Round 4 comes up on us very fast, price you pay for going to a replay. It's a balmy 2 degrees C in Birkenhead, and Villa is just coming off a victory against City. No sweat!

The players look nervous.

25th minute, free kick to Tranmere in a dangerous area. Da Silva plays it short to Torrano
View attachment 326320

Torrano plays a nice pass into the middle, for Ake right in front of keeper. He makes no mistake.
View attachment 326319

1:0 to Tranmere!

That looks great for a club thats only been in the championship 1 season, will get a huge boost if/when you get promoted this season,

37th minute, and Villa is so worried about Kent in front of goal that they have 6 players marking him, or so it seems in this shot! Kent has the vision to pick out Torrano unmarked on the right.
View attachment 326318

Cissokho runs out to tackle, but Torrano beats him one to one and makes his way toward goal
View attachment 326317

He draws in another Villa defender, and passes back towards a now freer box - 4 Rovers to 5 Villans
View attachment 326314

Kent collects on the near post, but its crowded. He gets off a shot but hits the post.
View attachment 326313

Galloway sitting back a couple of metres cleans up. 2:0 to Tranmere!
View attachment 326312

And that's half time.

View attachment 326311

Torrano has had a hand in both goals, but only gets one assist and 6.9 rating. On to the next half!

51st minute, van der Wiel goes in hard on Teixeira. He's off!

View attachment 326309

i bring on Towell, who was tired after the WBA match. Mezzetti did ok, but nothing special. Skokic also comes on for an exhausted Barbosa, who was very solid. I'm switching to a counter strategy to hold this lead.

83 minutes, and Billing needs to come on for a tired Da Silva. All subs done but we are in front with less than 10 minutes remaining.

The counter strategy did it, we held them without problem for the last half hour to close out the game at 2:0.

Ake is player of the match. Statistics were very balanced but Villa had no clear chances.

On to the fifth round! Another great run, very happy with that.

I doubt it, there are still some great teams in the running.
View attachment 326287

Half EPL half championship teams left now. We might get a few more wins in... who knows?!
There are certainly some beatable options there - but Man U, Southampton, Man City

You werent ment to win it the first season though!
Anything is possible in the fa cup,

What is your average attendance now? Stadium capacity?

Tranmere: profile January 2017

Tranmere is a team with a growing reputation. 3 stars out of 5, with a professional squad personality.
View attachment 326143

Financially, they are stable, with an estimated value of 25 million pounds and 4209 season ticket holders
View attachment 326142

We have no legends, but three icons - including Ryan Kent, a loan player from our fierce rivals Liverpool! The fans love him.
View attachment 326141

Our favoured personnel:
View attachment 326140

I offloaded Rowe in the last offseason, Rimmer is retired, and Galloway is another loan, this one from our other local rivals Everton.

Prenton Park has been upgraded significantly over the last three years, but is still a long way from top flight standards
View attachment 326139

It has a 16200 capacity... which is among the smallest in the Championship. Our average attendance is in the bottom three of the comp
View attachment 326138

We're only 5th by % of capacity at 83%. I guess the Merseyside fans are still flocking to Goodison and Anfield each week.
View attachment 326138

I'm in two minds as to whether to request an expansion yet, since we're not filling up very often even for big games.

Well i think you're doing a great job!
I wouldnt bother with requesting a new stadiun/increase size is your not anywere near selling out your games, the board may consider it themselves once youve been promoted anyway,
If you dont get a bigger ground straight away you will most likely have to keep a tight rain on the wages or all your hard work to keep a tight ship could come undone, espec if you were to come straight down.
Your wage bill is crazy! And to think your challenging for the title and in later stages of fa is unreal, your doing a great job

"OK I want to see some set piece drills now. Marco, I want a series of free kicks from 45m out, across the park. Janoi, Pierce and Donervon, I want you to practice both the defending and attacking target man roles. Bring over some reserves if you need bodies for the wall. I want to see you making space and practising your movement - and hitting the back of the net. And keep trying the short diversion, we need some variety to our set pieces."

I watch the squad get moving. They've made some progress on their set pieces this week.

I see a familiar figure running across to join the squad. Great! "Hey, come over here!" I yell. Dave looks up from his notepad. "Hmm? Oh look who it is! Excellent. What do you think boss, will he be ready for Brighton tomorrow?"

Stockton jogs across, grins ear to ear.
View attachment 326129

"Told you I'd be right quicker than you think boss" he says, dancing around us on his newly healed ankle. "I feel great, a bit rusty from sitting around for a month but put me in the game tomorrow, please - nothing like game time to build fitness."

I look over Gregg's notes. Our head physio may have an obscure reputation, but he knows his physiotherapy! "Gregg says you're ready for training, but you will need to build up to a game. I'll put you in the squad but I'm only going to bring you on in the last 30, and only then if you're looking sharp. We have a reserves match against Coventry the day after tomorrow so I'll give you a proper stretch there. Don't want to rush things, ankles can be tricky and repeat offenders. Let's take it easy, ok? I need you to be ready for the Cup game next month."

Stockton nods his assent, and moves back to join the team. They greet him warmly, and we're all smiles. Morale still looking great. I think it may be time for another team meeting... maybe after Brighton.

Coppell and I watch the 5th round FA Cup draw live.

First game:
View attachment 326124
I fancy Liverpool for that one, they are leading the Premier League, and Sturridge and Balotelli are on fire. At Anfield, they should be too much for Stoke who is struggling in the Championship, or Bournemouth who are doing decently after promotion to the EPL this year, but should not be a match for the Reds.

Second game:
View attachment 326123

Reading are relegation threatened in the EPL, while Chelsea is coming third. Chelsea won their last matchup 2:1. Reading have a chance but a slim one.

Third game:
Oh Tranmere is at home... against fellow Champ team Sunderland.
View attachment 326122

We've played twice this season, beating them 2-0 and 4-1. A favourable draw for us. Sunderland are in 5th in the Championship though so should not be underestimated, they certainly have the talent to push us.

4th game:
View attachment 326120

Palace should be too strong for Bolton, both Championship teams though.

5th game:
View attachment 326119

Wolves are the underdog story this year, they knocked out EPL team Swansea last round. Will be interested in the outcome of this game.

6th game:
View attachment 326117

City should prevail here.

7th game:
View attachment 326116

Should be an easy round for United.

Last one:
View attachment 326114

Forest are favourites in this bracket.

The games are in 2 weeks. Time for Stockton to get back to fighting fitness, and work on our attacking movement that I'm still not satisfied with. Steve gives a thumbs up sign, he's confident. He also has a soft spot for United as a former player, and for Reading as their manager for many years (as he reminds us regularly!). He'll be barracking for Reading over Chelsea anyway, and for a Man U or Reading v Tranmere dream final. Dream on Steve, dream on! We might get there, but I'm not holding my breath for Reading!

Steve and I have arranged a sit down to go through the January transfer movements.

"OK. You know we had no cash at all for transfers, but we've managed to get one player on a free, and some decent loans in. A few of our fringe players have left to ply their trade in the lower divisions.

The most promising signing is Elvir Maloku from Hajduk Split. His agent said he'd be value, and we managed to get him at a decent salary and with a very low signon. He's only backup material right now, but Phil says he could be as good as Ryan Kent in the future - worth the gamble. He's still not the speedster you want in that wide position but he can play a few roles, and he's at least a decent backup on the left.

View attachment 326105

You also asked me to grab some backup strikers just in case. We had a good look at a whole range of French youngsters last month and have picked up one of the promising players on loan. You also indicated that one of the kids scouted from Spain is worth a chance. Neither of these were players you want to sign long term, but they are interesting prospects.

Matias from Levante would be a good false nine at the moment. We should give him some game time during less important matches.
View attachment 326104

Yassine Benoist needs a haircut but you can't tell teenagers anything! He's more of a target man and could be a good alternative. I'd suggest giving him a run in the 18s first. Both these lads have been told they are on a rotation so we should give them some game time, but they arent expecting to start for us.

View attachment 326103

Leaving the club we have Kirby, our backup backup AMRL, and Ridehalgh our "hadnt played for ages" reserve left fullback going to MK Dons, Thomas Eisfeld has gone back to Germany to Aue on a loan, and we've farmed off a couple of players that didnt have work permits to our new feeder club in Croatia. Although apparently that was a mistake - turns out Croatia is an 8 year wait for citizenship. We all thought it was two... maybe we should have checked more carefully huh. We're stuck with them now for the next 10 months..."

"Well, that is a blow. Oh well, maybe the children of those kids we just farmed out will become great Croatian citizens and want to play for Tranmere, because they will be too old to be of any use if we let them wait until they get citizenship!"

"Yep. And since the window just closed we cant even recall them. You really messed that up mate. Lucky they werent the most promising prospects we have in the first place."

11 Feb 2017: FA Cup round 5 match day.
It's 2:30pm and the fans are buzzing. Kickoff in 30 minutes, time to start making sure the team is ready for this game.

View attachment 326093

A calm day suits our passing style, should be good for us. We have a 2-0 win record against Sunderland, but won't be taking anything for granted here.

The lineups:
View attachment 326094
Jack Rodwell is the star of the Sunderland team, 9 years in premier league teams and he's still only 25. Sunderland picked him up after a short stint at Man City. He's a real threat from the midfield, we'll be looking to Billing to shut him down. Scots veteran Stephen Fletcher is their main strike force, but he is out of form so we will hope to keep him quiet. Sebastian Larsson on the right wing back is playing quite well at the moment too.

In the games already played today I notice Chelsea and Reading have played out a 0:0 draw. Steve will be happy!

I've brought Cotterill in for Teixeira, I want his extra pace out wide and have moved Kent over to the left. No other surprises.

It is going to be an attacking game, the first 10 mins have featured three free kicks from just outside the area, each culminating in a shot wide of the goal.

9 mins
After some sweet midfield triangular passing, Kent plays the ball out wide to meet Barbosa's overlapping run

View attachment 326090

Barbosa spies an opportunity and hits it first touch back into the box, where Tranmere has a 4-3 advantage thanks to our attack minded midfield

View attachment 326088

Towell launches himself at the ball, collecting it, Galloway and a defender - and slotting the ball perfectly into the net. 1-0 Tranmere!
