard match to begin with for Vasily, as the Mariners performed poorly last time they visited NZ. This time though both teams were even, although the Mariners had possession of the ball 60% of the time Wellington were able to place more shots on target. However as pretty as the stats sounded the match was heavily contested and the only goals to be scored were on the 73rd (Phoenix) and on the 75th (Mariners). Other that it was a very very tight and defensive match, which almost had Trent Sainbury sent off on the 47th minute after a slide tackle in the box, however lucky for the Mariners the referee did not see the incident take place.

A-League 27/12/2012
Rivalry Match
Sydney FC 1 - 2 Central Coast

Bernie Ibini (17, 78)

Man of Match: Bernie Ibini

View attachment 361613View attachment 361614View attachment 361615

Sydney attacked from the get go, with Terry McFlynn scoring a goal on the 11th minute. However Bernie Ibini levelled the scores on the 17th to lead the team into half time with a chance of a win. After half time Vasily gave the team a roaring speech about how the Mariners should be winning this contest. From the get go the Mariners dominated the second half and were able to create 2 further goals, however unfortunately for Ibini his dream of getting a hat trick goal during injury time was refused. A win is a win never the less. Unfortunately between matches Nick Montgomery will be out for a minimum of 2 months due to a ligament injury incurred during training.

A-League 31/12/2012
Central Coast Mariners 2 - 0 Perth Glory
Blue Tongue Stadium, Gosford NSW; Att: 14,381
Brent Griffiths (18)
Patrick Zwaanswijk (32)
Justin Pasfield CS

Man of Match: Patrick Zwaanswijk

View attachment 361616View attachment 361617View attachment 361618

Central Coast played well at home, which was a fitting way to see off the year of 2012. However the most unlikely of players scored the goals for the Mariners full backs Brent Griffiths and Patrick Zwaanswijk, which both scored goals outside of the box and simply got their shots past the keeper.

End of the Month and Mid-Season Report
His was a good month for the Mariners, not losing a single match and finishing mid-season second on the ladder. The Mariners have won 4 times and drawing 2, the draw againstarch rivals Newcaste Utd Jets was a real let down for the Mariners after having a bad month in November but after that the team did alright, especially drawing against Wellington away. This was the month that saw key forward Adam Kwasnik gain some form after returning from injury and Bernie Ibini firing shots at goal to keep his place in the first XI. This was a difficult task for Vasily, fortunately for him Kwasnik can play attacking midfielder, therefore Ibini has taken the position of starting striker whilst Kwasnik is now a starting attacking midfielder. Not everything was great for the Mariners, Both Montgomery and McGlinchey were banned for a match due to reaching yellow card limit and earning double yellow card in a match. Also Montgomery got injured in training prior to the match against Sydney FC, which will see him out for 2 months

With the injury to Montgomery Vasily is thinking about whether or not engaging the services of an additional midfielder/attacking midfielder when the transfer window opens between 17/01/2013 and 14/02/2013.

Vasily is trying hard to try and negotiate for Patrick Zwaanswijk to stay in the team however he has indicated that he wants to go home unless he is offered a Marquee contract, which the Mariners cannot afford to give to Patrick considering he is 37 years of age. He has been scouted by Dutch clubs FC Groningen, NEC, VVV and Willem II. Meanwhile Vasily has been successful in re-signing most of the squad

Next Report: Matthias Schmidt and Cardiff

December 2012 Cardiff

View attachment 361732

First match should be easy, as Cardiff are up against 12th place Bristol City. However second game is up against Premier League outfit Everton in the Capital One Cup Quarter Final. Although Everton are currently sliding down the BPL ladder (currently placed 10th), Cardiff will play a rotated squad for the match against Bristol. To date Cardiff are undefeated and are neck and neck with Hull, so far in form Wolves may have a chance at un wrapping that, however Matthias believes December should be an easy month for the Bluebirds.

Was a boring match to start, only 5 shots between both teams by half time. Cardiff did well considering it was mostly a rotated team that played in the match. By the second half though, Bristol City had made many shots. By the end of the match Bristol City made 20 shots to Cardiff’s 9. Cardiff won that match due to their defence and Goal Keeper. Joe Lewis has yet to concede a goal in 1060 minutes. Now with most of the first team rested Cardiff can prepare to face Everton.

Capital One Cup Quarter Final 04/12/2012
Well surprisingly the odds are on Cardiff’s side, with the Bluebirds going in as 6-4 favourites. This would be due to Everton’s poor performances in the Premier League and probably taking into consideration Joe Lewis’s hot form. Moyes was already spotted in the media citing Nicky Maynard as the chief threat in this match. He is right to be concerned as Maynard is fresh and rested as he did not participate in the last match

Wow, although Cardiff had the odds to win the match, considering Everton’s poor form as of late, Matthias did not expect such an easy win. Cardiff got two quick goals before half time and afterwards made plenty of shots on goal but weren’t able to convert any more. After the 55th minutes Matthias decided to play a defensive strategy to ensure Cardiff win the match, which placed a lot of pressure on Everton and stopped them entering the box on a number of occasions. Although Everton had possession of the ball 54% of the time Cardiff created far more opportunities when they had the ball, kicking 17 shots, with 6 of them on target. And for the record, Joe Lewis now has now played 1150 consecutive minutes of football since conceding a goal. Personally this is a record for me.

Well Cardiff were slightly off after their victory against Everton whist 3rd place Brighton tried to do their darndest to not lose after losing to second place Hull last week. The stats show that Cardiff and Brighton were equal in possession, however Cardiff created more opportunities out of their possession kicking 12 shots at goal to Brighton’s 1. It was unfortunate that Cardiff were not able to convert one of those shots into a goal. Joe Lewis has now not conceded a goal in over 1240 minutes of match play.

Cardiff were pretty lucky to win away at Molineux. The Wolves matched the Bluebirds in almost every way, both teams making 12 shots for goal, both looked like they had steady control of the flow of the game. This was truly a spectacle of a match and may be crowned match of the season if nothing else matches it. Although both teams looked to be even Cardiff had possession 57% of the match, which is kind of odd as it felt both teams were level pegging throughout the whole match. Joe Lewis has now attained his 13th consecutive Cleansheet (11th consecutive League CS), clocking up 1330 minutes since the last time he has conceded a goal.

This was quite the ordinary match. Although Cardiff had possession of the ball 56% of the time not many opportunities were made, Cardiff only make 10 shots. Nicky Maynard is back to playing hot football though, kicking 2 goals and missing another 2 times. Unfortunately Vice-Captain Aron Gunnarsson received 2 yellow cards and was sent off 1 minute after kick off in the second half. However the match was fairly even as Leeds also had a play sent off in the second half. Craig Bellamy also received a ligament injury after scoring his goal. It has been predicted that he will be out for about 6 – 8 weeks. Matthias is not looking forward to the next match, having to dig further into the Reserve roster and possibly even a U18 player to fill up the subs. Fortunately for Cardiff, Bolton are not much competition in the Championship.

It has now been 1420 minutes of match time since Joe Lewis has conceded a goal.

This is not one of Cardiff’s best games. Despite the fact that Cardiff won as the news headlines indicate in the South Wales Echo, Cardiff were fortunate to beat Bolton. Bolton had more possession of the ball and made more shots. After half time Cardiff’s players getting tired, therefore Matthias got them to play defensively and made Kim Bo-Kyung play as a Defensive Midfielder.

A good match at home against Middlesbrough. The Boro had possession of the ball 56% of the match, Matthias is starting to see a pattern of Cardiff not retaining possession of the ball as much as their opposition, however due to the defensive class act of Cardiff, the Boro were not able to score another goal, extending Joe Lewis’s time since conceding a goal to 1600 minutes. Nicky Maynard was accurate in front of goal scoring 2 goals and Mark Hudson managed to score a goal off a corner kick.

Cardiff outplayed and outgunned Ipswich. According to Matthias Cardiff had the ball for a sheer majority of the match and created many opportunities with the possession, making 21 shots unlike Ipswich with their dismal 1. Defenders Mark Hudson and Andrew Taylor scored a goal each from corners whilst Peter Whittingham dominated the game with his possession and passing skills, he too managed to bag a goal. Matthias Schmidt was quoted saying the following; “Ipswich were lucky to lose only by 4”. Meanwhile Joe Lewis picked up his 17th consecutive clean sheet, being 1690 minutes since the last time Joe Lewis has conceded a goal.

End of the Month and Mid-Season Report

View attachment 361763

The month ends with still 2 teams remaining undefeated thus far. Championship commentators as well as Cardiff fans are heaping praise on Cardiff but are wondering when Cardiff’s undefeated run will end. Cardiff pass mid-season with 21 wins, 5 draws and 26 games undefeated. They are however 4 points ahead of Hull who have 2 less wins then Cardiff. The month has been great for Cardiff, with the team performing very well in all matches, including in the 0-0 draw against Brighton, although Matthias would’ve rather that Cardiff scored in that game.

One thing Matthias can look back on looking back on the past 26 Championship games and 5 Capital One Cup games is that he was able to rely on rotation squad players when required of, and in fact a special mention goes to Craig Noone who originally played in the reserve squad at the start of the season, who now gets a regular call up to the first team. In saying that Cardiff has faced a lot of injuries especially Joe Mason who has been injured 3 times for a total of 10 weeks. Thankfully reserve lsted Rob Earnshaw and senior player Heidar Helguson have been not only able to fill in the gap but score quite a few more goals, in Earnshaw’s case more goals then Joe Mason himself, the person he is supposed to be acting in place for. With that said Matthias is pondering taking part in the next transfer window which is open between the 1/01/2013 to 31/01/2013. He is also pondering whether or not to sell Joe Mason at the end of the season?

Unfortunately talks fell through when negotiating with Rob Earnshaw and Kevin McNaughton. Although Rob is an old player I myself like his style of play and Matthias likes Rob as a Manager because he feels he is a great rotational substitute and was great for filling the gap when Joe Mason has been injured. Unfortunately Matthias felt he asked for too much and kept pushing for a lower deal eventually Rob's agent stormed out. As for Kevin McNaughton for the Matthias did not have much of a connection, just felt there was a need to keep him in the team as a rotational defender. Unfortunately he asked to be paid $29,000 p/w, something Matthias felt was too much for someone of his age (30) as well as the skills he brings to the team. Matthias is thinking of giving McNaughton a lucrative deal and selling him to an interested party as McNaughton does have a few suitors whom have been scouting him, especially QPR.

Staff Contract Status
There are currently 15 backroom staff members whom have their contracts expire on 30 June 2013, including Matthias’s contract as Manager.

As a note, there are quite a lot of under 18s staff, may seem excessive however Cardiff has a very strong youth academy and training up players from within seems to be a mantra Chairman Ghee brought to the team after buying them out a few years ago. Although it is a lot of staff it seems to be paying off as I have used at least 3 players from the under 18s squad to back fill when rotation players were injured and they did okay and the Cardiff under 18s team is coming second in their group. With that said the limit for coaches has been breached (The game had Cardiff with 7 coaches when the Chair set a limit of 4). Matthias is hoping with good performances and gaining promotion into the Premier League the Chairman may raise the limit, therefore ensuring Cardiff can sign on the under 18 coaches.

Board Confidence Update
The Board are very pleased with Matthias’s overall leadership of Cardiff. It has been underlined by the fans delight at Cardiff’s convincing 3 – 0 Championship victory over Leeds Utd. The club is currently in a financially secure position overall and made a profit of $1,680,000. The board were that happy with Matthias that they decided to give him the option to change his goal objectives. Although the option was tempting to change, Matthias felt that Hull posed a serious threat to Cardiff and wouldn't want to be caught with his proverbial pants down if Hull Wins the Championship.

Cardiff and Hull have been undefeated in December, Cardiff lead Hull by 4 points due to having 2 more wins then Hull. Blackburn are the big jumpers for the month jumping from 12th to 7th on the ladder over the month of December whilst in a reverse of form, the Wolves were the big dipper dropping from 7th to 14th on the ladder.

nPower Football League Championship Player of the Month
In my opinion I am surprised David Nugent did not get a higher avg player rating, getting 6 goals in 7 games is an achievement on it’s own.

1. Joe Lewis (GK) – 8 Cleansheets, 22 saves – avg rating 7.16
Once again Joe Lewis earns Cardiff player of the month award, especially for his performance against Everton, saving 6 shots. He has yet to concede a goal in over 1690 minutes of match play.

So I have a few questions for the readers out there;

1. For those paying attention to the Cardiff story, you would notice that I have two players that are getting injured all the time. Joe Mason (ST) and Kim Bo-Kyung (M RC). These guys were gun players when I played another Cardiff career, prior to starting all over againt for the sake of writing this story. In fact In my previous save Joe Mason scored 26 goals by mid season. This proves that no one game can be the same. But it is kind of frustrating having these gun players who get injured constantly. What do you think I should do with them? Joe Mason the last time I checked was worth $15 M.

2. I thought I spoke too much previously, therefore I thought to add more graphics to the story, by showing you all the news coverage post game and the stats for each game so everyone can see what I am doing. I have also decided to give everyone a close view into my contract dealings. DO you like what I have done with the story thus far? If not what should I do?

Once again thankyou to those who take the time to read this story and sorry I don't update it enough, as said earlier I have been pretty sick lately and I have a feeling I will be busy in the next few days as I took a whole week off work.

FIFA Ballon d’Or
In my opinion this award is either too over rated, or is heavily bias to Messi, because in many save games of mine Lionel Messi wins it, even when he has had an average of 7.01 one year.

Management Carrousel

View attachment 363140

Many more Management sackings occurred across Europe in December, but the biggest shock that has happened is the notification of resignation handed in by Bayern Munchen’s Manager Jupp Heynckes. In other news the Premier League has seen some Management movement after the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas. On Asian news quite a few dismissals have occurred in the K-League however I forgot to record them and the A-League has their first casualty in Frank Farina being sacked from Sydney FC.

Next Report: Vasily Petrovich and Central Coast Mariners

Now just as a notice to my readers, I am yet to advise everyone of the add-ons, graphic mods and etc made to the game. I will acknowledge all work that has contributed to me being a Happy Football Manager.

I will list them when I have the time to, as I have stated earlier in another post I have been sick lately and I also live a very busy family life, so I squeeze FM in when I can, which is most evenings.

However one addition I need to notify the readers of is my alterations to the Serie A. You will notice in the ladder you will not find A.C. Milan and Juventus. Personally I demoted them to the Serie B to see how interesting the Serie A will get without the two major clubs. I have done nothing to the clubs themselves, all I have done is shoved them down into the Serie B to experiment and see Italian Football without it's two biggest thugs. I kind of like the results I see come out of Scotland now that Celtic is the only Big firm team, therefore I decided to do the same to Juventus and A.C just to see how Italian Football will whether it will flourish or not.

Other then that the only alterations made to leagues it the tv money pot for the Championship, I found it quite small in many of my save games, therefore I increased to make sure the teams going to the Premiership have money to be competitive with. With that said I can't remember what the figure I changed it to was and now I am starting to think I may have increased it too much :O.

There are no other alterations made to the leagues, other then the fact that I have unlocked leagues that are normally unplayable, other then that the rest are cosmetic changes such as face packs, logos, stadium packs and etc.

I hope no one is mad at me and will still follow the story
