Tottenham Hotspur - Summary

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, commonly referred to simply as Tottenham or Spurs, is an English football club located in Tottenham, Haringey, London, that competes in the Premier League. The club's home for the 2017–18 season will be Wembley Stadium, as their former home of White Hart Lane has been dismantled to make way for a completely new rebuilt stadium on the same site. Their newly developed training ground is in Bulls Cross on the northern borders of the London Borough of Enfield.

Founded in 1882, Tottenham won the FA Cup for the first time in 1901, making them the only non-League club to do so since the formation of the Football League in 1888.

Tottenham were the first club in the 20th century to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, winning both competitions in the 1960–61 season. After successfully defending the FA Cup in 1962, in 1963 they became the first British club to win a UEFA club competition – the European Cup Winners' Cup.

In 1967, Spurs won the FA Cup for a third time in the 1960s. In the 1970s Tottenham won the League Cup on two occasions and were the inaugural winner of the UEFA Cup in 1972, becoming the first British club to win two different major European trophies.

In the 1980s Spurs won several trophies: the FA Cup twice, FA Community Shield and the UEFA Cup in 1984.

In the 1990s the club won the FA Cup and the League Cup. When they won the League Cup once more in 2008, it meant that they had won a major trophy in each of the last six decades – an achievement only matched by Manchester United.

The club's Latin motto is Audere est Facere (lit: "To Dare Is to Do"), and its emblem is a cockerel standing upon a football. The club has a long-standing rivalry with nearby neighbours Arsenal, with head-to-head fixtures known as the North London derby.

Mauricio Pochettino

On 27 May 2014, Pochettino was appointed head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year contract, becoming their tenth manager over a 12-year span. The following 28 January, the team reached the final of the League Cup following a 3–2 aggregate win over Sheffield United, only to be beaten 2–0 by Chelsea in the decisive game at Wembley Stadium. In the domestic league, his first season was generally successful, ending in a fifth-placed finish and the conversion of several young academy players into regular first team players; he put one of those graduates, Harry Kane, as starting striker at the expense of Spanish international Roberto Soldado, a gamble which paid off as Kane and his teammates Dele Alli and Eric Dier were touted as the potential basis for the England squad at UEFA Euro 2016.

Tottenham were in contention to win the league in 2015–16, but on 2 May 2016 they drew 2–2 against Chelsea, handing the title to Leicester City. The game at Stamford Bridge saw Spurs receive a league record nine yellow cards, and Pochettino entered the pitch in the first half to separate his left back Danny Rose from a confrontation with Willian.
On 12 May 2016, Pochettino agreed to an extension to his contract, committing him to the club until 2021. It was also confirmed that his title had changed from that of "head coach" to "manager", although he confirmed that the role itself was no different.

Key Players

View attachment 80209View attachment 80208

Harry Kane and Dele Alli have fast become the two Tottenham players most likely to create something out of nothing. Kane in particular is relied on more than any other player in the Spurs squad at the moment. Pochettino is rumoured to be looking at a complete striker to ease the growing and rapid pressure growing around Kane. The striker if injured would leave Tottenham with a huge hole in their squad and they would face insurmountable odds of attempting to reach the holy grail, The Premier League Title.

Alli always looks like he can have a world beating game but the young Englishman does have his lacklustre days out in a Tottenham shirt. Alli also has temperament issues where he lets his heart rule his head. Rash challenges, legs stuck out, red mist... Unfortunately Alli has experienced all of these. Luckliy he is an extremely young talent and he still has time to mature...

Tottenham Tactics - Aysemetric 4-2-2-2-1

View attachment 80050

Mauricio Pochettino has chosen to go for an Aysemetric 4-2-2-2-1 system this year. This highlights the positions that Harry Kane and Dele Alli will predominantly play in (Trequartista and Attacking Playmaker respectively). New signing Nico Gaitan will be used on the left hand side as an alternative at LM. Players such as Wanyama and Dier will be utilised in the DM role with Christian Eriksen used at the Roaming playmaker in the middle of the park.

This tactic utilises pace and the wingers can be over or under lapped by the fullbacks. Pochettino who has roughly £65,000,000 will feel there is a gap at the AMR position and he will be consulting with his scouts around players that can potentially be bought for the right price... Daniel Levy will also be heavily involved in these discussions...

Tottenham Players Hierarchy

View attachment 80048

As you can see here is the overall layout of the squad hierarchy... Obviously Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen are the figureheads of the team and the natural leaders to the rest of the Spurs team. The players below are highly influential and have some power when it comes to decisions made by Pochettino and the team.

Below you will see the bulk of the team mainly new signings and younger players although I was surprised to see Danny Rose down here.

New signing Gaitan is in the other players selection but this was taken before he signed for the club...

Tottenham Injuries

View attachment 80047

Spurs do have some longstanding injuries to contend with... The longest of these are Danny Rose and Erik Lamela who should be back around the festive period... New signing Llorente and Son Heung-Min will be back around September time and Moussa Dembele will be back in a few days time.

The club will have to figure out and balance, training with matchdays and player rest to ensure the club have the right recipe when battling with fatigue and tiredness.

Coming Up... Spurs Pre-Season Tour & Transfer Update

Im a Spurs fan through and through, played as them every managerial game i have had since Premier Manager 98, seen all sorts of players and managers, Potch is by far the best in my opinion overtaking Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp and the great Ozzie himself.

Hope you keep this story rolling

Tottenham Travel To Japan For Their Pre-Season Tour

View attachment 79662

Tottenham Hotspur have decided to tour Japan this year, a decision which will mostly have been motivated by the financial benefits of visiting a country where the club do not have a huge following and are relatively un-established. Pochettino has remained focused from a footballing perspective however and will be hoping that his squad can prevail over the Urawa Reds, Yokohama FC, Gamba Osaka and Antlers FC. Spurs should have enough talent and ability to sail past these teams and anything other than a win will disappoint Pochettino.

WIth the Lillywhites travelling over to Asia for this tour they will be welcomed back to Britain by Lazio and Celtic who will visit Spurs at Wembley for the clubs final two pre-season matches. Pochettino was adamant he wanted some higher calibre opposition to test his team before the start of the Premier League.

Key Players - Pre-Season

View attachment 79659View attachment 79658
Harry Kane --------------------------------------- Moussa Dembele

Harry Kane scored two fantastic goals against Yokohama FC and was Player Of The Match for that game. He was fantastic throughout Pre-Season and showed why his credentials ensure Pochettino will always put him down as the first man on his team sheet.

Moussa Dembele who is in actual fact Transfer Listed at this moment in time also performed extremely well. His performances against Lazio and Celtic might have just saved his Tottenham Hotspur career. His mazy running on the right wing was too much... especially for the Italian team who allowed Dembele to cut inside and score two goals against them.

The Premier League Campaign Gets Underway

View attachment 79653

It's THAT day! The day football fans crave the most throughout the footballing calendar. The summer hiatus which seems never ending is over... It's the opening day of the Premier League season!! The hustle and bustle in and around match day cities is rife once again. The pub landlords licking their lips knowing that their usual trade will be boosted with the die hard fans rushing in to grab the best seat in the establishment to watch the televised game! The turnstiles clicking at the stadiums at the supporters funnel into their teams ground...

The working weekenders have their radio's on listening intently to the channel covering their teams match. Coffee in hand and trying desperately to look busy in case their boss catches them in a footballing daze.

The home bound fans switching their TV's on to catch up with the Sky Sports panellists and follow their teams every kick, pass and corner are relishing an afternoon on the sofa relaxing.

Jeff Stelling and the gang guide the fans watching the show through what is occurring in each of the Saturday and Sunday games! As one of the panellists shrieks 'GOAL' fans wait holding baited breath that it's their team who have scored and not conceded. We punch the air if the decision goes our way but contemplate punching the coffee table if it's bad news.

It's all part and parcel of being a Football fan... We suffer, we celebrate we watch behind closed hands as our star player steps up to take a penalty! Sheer adulation if the net bustles... sheer disappointment if we see the ball sail wide of the post.

So this season like all the others is a season of dreams, hopes and fortunes waiting to come true or be crushed! So strap yourselves in and hold onto your hats as the 2017/18 Season gets underway!

MATCHDAY 1

Not the blistering start to the season we were hoping for! Burnley took the lead through a Sam Vokes curler from inside the area just after half time which quietened the Spurs fans at Turf Moor. 15 minutes later Harry Kane got the Spurs fans back onto their feet and singing again with a powerful shot which crept into Tom Heatons goal.

Dele Alli scored a 20 yarder to appease the Tottenham fans who were slightly bemused by the way their team had been playing. Their spirits were lifted once again however when Alli gave Tottenham the lead. It wasn't to be a Spurs win though and power house Jonathan Walters levelled up the match again 5 minutes later with a good solo piece of play where he found himself in space and able to roll the ball past Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.
