Trying To Win (with) The Pools - A Hartlepool United Story

James is progressing nicely.... Will you be looking to get Campbell full time? Well done so far.

Yeah I will try but probably a loan deal will be more realistic again.

what leagues do u play with?

all divisions in england are playable while the top division in france, germany, holland, italy, portugal, scotland and spain are view only

FEBRUARY

MK Dons 3 (Roberts 31, Potter 44, Williams 79)
Hartlepool United 4 (Jerome 1, 29, 51, Omozusi 35)

Not a bad debut from Cameron Jerome!!!!! I cancelled Philip Roberts loan earlier in the season and he came back to score against us here.

--

Johnstone's Paint Trophy North Final 1st Leg
Notts County 2 (Labadie 48, Dumbuya 74)
Hartlepool United 2 (Sandaza 33, 83)

They had a goal disallowed in the first half. Not a bad result.

--

Hartlepool United 2 (Fahey 41, Miller 76pen)

Yeovil Town 0

--

Johnstone's Paint Trophy North Final 2nd Leg

Hartlepool United 6 (Whelan 20, 36, 83, Clarke 45, Suarez 59, Leonardo 88)
Notts County 1 (Clough 61)
(Hartlepool United win 8-3 on aggregate)

WOW!!! That is one way to march into the final - Whelan also had a goal disallowed early on.

--

Hartlepool United 2 (Suarez 86, Fahey 90)
Swindon Town 1 (Henderson 63)

A great fightback here.

SUMMARY

A fantastic month in both cup and league. Goals galore as my backup players Whelan, Jerome and Sandaza came in and made a great impact with Denis Suarez pulling the creative strings.

I cancelled the loan of Leonardo as he got injured and is out for 2 months but I finally managed to sign the Macedonian AMC I have been chasing for a while and he will come in for next season.

(hopefully soon going to be the clubs 2ND most famous boss)

MARCH

Crawley Town 2 (Connolly 20, Proctor 52)

Hartlepool United 1 (James 72)

Meh - we had won our last 6 league games so I suppose I can accept this defeat.

--

Bristol City 4 (Velikonja 44, 81, Etherington 71, Taylor 78)

Hartlepool United 1 (Whelan 74)

Bristol City lost Albrighton and Jerome and replaced them with Ryan Taylor and Matthew Etherington!!! We were awful here.

--

Hartlepool United 4 (Whelan 26, 32, Hetherington 29, Jerome 90)

Scunthorpe United 0

Back to winning ways and in some style!! This secures a play-off spot.

--

Hartlepool United 3 (Suarez 16, Whelan 61, Omozusi 70)
Southend United 1 (Phillips 18)

--

Crewe Alexandra 1 (Naylor 44)

Hartlepool United 1 (Suarez 45)

A point is a point closer to the Championship lol - they missed a late penalty.

--

Leyton Orient 1 (Murphy 42pen)
Hartlepool United 0

Veteran Danny Murphy sunk us here. We are stumbling towards the finishing line here.

SUMMARY

A horrible month. It is just as well my home form is so strong as we are really struggling away from home now. With 5 games left we have a 10pt lead over Peterborough and a 12pt lead over Brentford so surely we wont bottle it.

The youth intake was ok but nobody who would jump into the first team.

Lets hope when I post my next update we will have done the league and cup double lol

APRIL

Hartlepool United 2 (Omozusi 61, Jerome 82)

Port Vale 1 (Baseya 33pen)

A nervy win this. They had a goal disallowed that would have put them 2-1 up minutes before we struck the winner.

--

Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final

MK Dons 1 (Cobb 39)
Hartlepool United 2 (Campbell 6, Suarez 105)
AET

We made hard work of this as they had a man sent-off after 20min but I am pleased that we have won the trophy. It took 3 penalty shoot-outs along the way so we didnt do it the easy way.

--

Hartlepool United 1 (Campbell 88)
Portsmouth 0

This win not only secures promotion but also the League 1 title. Luke James missed a penalty but Campbell struck late on. Whelan got injured and will be out for 3-4 months.

--

Doncaster Rovers 1 (Barnard 68)

Hartlepool United 1 (Campbell 84)

--

Gillingham 3 (Drennan 60, Akinfenwa 70, 83)
Hartlepool United 1 (Poole 39)

I dont know what happened in the 2nd half here. Never mind.

--

Hartlepool United 1 (Jerome 87)
Rotherham United 1 (Hector 53pen)

Cameron Jerome's late goal preserves our unbeaten home record in the league.

SUMMARY

So the season is wrapped up with us winning two more trophies. The league was never in doubt and was more of a crawl over the finishing line rather than a sprint. We also made a tough job of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final but we got the win that matters in the end.

End of season post to follow.

END OF SEASON POST

2 seasons down and 3 trophies won which obviously see's us move into the Championship in straight seasons. I kinda thought we would finish top 10 but although my squad was small it was full of quality for this level.

However we will struggle so badly in the Championship if things dont change. I cant offer more than £3K a week for a player which is my main hurdling block. I will have to use the loan market to the best of my ability also methinks.

CLUB NEWS

I finally manage to broaden our scouting range
While an extra 3,607 seats get added we will play at Darlington....
...which led to our planned youth facilities being scrapped!!!!!

--

OTHER NEWS

Man City win the Premiership
Juventus win the Champions League
Newcastle remain in the Championship
Wolves get 2nd successive promotion to the Premiership!!!!

--

LOOKING TOWARDS NEXT SEASON

Honestly? I think we will struggle. I am not so worried about the transfer budget but I need my wage budget increased hugely. James, Holden, Schwartz and Flinders should have no problems in the Championship but the rest I am doubtful.

I always had the club in the black but with the cost of the redevelopment of the stadium we are currently nearly £500,000 in the red so that doesnt bode well for my budget.

And after 2 league campaigns unbeaten at home we wont even be able to play back at Victoria Park again until January!!!!

images

PRE-SEASON

Oh dear oh dear oh dear this is not looking good! I had a few transfer targets and got none of them in. Even Adam Campbell rejected us to join Millwall on loan! I have signed a few players but its safe to say a promotion challenge isnt going to materialise.

By the way I got a budget of £0 lol

--

PLAYERS IN

Firstly to the pre-arranged deals. I had agreed to sign Mario Djurovski on a free and then 2 young players to come in, Billy Brady (£140K) and Jon Kaleab Tesfaye (£60K). I am sorely tempted to play Tesfaye as a starter.
View attachment 378275View attachment 378276View attachment 378277

So that was when life was good and I had money to spend. I brought in Jesse Lingard on loan from Man Utd while Masoud, Philippe Fardeau, Mustapha Jarju and Sam Hutchinson came in on a free.
View attachment 378278View attachment 378279View attachment 378280View attachment 378281View attachment 378282

And this guy came in for the youth team on a free.
View attachment 378283

PLAYERS OUT

Quite embarrasing really. I transfer listed Hurst, Sandaza, Omozusi and Poole and didnt receive any bids. I only managed to sell Amenku for £75K!!!! Oh and Niall Redmond went to Lincoln City on loan.

--

SUMMARY

Hmmm. As I post this I am about to play the first game of the season at home to Watford and I havent even decided on my first team yet. The back 5 will stay the same but after that who knows?? James as a ST or RW. Masoud or Jarju AMC or even Jarju as ST?

--

OTHER NEWS

I replaced Arsenal as my parent club with Man Utd - they pay £20K more.

--

Right I have to think about which 3 players to sign on loan and will start off my turn with the PTP save.

Please let me know what you think about my squad. What are my realistic expectations????

Survival should be easy. Mid table.

Mid table I think, unless the Klippybo magic strikes and then it will be promotion ;-)

Stupid forums not telling me of the updates. Missed the season, will look at it.

But I saw the end...

HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!!! I can't believe it. Promotion as champions! Did you take FM to a date with diamond USB ports for San Valentin? lol.

Now I can't say anything is impossible for a team you manage.

You'll win the Championship and the Champions League in two seasons.

I think you'll be able to finish mid table and maybe make a late push towards the playoffs depending on who you can get in on loan.

Methinks that is a tad unrealistic. I kinda hoped to have at least half a dozen premiership players in my squad but have maybe 3 at a push. If I didnt have to restructure my ground I would have been fine but hey-ho, I will glory on.

Hoping for a mid-table finish anyway.

And if I get a half decent budget for next season aim for top 6.

AUGUST

Hartlepool United 3 (Jarju 19, 77, Whelan 81)
Watford 1 (Athanasiadis 48)

1. Watford have a player valued at over £11m (Faraoni)
2. They were in the Premiership last season
3. WE WERE BRILLIANT!!!!!

--

Capital One Cup 1st Round

Burton Albion 0
Hartlepool United 3 (James 19, 53, Sandaza 58)

Nice and easy. Sandaza is transfer listed but came off the bench to score anyway.

--

Blackburn Rovers 2 (Bothroyd 5, Rhodes 45)
Hartlepool United 3 (Masoud 16, 57, 58)

WOW!!! We only had 3 shots on target and each one went in - including Masoud's 2nd from 45 yards!!!!!

--

Hartlepool United 2 (Lingard 50, Gillet og54)
Millwall 1 (Campbell 4)

Adam Campbell chose to join Millwall rather than return to us and he scored an early opener here but we fought back once again to get the points.

--

Hartlepool United 2 (James 2, Whelan 66)
Bradford City 0

This Championship malarky is easy lol. Man of the match was Neil Austin whom I sold after 1 game for us lol

--

Capital One Cup 2nd Round

Cardiff City 6 (Ralls 18, Cornelius 31, 40, 41, 74, Palacios 118)
Hartlepool United 5 (Jarju 35, 76, James 39, 81, Masoud 87)
AET

CRAZY!!!!!!

--

Ipswich Town 0
Hartlepool United 5 (Baldwin 33, Djurovski 49, 82, Whelan 76, Jarju 89)

WHAT THE F*CK IS HAPPENING?????

We had some players unfit playing, some backups and we go out and win 5-0 away from home!!!!

One of my favourite results in FM13 for me - no doubt!!!

SUMMARY

Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to start like this. I kinda expected wins over Bradford and Millwall and maybe sneak a point against Watford and Ipswich but to win 5 out of 5 is amazing.

I am not going to get carried away though as we have played 5 of the bottom 6 teams!!!!

As for the Capital One Cup, 1 good win and 1 good defeat in that crazy 11 goal thriller against Cardiff. We will get past the 2nd round sometime!!!

I managed to dip into the transfer market again. On deadline day I brought in Kevin Thomson on a free transfer and he will compete for a spot in the centre of midfield.

KRIS STUART APPOINTED UKRAINE MANAGER!!!!!

This came as a bit of a shock. The managerial positions at Ukraine, Paraguay and Australia were available all summer so during the middle of August I put in applications for all 3 and got offered all 3!!!

I chose the Ukraine as I prefer to manage in Europe and they have some great talent. The fact they are in an easy group makes life easier too!!

If only this could happen in real life eh?

Love this story!!!

It's Pools!!!! and brilliantly written.

Please continue this mate!

SEPTEMBER

Sheffield Wednesday 3 (Maguire 10, Novak 17, Corry 44)
Hartlepool United 2 (Lingard 73, Jarju 75)

We were awful in the first half and that cost us. Thomson and Masoud were both taken off injured too.

--

Hartlepool United 1 (James 42)
West Bromwich Albion 0

Another fantastic victory and a battling performance.

--

Nottingham Forest 1 (Simpson 3)

Hartlepool United 0

Forest were 3rd bottom going into this so maybe this was an opportunity missed.

--

Hartlepool United 2 (Omozusi 14, Jarju 44)
Huddersfield Town 1 (Scannell 28)

I suppose if we win all our home games and lose all our away ones we might finish in the play-offs - I would accept that!!!

Fardeau got injured and is out for 3-4 months.

--

Derby County 3 (Perica 7, Russell 11, Rosenior 62)
Hartlepool United 1 (Clarke 59)

Thomson got stretchered off on his debut and sent-off in his 2nd game here.

--

Hartlepool United 2 (Jarju 42, 48)
Bournemouth 1 (Grabban 74)

I had a touchline ban for this game but I wasnt missed obviously!

--

Middlesbrough 2 (Rooney 12, 36)

Hartlepool United 1 (Jarju 46)

Rooney missed a penalty for his hat-trick here as Jordan Clarke got injured and is out for 3-4 months.

SUMMARY

Methinks this month will be the norm for us. Our home form is, as usual excellent, but away from home we are really struggling.

What is really difficult is trying to field a regular side. I am having so many injuries and with games coming thick and fast I am continually having to chop and change players or playing them when they arent fit enough.

Cant complain too much though, after all we are 2nd!!!
