Swindon Town FC

Saunt takes charge at Swindon
Former Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson has had his contract terminated with immediate effect by chairman Andrew Fitton. Rookie manager Chris Saunt has been appointed the new boss. Unproven and inexperienced, the appointment has shocked the fans with some slating chairman Andrew Fitton calling him an idiot. Saunt definately needs to hit the ground running.

Transfers In/Out
Dorian Dervite from Tottenham - EOS loan
Freddie Sears from West Ham - EOS loan
John Bostock from Tottenham - 3 month loan
Stephan Darby from Liverpool - 3 month loan
Tom Cairney from Hull - 3 month loan
Carl Young from Unat. - Scout

Phil Smith to Exeter - £9k
Michael Timlin to Exeter - £50k
Lloyd Macklin to Nottm Forest - £100k

Pre-Season gets underway
Excitement grows around the County Ground as the pre-season fixtures are announced. Home clashes against Blackpool and Sunderland will no doubt be entertaining matches. Swindon also play partner clubs, Swindon Super Marine, Cirenchester, Hungerford and Chippenham. Pre-Season kicks off though against Rotherham United.

v Rotherham (Away)
The first game of pre-season for the Robins wasnt a good start. A 2-1 loss against a team a league below suggests it was always Rotherham's day but after Swindon keeper Phil Smith went off injured and no players to call upon in goal, Simon Ferry went in goal and scored an own goal in the 93rd minute after spilling a looping cross.

v Swindon S (Away)
Professional performance from the Robins against a small local club. Goals from 2 new signings Dervite and Sears earn the Robins a 2-0 win.

v Cirenchester (Away)
Freddie Sears is proving his worth with 2 more strikes in todays match. All be it against alot smaller teams.

v Blackpool (Home)
Forgetting the first half an hour of this game and Swindon were much the better side but having to comeback from 2-0 down was always going to be a tough task. Billy Paynter finished off an excellent John Bostock through ball. All hopes of a draw were abolished when Blackpool scored with 10 minutes left.

v Hungerford (Away)
Swindon are finding the net on a more regular basic now with Sears and Austin bagging a brace in a 4-0 win.

v Sunderland (Home)
A massive effort from the Robins which will delight the fans. Saunt's side could have been 2 or 3 up by half time but Marton Fulop wasnt going to be beaten. An unlucky result of 1-0 against this quality is really promising.

v Chippenham (Away)
John Bostock, Dorian Dervite and Scott Cuthbert all bagged goals in a 3-1 thumping of Chippenham. In truth it should have been more but a win none the less.

Great OP mate, will be keeping an eye on this story

August 2009
A New Season Begins

After a delightfully informative pre-season campaign probably the most pleasing aspect about Chris Saunt's side was the never say die attitude against the tougher opponents. Saunt seems to have made a wealth of fantastic loan signings which will benefit the club over the coming months.

Team Preview for 2009/10
GK - David Lucas - Strong in pre-season. Best goalkeeper at the club.
DR - Stephan Darby - A short term move but if he impresses at Swindons problem right back area you can see him staying longer if possible.
DL - Alan Sheehan - Already on loan at the club before Saunt arrived but undoubtly a very strong left back at this level.
DC - Dorian Dervite - Dominant in the air, can score goals, great speed and communication.
DC - Gordon Greer - The perfect match up for Dorian, What Dervite lacks in experience is made up with Greers leadership.
MR - John Paul McGovern - A Pacey right winger who can achieve anything at this level.
ML - Alan O'Brien - In wide areas should JPMcG get injured or O'Brien you can see Swindon struggling but when fit will cause havoc for defences.
MC - Jonothan Douglas - An excellent professional, club captain. Jono will be a key player this season.
MC - John Bostock - A creative flair player with a powerful shot not to mention killer vision.
ST - Vincent Pericard - A classic target man, can score goals and hold up play.
ST - Freddie Sears - A real talent, he will grab this opportunity of first team football with both hands.
The Rest - Swindon's best covered area is undoubtably in striking options, Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter wont just be back up players with the talent they have. Tom Cairney is a short term transfer in this season but will get game time in such a small squad. The Robins also have strong cover at center back with highly rated youngsters Scott Cuthbert and Sean Morrison really hoping for a chance to show the new boss what they have in their locker.

Key - WIN, DRAW, LOSS.
League 1
Gillingham 2 - 1 Swindon
Sears
Not quite a nightmare start. Gillingham were strong in attack and just edged the encounter but a debut goal for Freddie Sears. Many positives to take from the game. Had John Bostock scored his penalty on the 27th minute to put the Robins infront it could have been different but still 45 games to go.

League Cup 1st Round
Southampton 1 - 3 Swindon
Pericard, Sears, Douglas
Despite Southampton's 10 point deduction and a draw on the opening day the Saints are probably one of the strongest squad in League 1 but no match for Swindon. 2-0 before half time and if Southampton didnt score late on to prevent a nervy last 10 minutes it would have been comfortable for Swindon. Jonothan Douglas made sure of the win with a last minute thumpter from the edge of the area.

League 1
Swindon 3 - 1 MK Dons
Bostock, Sears, Austin
The first home match at the County Ground of the season proved to be a entertaining 3-1 win for Swindon. Goals from Bostock and Sears on 23 and 28 minutes sent the Robins in a the break happy. The same against the Saints happend against though when they got themselves back into the game but stand up Charlie Austin who did what Douglas did just 3 days before. Back to back wins now for Town.

League 1
Swindon 2 - 0 Southampton
Sears 2
So it wasnt just a fluke in the League Cup. Swindon batter the Saints against with on form Freddie Sears bagging both goals. An early contender for the golden boot in League 1. On this evidence a good bet.

League 1
Oldham 2 - 2 Swindon
Austin, Paynter
Swindon fought back from 2 goals down in this one. Saunt made 2 substitutions and got himself back on level terms with a magnificent second half.

League Cup 2nd Round
Swindon 1 - 3 Portsmouth
Sears
Portsmouth might well be scrapping for every penny and every point in the Premier League but Swindon found out just how much they need to improve if their to get to Championship next season, Portsmouth might well be joining them if things dont change.

League 1
Swindon 3 - 2 Southend
Sears, McGovern, Sheehan
Swindon are showing real determination this season. After the Oldham fightback they came back twice from a goal down to eventually got 3-2 up with a fantastic Alan Sheehan free-kick. Swindon lie 5th in League 1 after a brilliant start to the season.

September 2009
Never mind Batman, Were the ROBINS!

August went swimmingly well for Saunt. Wins a plenty and and only the 1 league loss. The only thing to improve on was the League Cup and even that went quite well with a smashing against Southampton. September promised much and this is what happend.

League 1
Swindon 0 - 0 Colchester
A classic stale mate, not alot of chances and 2 on form keepers. Ben Williams in the Colchester goal has now not conceded in 347 minutes. Vincent Pericard had to go off with an injury and its thought he'll now miss around 7 weeks.

League 1
Yeovil 1 - 5 Swindon
Marshall, Paynter, O'Brien, Austin 2
Yeovill drew their first game in League 1 but since then its gone down hill with 5 straight defeats. True to form Swindon smashed in 5 goals to leave Yeovil 23rd in the league and with work to do.

League 1
Walsall 1 - 3 Swindon
Bostock, Dervite, Austin
Walsall dominated the first half and probably would have gone to win it but for a John Bostock penalty on the brink of half time. After that Swindon game out in the second half flying with Dervite nodding in a corner on 55 and Charlie Austin on 76. A great result coming from a goal down once again.

League 1
Swindon 2 - 1 Wycombe
O'Brien 2
Freddie Sears is going to miss an important period for Swindon because of international duty with the England U20s but Swindon rallied along in his absence with Alan O'Brien bagging 2 goals coming in late at the far post from Mark Marshall crosses.

League 1
Exeter 1 - 3 Swindon
Marshall, Sheehan, Austin
5th placed Exeter went down to the hands of Swindon after another fine Robins performance. The pick of the goals came from an Alan Sheehan free-kick to send them top of League 1.

Robins stay on top

September ended very well for Swindon. Freddie Sears is still with the England U20s and another International break is coming up but in League 1 there is no rest bite.

League 1
Brentford 1 - 0 Swindon
A dull game ended a miserable away day for Robin fans. But not without a dramatic late serge that could have seen Swindon equalise in the 92nd minute. 2 shots cannoned off the bar from John Bostock and Charlie Austin.

Johnstone Paint Trophy South 2nd Round
Swindon 3 - 0 Brighton
Paynter, McGovern, Greer
Swindon breezed to victory in this JPT match. 3 goals and a clean sheet will delight boss Chris Saunt. Swindon through with much to spare.

League 1
Swindon 1 - 1 Millwall
Greer
The international break really hit Swindon hard, 5 U18s had to be called up as Antel, Jean-Francois, Dervite, Morrison, Bostock and Sears were all on international duty. Jesionkowski, Kennedy, Hartmann, O'Brien and Pericard were all out injured. As for the game it was a predictably poor game which ended with Gordon Greer earning the Robins a point.

League 1
Swindon 1 - 0 Hartlepool
McGovern
John Bostock's contract ends after this game because of the league rules on short term loans. He tried his best to score a goal to bow out but it was McGovern who turned out to be the match winner.

League 1
Norwich 2 - 1 Swindon
Paynter
Freddie Sears returned back to Swindon for this game. He didnt really get into the game as a strong Norwich side please their home fans to a narrow victory in the end.

League 1
Tranmere 1 - 1 Swindon
Sears
Sears will be hoping to build on todays goal in the coming weeks and months. Stephan Darby and Tom Cairney have now both returned to their clubs after their loans finish so Freddie is flying the flag for the Robins. Still top of League 1. An improvement needed in November though.

Transfers In/Out
Gareth Williams from Unat. - Free
Dave Parnaby from Middlesbrough - £150k (Assistant Manager)

John Bostock to Tottenham - Loan ends
Stephan Darby to Liverpool - Loan ends
Tom Cairney to Hull - Loan ends

Gotta Love A Cup Tie

Time for a early re-build after the short term loans all ended at the end of October. Chris Saunt will have to get busy though as the free/loan transfer deadline arrives in mid November. Cup ties will be the main fixture of this month with the FA Cup and Johnstone Paint Trophy coming around again.

FA Cup 1st Round
York 1 - 1 Swindon
Austin
A shock looked on the cards as York played out of their skins in the first half to go in 1-0 at the interval. Saunt needed a responce and Charlie Austin delivered in the 67th minute but the Robins couldnt push on for the win so it will go for a replay at the County Ground.

Johnstone Paint Trophy South Quarter-Final
Swindon 0 - 2 Colchester
The Robins went out of the JPT with a wimper today. They just didnt show up and conceded 2 really soft goals.

FA Cup 1st Round Replay
Swindon 6 - 1 York
Morrison, Sears 3, Austin, Douglas
Swindon breeze into the 2nd round of the FA Cup after a nervy first half going in just 1-0 up. The quality shone through in the second half with Freddie Sears banging in a 7 minute hat-trick before Austin and Douglas rounded off a great day for Swindon. Stevenage up next.

Transfers In
Tomasz Cywka from Wigan - 2 month loan
Tomasz Kupisz from Wigan - 2 month loan

League 1
Carlisle 1 - 1 Swindon
Sears
Carlisle dominated this game. Jono Douglas got sent off early in the second half and then Freddie Sears scored a superb individual goal running from the half way line. Swindon couldnt hold though and Carlisle equalised late on. Wigan duo Cywka and Kupisz got debuts and both started the game and looked really promising.

League 1
Swindon 1 - 1 Huddersfield
Sears
Much the same as the last game for Swindon. Sears bagged a counter attack goal and it was time to hold on. 3 minutes were indicated but in the 95th minute, Rhodes rescued Huddersfield. 2 more points dropped for Swindon.

FA Cup 2nd Round
Swindon 4 - 0 Stevenage
Dervite, Bodin, Austin 2
Another fantastic FA Cup tie for Swindon. Youngster Billy Bodin got his first goal for the club after some impressive performances in the league. Charlie Austin showed his clinical edge.

December 2009
Its means 1 thing, Fixture congestion and injuries!

So after a kind of successful time in November what does Decemeber have in hold for the mighty Swindon Town Football Club. 7 League 1 games are on the calender in just 4 weeks.

League 1
Stockport 2 - 0 Swindon
The Robins were completely overawed against Stockport. An early Stockport goal put Swindon on the back foot and they just could not muster up any clear cut chances to get themselves back into the game.

League 1
Swindon 1 - 0 Leyton Orient
Douglas
A perfect responce for boss Chris Saunt. A 54th minute Jonothan Douglas penalty was enough to see off the on form O's. Next up Bristol Rovers.

League 1
Bristol Rovers 0 - 1 Swindon
McGovern
Another narrow win for Swindon but it insures back to back wins with league leaders Leeds next match. John Paul McGovern scored just after half time which left a nervous end to the game for Town.

League 1
Swindon 0 - 0 Leeds
View attachment 82194
A heroic performance from Swindon but they just could find the net. 5 real clear cut chances not put away. Charlie Austin on another day could have had a hat full but it just wasnt to be. A very valuable point but no points gained on top spot.

League 1
Swindon 3 - 1 Brighton
Sears, Austin, Greer
Under pressure manager Gus Poyet for Brighton isnt having a good time at the moment and Swindon made it worse with a 3-1 win at the County Ground.

League 1
Charlton 1 - 1 Swindon
McGovern
Swindon probably should have seen this one out but a late equaliser gave each side a share of spoils. Charlton are way down in everyones predictions lying in 16th place.

League 1
Swindon 2 - 0 Yeovil
Sears, Kupisz
A perfect way to end a busy month. 2-0 with goals from loanees Sears and Kupisz. Swindon are still where they were at the begining of the month (5th) which keeps them up their for the play-offs.

A New Year, A Fresh Look?

The transfer window has now re-opened for business. Cash strapped Swindon only have £50,000 to spend to Saunt decided against making any signings and just extended the loans of Cykwa and Kupisz for 1 month.

FA Cup 3rd Round
Sheff Utd 3 - 0 Swindon
Outclassed and out played as expected from Swindon. They did create a few half chances late on but couldnt find the net. Sheff Utd showed the level of intensity needed to compete in the Championship.

League 1
Swindon 3 - 3 Oldham
Bodin, Austin 2
Swindon's spirit is what impresses most people about them and once again the fightback was on. From 2-0 down to 2-1 before conceding a third it never looked like the Robins would give up on this match and they didnt. 3-3 the final score, Charlie Austin the hero.

League 1
MK Dons 3 - 4 Swindon
Paynter, Pericard 2, Austin
Stadium MK were extremely entertained but dissapointed. Swindon went 1 up before MK drew level. Swindon then squandered a lead again to make it 2-2 before MK went infront for the first time in the match. Down the dumps? Not Swindon who conjured up a thrilling end drawing level through Pericard on 85 and Charlie Austin the hero again scoring the winner in the 90th minute. Pericard went 16 hours before scoring a brace today, lets hope he can keep it up.

League 1
Swindon 1 - 1 Gillingham
Pericard
Another fine comeback from a goal down. It took them till the 85th minute to find the net for another unpredictable end. It seems the only way to beat Swindon is too completely outplay them and thats not an easy task.

League 1
Southampton 1 - 2 Swindon
Pericard, Austin
3 wins out of 3 against Southampton now for Swindon. A fine achievement for Chris Saunt's side as Southampton creap up into the playoff places with them to a vital 6 pointer won for the Robins. Pericard and Austin on form.

League 1
Southend 2 - 1 Swindon
Paynter
For a change it was careless Swindon rather than spirited. It was Billy Paynter who gave S.T.F.C the lead on 10 minutes only to shoot themselves in the foot when Douglas got sent off on 57. Southend equalised soon after and late into the last 10 minutes McGovern gave away a penalty which was converted to send the Robins home dissapointed but not without incident as McGovern then got sent off in stoppage time. A 10 game unbeaten streak in League 1 comes to an end for Swindon and they drop 2 places this month.

AUTHOR NOTES

THE GOOD - Interest has been high in me as a manager. Ive had to release statements rejecting interest in the Portsmouth and Brighton jobs with also speculation with Blackpool and 4 other clubs. Im a big fan of loyalty and as im having a good season so far it wouldnt seem right.

THE BAD - An apology for followers which is i havnt been informing you about the amount of injuries. Mainly because ive had far too many which dont come in matches so i forget to jot it down on my pad. Ill try to keep you up-to-date from now on. December was an absolute nightmare and im only just getting back to normal now starting Febuary.

As i have not mentioned a few of the players at all i thought id post up a mid-season look the hole of my squad. Reserves and U18s included.
Thanks for following lads, hope your enjoying it...I am :D

A Sort After Manager!
A really good push now for promotion now for Swindon will see them almost definates for the play-offs at the end of the season. Automatic promotion is still a distinct possibility with Leeds and Norwich not too far ahead.
League 1
Swindon 4 - 0 Charlton
Cywka 2, Kupisz, Austin
As Carlisle and Leyton join the speculation list in the papers to be after Chris Saunt as their new manager, Saunt says nothing and does his talking on the pitch. And what a performance it was. Wigan loanee duo Cywka and Kupisz both got themselves on the scoresheet as Swindon hit 4 past Charlton on a day where 1st 2nd and 3rd all draw. Not all good news though as Easton is carried off for Town.

League 1
Huddersfield 2 - 0 Swindon
2 press statements in a week released by Saunt responding to availible manager vacancies and speculation about 3 more clubs who havnt yet shown their manager the door. He insists he belongs here and with Pericard and McGovern back you would think that Swindon would come out on top. But not so as the Robins slump to a 2-0 defeat at a soggy Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield left it last though scoring in the 89th and 94th minute. Amankwaah joins the injury list for 4 weeks.

League 1
Swindon 2 - 1 Carlisle
Austin, McGovern
Douglas is back for Robins after being suspended but he couldnt prevent Carlisle scoring on 19 minutes. Freddie Sears was injured and went off at half time with Austin coming on. Austin equalised on 72 minutes but then he went off injured in the second minute of stoppage time but it wasnt over as McGovern hit a dramatic 94th minute winner. What a comeback for Swindon. Its thought Sears is going to miss the next 4 weeks.

League 1
Swindon 1 - 0 Stockport
Paynter
Austin and Sears missed this due to injury but Paynter came in and earned his side a valuble 3 points. Douglas and Pericard went off injured with Douglas out for 2 months and Pericard out for 1 month. Problem after problem for Saunt as Carlisle renew speculation about his future and now a striker shortage with Pericard, Sears and Austin all out.

League 1
Leyton Orient 3 - 2 Swindon
Austin 2
All the talk in the papers before the game was about Saunt yet again as the Orient managers future is uncertain. As for the match it was a cracker. Charlie Austin was passed fit and scored in the 2nd minute. The O's equalised soon after not for Austin to double his and the Robins tally on 33. From their though it was downhill as O's leveled and grabbed the lead barely within 10 minutes of each other. Austin could have grabbed a hat-trick and his 50th career goal but the linesmen ruled it out. Swindon in 5th.
