Player Review 2009/10
The Squad
GK - David Lucas - What a keeper this guy is. When Jesionkowski had to go in goal in April it was so pivital to the promotion push.
DR - Scott Cuthbert - A solid center back and accomplished at right-back. A brilliant player but still a problem area, Loanee Darby started off here until the loan ran out then Cuthbert as in and out with Kevin Amankwaah.
DL - Alan Sheehan - A free-kick specialist and solid defensively but intelligent when he goes foward. Saunt has stated that he would like to make his move permanent after such a successful year.
DC - Dorian Dervite - One of the most consistent central defender in the team this year. He developed a fantastic understand very quickly with Greer which really worked well for Swindon.
DC - Gordon Greer - Another top performer. Saunt kept the same back 5 of Lucas + DR, Dervite, Greer and Sheehan all season and it showed game after game that they were confident playing with each other.
MR - John-Paul McGovern - Has and will reak havoc forever more should he continue to play like he has this season. 7 goals and even more assists.
ML - Alan O'Brien - A J.P.McG with a left foot. Really dangerous wingers for Swindon was certainly a big factor in Sears and Austin getting 45 goals between them this year.
MC - Jonothan Douglas - As well as the winger, Douglas has been a indispensible player for the Robins. Club captain and solid performer. Breaks up play and keeps it simple so the more attack minded players can roam free.
MC - Tomasz Cywka - Another problem area occupied by loan signings most of the season with Kupisz, Cairney and Bostock all playing a big part in this role this season.
ST - Freddie Sears - A joy when fit and available. He could have played alot more if the U20 World Cup didnt play a factor in his season and constant injury problems. Never the less, 20 goals is a great return.
ST - Charlie Austin - Has forced his way into the starting 11 week in week out. 25 quality goals and a real fox in the box. A good old fashioned finisher. A striker with such poaching talent will surely attract interest from a few bigger fish in the football pond.
The Rest -
Strikers Paynter and Pericard have been superb this season not in goals but hold up play and creating for others. 10 goals was their target and they didnt come far off.
Billy Bodin is attracting interest from Coventry after his debut season. He only really got his chance through an injury crisis but he gave it everything he had. Potential profit to be made from him. Gareth Williams was an emergency purchase during the crisis as well but turned himself into a challenger for Douglas' balling winning role. Mostly a sub but a pro in every sense of the word.
Manu Frimpong and Craig Easton made decent impacts when called upon in midfield as did Sean Morrison and Jean-Francois in defence.
