Everton's first piece of Transfer business comes a week into the window, with two players departing Goodison Park. Goalkeeper Jan Mucha has joined Italian side Brescia for £1.2m after spending most of the time on the bench last season.

34 Year-old centre-back Sylvain Distin has made the switch from Everton to Stoke City for a fee of £800k. The French veteran featured 31 times last season for Everton, notching one goal, but was deemed unnessecary in Billy Ray's plans.

Everton have announced their first two signings of the summer. 26 year old belgian international goalkeeper Logan Bailley signs from German side Borussia Monchengladbach for a shockingly low fee of £525k. With two goalkeepers leaving the club this season, Logan seemed a perfect fit to challenge Tim Howard between the sticks.

The second signing is Colombian international Fredy Guarin, who signs from Porto for £1.4m. The 26 year old was on the transfer list at Porto, and has Champions League experience with Porto, and last season, on loan at Inter Milan.

Everton manager Billy Ray has been shopping in France this week, with announcing two new signings. Right-back Christophe Jallet signs for £1.3m from Paris St Germain, while Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa signs from Montpellier for £5m.

"If we are going to compete in Europe, we need a solid defensive line and we didn't have that in my opinion. We've got Phil & Tony who are both in their 30's, and are not at the fitness levels to play weekly, so when I saw these two fantastic defenders, with European experience, were available, I jumped at the oppurtunity" - Billy Ray

Everton have confirmed the signing of 27 year old Spanish winger Nauzet Aleman from Villarreal for £1.3m. After signing for Villarreal last summer, Nauzet never really broke into the first team and was unfortunately placed on the transfer list. He is a very versatile player who can play on either flank, and will provide great cover on the right wing.

Everton debuted 6 new signings today, and it was two of them that came off the bench to secure the match for Everton in the 72nd minute. Champion's League Qualifer Leg 1
Sporting Lisbon 0-2 Everton
Nikica Jelavic (2)

Nikica Jelavic continues his great scoring run from last season as Everton take one giant leap into the Champions League. Two important away goals either side of half-time will make the return leg very difficult for Lisbon. Both goals came from Everton counter-attacks, the first a header from a James McFadden cross. The second came in the last 10 minutes. Fredy Guarin, with his final touch before being substitued, played a fantastic through ball for Jelavic to slot past the Lisbon keeper.

Another solid performance for Everton as they make it 2 wins in 2. James McFadden gave them the lead with a strong effort on 15minutes. In the second half, debutant Logan Bailley was put to the test, and passed with flying colours as he saved a penalty from Mark Noble. In injury time, it was 2-0 as Maurizio Lauro's header hit James Tomkins before finding the net.
