The Championship Awaits?

Swindon's heart break of last season in the play-off semi-final v Millwall is all forgotten now and all attention turns towards this year. 1 game left for Swindon first off though, Brentford away.

League 1
Brentford 0 - 2 Swindon
(Nieto 25, Cuthbert 75)
The result looks good for Swindon fans. Even better if you were there because Jonothan Douglas was amazingly sent off after 21 seconds and will miss the play-off semi-finals and final should Swindon get there. As for the rest of the match Nieto and Cuthbert were on target and Swindon will now play ... Huddersfield in the play-off Semi's.

Play-Off Semi-Final 1st Leg
Huddersfield 0 - 0 Swindon
(No Scorers)
This result means all Swindon have to do is win infront of their home fans to play either Cardiff or Colchester in the final. The match was poor, Swindon set up to defend after what happend last season. They did have 3/4 good chances to score but couldnt benefit.

Play-Off Semi-Final 2nd Leg
Swindon 2 ( 5-3 ) 2 Huddersfield
(Nieto 27, Austin 105+1)
What a match. A real close battle. Nieto scored to put Swindon 1-0 up. Kerrea Gilbert then missed a penalty on 53 minutes and a nightmare shortly after as Huddersfield leveled to send the game into extra time. And Huddersfield scored first in extra time on 91 minutes. De Ja Vu the Swindon fans thought but no, Charlie Austin in stoppage time of the first half of extra time scores. 2-2 and all to play for, Metaj injured on 117 (4weeks) the game ran out, its penalties. Skarz missed for Huddersfield and with Nieto, Drinkwater, Austin, Cuthbert and Kupisz all scoring. THE PLAY-OFF FINAL AWAITS vCARDIFF.

Play-Off Final
Cardiff 2 - 5 Swindon
(O'Brien 8, Nieto 29, Austin 72, Castaignos 87 90+2)
What a match to send SWINDON INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Cardiff went 1-0 after 40 seconds but then the rampage from Swindon, Goals from O'Brien, Nieto and Austin before Cardiff made it 3-2 but then Luc Castaignos who has been dissapointing all season scored on 87 and stoppage time. ''WE ARE GOING UP, WE ARE GOING UP''

If you have Scotland loaded try going for Andy Little from Rangers. Works well as a deep lying forward / poacher. Stats are brilliant but he scores for fun in League 1 and scores plenty in The Championship !

Only England loaded from League 2 and upwards mate. I've got a large database on though so ill try and find him. Cheers for the reccomendation anyway. And for the good-luck quote which i havnt highlighted.

Good Luck in playoff final

Thanks Wee-Lee, Like the picture aswell lol.

Player Review 2010/11

The Transfers
Federico Nieto arrived first at Swindon this season and what a signing he was. 28 goals and he just loves big games. I nearly sold him for £700k in January because Scunthorpe and Hull were sniffing round him but im so glad i kept him on. 8.55 average rating in the final 5 games including the play-offs.

Alan Sheehan was next after a succesful loan season in the first season. He has been worth £35m not just the £35k paid. He barely missed a game and was very solid.

Tomasz Kupisz joined again on loan after 6 months on loan in the first season. He stayed all season this time and made big impacts when used.

Luc Castaignos was brought in and i was delighted when i got him some what of a coup but dissapointed with him all year, mostly used as a sub. Came up big in the play-off final so well worth bringing him in for year.

Tomasz Cywka was my most expensive signing at a massive £65k. 11 goals, countless assists and a joy to own. Hard working used a box to box. Didnt score from inside the box i recall.

Danny Drinkwater from Man Utd on loan was another worth while deal. I brought him in really just as cover because i knew injuries would occur so a season loan would mean he would get a fair few games.

Dean Bouzanis i never played but hes a back-up goalkeeper and 1 for the future. Potential to make a profit so i snapped him up.

Freddie Sears had a fantastic first season but the 3 months he was here he was poor. Didnt extend the loan but glad he got 1 goal.

Gavin Hoyte was in and out. Scott Cuthbert started the year and after i changed my corner routine he started really shining when he came up and at the back. Dominant in the air. As for Gavin, right-back or centre he gave it 110% which was why i extended to EOS.

Shkodran Metaj was transfer listed and became the most expensive signing after Cywka at £120,000. Worth every penny, got a goal and will definately play him more in the Championship.

Javier Martina could have recked my season when he demanded to be centre of attention but i kept him on a leash and now is starting to look like a good player. Not the best but i love him!

Congratulations on promotion dude ;)
Hope Nieto bangs them in for you in the championship.

Up the Robins!!!

Pre-Season 2011/12
Championship Preparation
After Promotion, Swindon will need to buy and prepare for the new season. Saunt has 2 transfer targets for the new campaign. Hartlepool's James Brown and Crystal Palace's Darren Ambrose but he looks unlikely to get his wish. £210k transfer kitty but Brown has sealed a move QPR for £575k and Saunt cant negoiate a price for Ambrose. Saunt isnt looking to sell any of his players because he believes there good enough to compete a division higher.

v Exeter (Away)
A good performance but not the result to match. A 1-1 is a nice result to shake of the rust of the summer.

v GH Academy (Home)
A thumping 9-1 victory. An improvement on last season's friendly result and with Hunt getting a hat-trick infront of home fans he must be becoming a fan favourite.

v Arsenal (Home)
Arsenal shown their class over Swindon with 5 goals but Swindon did manage to get 1 goal. Noel Hunt yet again.

v Brighton (Away)
A bore draw but a draw none the less. Much like Exeter they created chances but couldnt put many of their chances away.

v Tottenham (Home)
Saunt is a Tottenham fan so split loyalties on this one. He'll be happy with the effort shown by his players. They lead from the 10th minute until 22 when Defoe scored 1 of his 2 goals, Peter Crouch with the other.

The Championship Adventure Awaits
Pre-Season didnt go very well with only 1 win all be it a good one. Pre-Season is only a warm up though and Championship season is where it really starts. London Road the first destination for Swindon.

Swindon make a winning start to the Championship with a fantastic 3-1 victory over Peterborough. Swindon went 2-0 up with goals from Hunt and Nieto after 7 minutes. Metaj got sent off on 29 and Swindon started to wobble, It was 2-1 after 53 but Charlie Austin made sure of the win coming off the bench to score on 85.
Suspension - Metaj (3 games)

League Cup 1st Round
Swindon 2 - 1 Yeovil

Bouzanis was handed a debut for the League Cup 1st Round and after a 1-1 v Wrexham for Yeovil they looked up against it until the 2nd minute when Sheehan was giving his marching orders for violent behaviour. And on 25 when Sam Williams put Yeovil infront. But Swindon have made comebacks far to often in the past couple of seasons and they did again through JP McGovern and Nieto.
Suspension - Sheehan (3 games)

A sell out crowd watched a narrow 1-0 defeat for Swindon. Newcastle havnt made the best of starts to the season with a 1-1 Watford draw and a narrow 1-0 against Carlisle in the cup but they got the win today. It was close and could have pulled level but a string of injuries rocked Swindon.

Cuthbert's threat from corners is Swindon's best way of getting chances this campaign and its working. He nodded in to send Premier League side Leicester City sprawling out of the League Cup before getting sent off on 77 minutes. Swindon march on to play Fulham.

Good start, Fluke?
Swindon fans are very happy at the moment. Many thinking this must be a fluke. Its been a comfortable start to Championship life for Swindon, the question is was it a fluke or beginers luck for August.

What a win for Swindon. Cuthbert and O'Brien are now fit and Javier Martina was until he picked up another injury today and will miss 4 weeks. The game was a good one, Scott Cuthbert with a first half header. Swindon are becoming set piece specialists and with Cuthbert's aerial ability they pose a real threat.

Swindon didnt really look like winning this one after concededing early but after that all changed when Austin found the net from a route 1 ball from Lucas. Fulham shortly regained their lead after Gilbert conceded a penalty kick. Gilbert then from kick went on a wonder foward, recieved the ball and drilled past Schwarzer to beat him at his near post from fully 25 yards on an angle. Bobbing Along Singing A Song
Another steady month for Swindon, unbeaten in the league in fact. Signs that maybe, just maybe. Swindon can compete in this division. A 2 year build from Saunt in League 1 seems to have done the trick. Some very good signings in Pearce and Hunt. Diop and Majewski have settled in quickly has Swindon fans singing loud and proud.

Saunt named an unchanged team from the side that lost a 2-0 lead against Watford last match. They dropped the lead again after Nieto's first half goal. Tyrone Mears creaping in from right wing got the equaliser on the hour. Joey Gudjohnsson got sent off on 77 but Swindon couldnt muster up a winner.

Swindon started slowly conceding a Quinn free-kick on 5 minutes but after that they got going but couldnt find the net coming up to half time. Danny Gabbidon got his marching order in stoppage time at the end of the first 45 minutes so it was game on in the second half. 2-0 on 52 minutes, game over Swindon as United saw it out.

A point earned rather than 2 points dropped for the Robins. Coeff and Helan still on U20 World Cup duty and O'Brien in light training, other than that its now a fully fit squad for Saunt to choose from but then reality of the football league kicked in, 69 minutes and Gilbert picks up an injury, thankfully it doesnt look to bad.

Southern then netted an OG and Swindon in cruise control until half time. Bottom placed Blackpool came out in the second half with a purpose and got 1 back on 67 but Swindon held on. December 2011
The Ending of a Year, The Begining of a Memory

Its been a special 2011 for Swindon Town. This time last year they were 7th in League 1 still ruing their missed chances the season before in the Play-Off Semi-Finals v Millwall. From there though they mounted a charge for the Play-Offs once again, come through a tense penalty shoot out against Huddersfield and then thumped Cardiff to reach the Championship. Just 1 level away from the promise land. What will 2012 have in old?

Championship
Wigan 1 - 1 Swindon
(Martina 78)
View attachment 85434
It was Tomasz Cywka v Tomasz Kupisz in the pre-match build up for obvious reasons, a real battle among friends. The game really started in the second half, Cuthbert hit the post on the 61st minute before Wigan opend the scoring on 65 from Victor Moses. Javier Martina didnt let the lead last long when he scored his first goal for Swindon on 78. A share of the spoils for each side. Sheehan injured for 10 days, Diop picked up his 5th yellow and will miss the next match.

It was a Castaignos re-union today. It was Wednesday who showed Swindon how to play. The Robins really missed Papa Bouba Diop today. Kezman (3weeks) Gilbert (7 Days) and O'Brien all picked up injuries. Shortly after the defeat Swindon boss released a statement rejecting interest in the Plymouth vacancy.

Championship
Swindon 1 - 0 Reading
(Majewski 45+1)
A drab first half came to an end with Majewski opening the scoring to send the Swindon fans into raptures. Cuthbert hit the bar just after half time but then a returning Diop picked up a second yellow and will miss the Derby match next week. Reading had Dani Situ sent off in the second half also as the came to an end with narrow victory for Robins.

This was very much demolition Derby today. All except the score line. A fabulous Dean Bouzanis made a string of fantastic saves but couldnt save a shot from Miles Addison from just outside the box. Kezman was named back fit today so obviously it was going to be a low scoring game. The game was abit of a none event, Gerken was equal to rare Swindon efforts. Cuthbert picked up a 2 week injury. Austin and Kezman have both gone 9 hours without scoring. Kezman still yet to score his first goal.

Mateja Kezman scored his first Swindon goal after some dreadful finishing so far this season. Unfortnately it was too late after goals on 31 and 71 from Peterborough. Martina (2 weeks) and Hunt (7 weeks) are now both out.

FA Cup 3rd Round
Leeds 3 - 2 Swindon
(Kisnorbo(OG) 11, Cywka 36)
View attachment 85439
As Swindon went up a division in the summer, Leeds came down. Leeds currently top in League 1 made a flying start on 3 minutes until Kisnorbo gifted Swindon an equaliser with an OG. Leeds re-took the lead on 26 but that only lasted 10 minutes when Cywka scored the pick of the goals with an outside of the boot 35 yard screamer. Leeds re-took the lead again on 41 to an an emphatic first half. The second half was dissapointing only injury filled for Swindon. Kezman (4 weeks) and Gilbert (3 Weeks) add to Swindons injury list.

Some peoples burden, Some peoples heavan
Were talking the January Transfer Window
If you have players with high interest the January window is a real burden but if your trying to re-build or add to your squad then January is very benefitial. There is a few bargains availible on the transfer list which include most of Newcastle's squad but still a few players who dont have clubs. Also some players contracts are ending at the end of the season so clubs will be looking to snap them up early.

Swindon get back to winning ways against Southampton. Saints took the lead after 12 minutes but then Swindon romped to victory from Pearce who scored his first goal. Coeff scored a couple of screamers from 25 yards. And Austin completed the scoring. Pearce will miss 1 match after picking up his 5th yellow card. Nieto could have got on the scoresheet but missed on 56.

will be following. Try and get De Laet on loan he is class for League One. I got him for my Forest side.

what a great story so far mate great layout and a great read
you have avoided relegation now try and get into play-offs

I took that shower of sh*te to Premier League in three years time in that game, also losing the playoff final to Burnley the year before.

I was a bit more aggressive on the financial front, playing many friendlies in Australia/New Zealand and also hiring free transfers with wage total being around 100 k/week for the entire squad in CH. The last season before going up was frankly very exhausting but we made it so I'm happy. Now in the Prem I've signed Babel, Kanouté Traoré, Brown, Abidal, Márquez, Misun and Hunt on frees or very cheap.

Riesgo

Coleman Márquez Cathcart Abidal

Brown Renan Randall Traoré

Babel Griffiths
